Flattened and alternating riveted/solid wedge-riveted rings with 17 gauge mild steel wire. Rings are about 9mm diameter.
And the helmet has the leather lining suspension. 16 gauge steel. It's actually more massive than it appears in the pic; if the liner's wide open, the helmet sits low enough for the noseguard to be below my chin. I packed the upper inside of it with leather for a more stable fit. Weighs a tad more than a Kevlar helmet.

The boy and I playing Ticket to Ride: Asia with some friends at Ohayocon. Sadly the boy had con crud, which is probably why he looked so dismal. (Which he ended up giving to me, yay.) I lost by 1 point. Bah!
