There are amazing details in that Eva picture, if you go looking.

Also, although Shinji looks too old and tough at first, if you cover up the scarred side of his face, the other side looks right again (within the aesthetic of the picture as a whole).

For the record, a short hair cut in general, or buzz cut in particular is best for any form of individual who works in close proximity to machinery or might be involved in physical conflict of any kind. Getting your hair pulled in a fight's no fun, getting scalped because you caught your pony tail in a lathe is REALLY not fun.

eh combat boots have been worn by rebels and the like in society too. I find your blanket statement as false. Discipline and uniformity in the extreme seems more fascist. Also black/grey/dark-green uniforms. I would like to quote Frasher from farfromsubtle: "Say what you want about nazis, but they had some badass clothes." or something to that effect.

JACK boots are facist/totalitarian, but jack boots are not the same as a combat boot imho. For one they don't look nearly as good. (combat boots don't) but jack boots aren't nearly as functional.
