Well, metric is the standard here. Never see anything measured in pounds or ounces.
That's because there are
laws requiring the use of metric units in many situations. People have been
taken to court for selling in pounds and ounces in contravention of the law. However, beer and cider
must be sold in multiples or submultiples of a pint (UK pint = 20oz, not the skimpy 16oz US one), even though all other alcoholic drinks are sold in metric units! Also milk
in returnable bottles must be in pint-based units.
Things are sold in sizes which correspond to old units because (a) people are conservative, (b) machinery is kept in use, or (b) lots of people are still using old cook-books!
