EVA GREEN GETS NEKKID

No but seriously, this is a pretty excellent show, and all I've seen are the two halves of the pilot.

Am I the only one who thinks that Eva Green is kinda scary looking?

ANYWAY, I've only seen the first half of the pilot.  And it definitely wasn't as bad as it could've been, but it wasn't terribly good either.  Mostly just boring, despite all the attractive naked people and swords and whatnot.  And some of the casting seems way off.  For example, bald angry Merlin.  And Arthur, who I just wanted to punch in the face.

I might keep watching for a few more episodes at least, because Spartacus started out even worse than Camelot is so far and grew to be pretty fucking awesome towards the end of the season.

I kind of think it's nice, actually. The casting is weird, but I think Eva Green makes one of the best Morgans I've seen depicted on film, at least thus far. The scenes are gorgeous, and I love the costumes. I also kind of like the little attempts at historical accuracy, like the giant bread trenchers in the first shot, how no one is wearing different clothes every other scene, and how life is pretty simple and kind of sucky but it is just the way it is so it isn't exactly emphasized? I also found it a bit weird that they made Morgan Uther's daughter instead of Ygraine's, and that SPOILER Lot dies in the pilot ? but I mean, Sir Tomas Malory wasn't exactly basing his writings on historical fact, so it is really always left up to interpretation, and while some people do a better job than others (cough Marion Zimmer Bradley cough Mary Stewart cough), I can work with it.

Also Guinevere has excellent tits, so.

Man, seeing the commercials at AV Club, all I could hope was for some Eva Green tits because otherwise I was not interested.

I mean, sure, you can find her tits on the internet pretty easy already but, you know...more is better.

I think she's in the middle of sex. Also, she's about to grope herself. I think that face is a sex face.

But also she's pretty angry. It's an angry sex scene.

This show is pretty mediocre but it's mediocre with occasional fantastic nudity so I'm not too proud to admit that's gonna keep me watching for a while.

So after watching episode three, it's painfully obvious that when people aren't getting their clothes off this show is boring as batshit. Joseph Fiennes has copped a bit of flak for chewing too much scenery, but I think he's the only person in the cast with the right idea: the only thing that can save this show is to take it all the way over the top. They need to get rid of any notion of subtlety at all. Their plot is muddy, their scripts are embarassing, their lead actor is dull and startlingly uncharasmatic - if this show's going to fail it needs to crash off the side of a cliff in a fireball with flames roaring out of the exhaust pipe, not putter to a stop on the side of the road.

Not really sure I can endorse this viewpoint.  There are plenty of good tv shows to watch, and also plenty of good porn/erotica.  Why would I want to watch a mediocre mashup of the two?

I mean, I watch plenty of shows, some of them are great and some of them are pretty average. All of them are pretty entertaining? This is pretty mediocre, but it's entertaining and I don't mind watching stuff that's pretty mindless.

Excalibur is definitely my favourite King Arthur film.  It is really pretty great.

*SPOILERS*

Actually, it's funny you should think they are ripping off Excalibur, when they have significantly changed the story with that whole Morgan being Uther's daughter thing, or the Morgan impersonating people especially Igraine thing, or the Guinivere not being married to Arthur thing. I have watched "Excalibur" a number of times over the years - most recently last weekend - and while Helen Mirren makes a decent Morgan, the pacing has always been off for me. Lines are delivered just a little too quickly and abruptly (especially Nicol Williamson), there isn't much explanation for anything that happens (like why Arthur suddenly feels like he needs to seek the grail, or why Morgana thinks that an inbred son will help her get... anything), and Nigel Terry makes the dopiest Arthur outside of a cartoon that I can remember, complete with weird slightly Welsh sounding accent that never gets any less strange to listen to. Most everyone seems to overact just a little, except when it comes to things like how Morgan doesn't really seem that bitter about Uther and Igraine and she is taking revenge because she guesses she ought to, and it's jarring.

Patrick Stewart is nice, though.

Yep. Also, I think it's gotten better, but that may just be me. I also liked "Kings", and I thought "30 Rock" and "Arrested Development" were retarded, so what do I know?
