Faye's scar is a rare form of injury called a Schrödinger mark. At any given time, it may exist, may not, and once every hundred or so years it forms an Elder Sign with the light of the aligned planets to drive Cthulhu and his spawn back into their corpse-city.

AsinineAxioms:
Note how it is shaped when it does exist. Aside from occasionally forming an Elder Sign every few centuries, it also functions as the summons for the holders of the Useless Brooms Made Entirely Of Dicks, like how the bat-shaped spotlight is the summons for Batman.
