Dead Space 2: That Thing Was Pissed

<< < (3/9) > >>

Blue Kitty:
My friend is saying it is an improvement upon the original. I feel like I should get the first Dead Space now that it's only $20. Plus you get the plasma cutter from the first game if you have any data from it.

Ikrik:
Don't pick up the original Dead Space.  You really, really don't need it.  If you want to know the story they have provided a movie that recaps the events of the first game.  The first game is totally unnecessary now because Dead Space 2 is an incredibly refined experience of the first one with a story that isn't that bad, especially in comparison to the first.

Also, The Mineral Cutter and the Plasma Cutter are essentially the same weapon, I really didn't notice any difference between them.

How was Dragon Age's marketing awful?  I remember the trailers being kind of bad but what else did they do?

Alex C:
The trailers made it look like they were releasing a fairly ugly action game instead of an RPG. The constant and repetitive use of the blood motif gave the whole thing a bit of a "300" or God of War vibe that the game didn't really have an interest in living up to. Flagrant and irresponsible use of Marilyn Manson.

KvP:
Beyond the NEW SHIT ads, the general emphasis on gore was overblown. IIRC it was explicitly stated that the marketing was designed to cater to Call of Duty players (as they constituted the average gamer, supposedly) and I can't imagine many CoD players getting the game they were promised.

*e - yeah Alex pretty much nailed it

Anyway OT the mineral and plasma cutters are exactly the same, it's just an aesthetic difference.

Yeah, that's the bit that galled me, hands down. Goremongers and CoD players are people too, dammit, and the advertising hit me as a bit of unseemly misdirection. I understand it's a business but it was still disconcerting to browse the bioware site and forums and compare/contrast the product they were apparently producing with the one that was being marketed.

Trailers like this made me think of 300, a movie about kicking brown people off of ledges and screaming. Dragon Age wasn't really like that.
