Much as I dislike praising the Walt Disney corporation, I would never really accept the notion of a big-budget Hollywood version of the Three Musketeers without Tim Curry chewing his way through like six miles of scenery.

Here's an idea. Charlie Sheen played Aramis in that adaptation. They should bring him back this time as Richelieu. Just put him in a red dress and install a little gimmick to constantly pump cocaine up his nose and roll cameras.

The Three Musketeers is one of my favorite books of all time. I've seen more or less every film adaptation there is and they all more or less suck. After seeing this absurd looking trailer, I'm sure this one won't break the trend. It really is a shame. Guess I'll have to break out one of my copies and reread the book instead (which isn't to say I won't see the movie, I probably will just to be on the safe side)

Dumas always wanted there to be Final Fantasy-style airships, but publishing technology wouldn't let him. This is the way it was supposed to be.

So basically this is like Sherlock Holmes, but with swords.

Rome is the only thing I enjoy of Ray Stevenson. This doesn't look that great by any means, I just hope he doesn't come off as another dryballs background character that he's repeatedly cast as.

This looks worse than Dogtanian and the Three Muskahounds.

Whilst a degree of buckling of swash in absolutely needed in any treatment of this tale, it doesn't stack up as the sole device of the film. What it really needs is some proper gritty characterisation, which was at least nodded at in the Disney job. Another case where the budget has probably wrecked the film before it's started.

Aranofsky or Burton to direct, Rickman or bring back Curry for Richelieu and if you absolutely must go down the route of sourcing the Musketeers from the ranks of the eye-candy, at least go with McAvoy and his peers on the grounds that they have talent and range. Mind you, I'm wondering of Nick Frost would make a good Porthos.

Win!  disney did that version alright - it was fun were it needed to be, serious at other times and how can you go wrong by telling Mr. Curry to go "just a little over the top"?

I liked the Disney version, and wow, I'd forgotten that Charlie Sheen used to be an actor.  He was actually really good in that one, as were Kiefer, Oliver, and the rest.

But Tommy is correct.  The Richard Lester Three Musketeers is the best.

I didn't know about the trilogy. Will look up. But I liked the Disney one just because it was fun and humorous. Also it had Tim Curry.

I may see this just to see Milla fight in that dress.
