Ask yourself
why exactly you ascribed the "Now I can get fat" thought to the woman,
as I am sure the creator of the captioned image intended, and why both of you thought it was funny. What sort of assumptions about women's body-image, goals, and general place in society, are involved in that kind of humour? In my original comment, I flipped the assumptions around to draw attention to them, in a light-hearted way, and to the low-level misogynism involved in the joke. So no, I didn't need to be told that that I'd
got it all wrong, and that
really the caption was supposed to apply to the
woman. I got that, really I did, right from the beginning.
That was the whole point. I apologise for my sarcasm, which was perhaps sharper than necessary, but did you think I was too
