jd's avatar makes me kind of uncomfortable
Lummer:
I have had my me-as-trve-kvlt-blakk-metal avatar since day One here. Am I boring?
pwhodges:
On the matter of large animated avis, it's worth noting that on a lot of pages of this forum more bandwidth (and time) is used downloading the avis than the real content of the page (there are a couple of 2MB avis out there)! If would be a friendly gesture if people with gifs that have not been sized down to 100x100 for avi use do that (as JD has already done). A very straightforward free program to do this for animated gifs is here; selecting "good quality" actually makes a smaller file generally.
The Seldom Killer:
Bandwidth preservation is the main reason I keep avatars turned off although I've now turned them back on to see what all the fuss is about. Drill King's is giving me epilepsy but nothing else here seems that outrageous (I haven't clicked on the link from Mr. Hodges).
Still, in the esprit d' corps, I've put up my favourite avatar, which is blatantly stolen from someone else on another forum.
Edited to add: And I'm out. Avatar overload has broken my will.
jhocking:
Sorry if it will confuse anyone but I am likely to change my avatar soon. I have no idea what to, I don't think that far in advance.

it was hard to give up but i've had my current one fairly consistently for over three years now and i think i'm gonna keep it for a while longer because stability is nice and i like to think of it as now being a sort of extension of my own personality and presence here. that and i just think it's really great and i haven't found a better one since.

The coffee shop down the street from me has the original art from that strip hanging up. I think of you when I go there now.
Edit: the hammer and screwdriver one, not tank girl
