If that's the case I can't wait to see a photo of you on November 30th. You'll be Mustache Rapunzel.

Most people look bad with mustaches.  You've got enough of a hang-down at the sides to turn it into a Mustache of Authority.  I approve.

It's weird.  I can grow a full, robust beard, but no mustache.  I am fated to wear the Lincoln Beard.

That's the Movember rule, if you're participating. Shave everything on October 31st, grow your stache throughout November.

Very, very true.  Believe me, my weekend hikes with my new camera are ALL about trying to look at things in a different way and find the beauty therein.

Following images are spoilered.
Trigger warning, stuff that goes bang and my tactical beard.
(click to show/hide)

So based on the top image, some idiot hooah just accused me of stolen valor.  Dude I'm wearing jeans, a hoodie and a hat I've had since before your balls dropped. I also happen to have an AR I built myself. There's nothing valorous about any of that. Do you even know what Stolen Valor MEANS? Outside of an American flag patch on my cover I have nothing on that jacket that can be construed as even being related to the military, much less valorous. Important notice: Jeans and a hoodie can now get you mistaken for a Deltaforcerangerseal! We need to take these dangerous tactical garments off our streets.

SV is the act  of a person to fraudulently claim having received any of a series of particular military decorations with the intention of obtaining money, property, or other tangible benefit from convincing someone that he or she rightfully did receive that award.

fer instance: Joe Civilian shows up in public in a recognized US military uniform with the Congressional Medal of Honor prominently displayed.  He may even have some bullshit hero story.  His intent: to gain self recognition or any type of benefit for his fraudulent claims.  yes, this has happened.
secondary example: Bob the Veteran who honorably served, decides to 'embellish' his service with a Silver Star or three.  Same intent.  Equllly criminal.

A little stylized cartoon Valkyrie

if there is ill-gotten gain, it is a crime: usually felony fraud.
it varies State to State: but just lying about it is a misdemeanor.  it's along the lines of impersonating a police officer.
but then, when an offender is discovered; it is usually by the veteran community.
and the verbal beat downs they can dish out are EPIC.

That looks like you bought a Ford from a council estate. Should I admire your bravery or naivete?

So is that what's being described when someone says a 'Ford Asbo'?

No, the Ford ASBO was coined by Top Gear. Jeremy Clarkson used it to descibe a model of Ford Focus that had been released which was updated to fit in with the hot hatch market popular with young drivers, usually male. The particular model supplied to the programme was painted in a bright and garish shade of Orange.

Some opportunist knocked up some layover decals which became briefly popular with the aforementioned young drivers, usually male. A lot of models of Ford's could never be considered an ASBO.

As an aside I do still hold that it is illegal to drive a Mondeo unless at least one part of the bodywork is in some way held on with duct tape.

Anti-Social Behaviour Order.

Back around the turn of the millenia the UK got very fixed on the term Anti-Social Behaviour. We had a long running stream of moral outrage in the media about kids with hoodies, neighbours from hell, lager louts, shaggalufians and all manner social ills that upset the social elite who felt the hoi and the polloi were horning in on their party. So naturally the Labour Party reverted to their lefty leaning trade unionist roots and started cracking down on the upstart proles.

Cue the ASBO, a toothless ticket to tell the great unwashed that they better toe the line or they'll be on the hook for a stern talking to. As night follows day, ne'er do wells got lawyered up and demanded the basic human right to grate everyone's nerves be respected and wee scally's got shipped off to EuroDisney for a couple of nights if they promised to cry off that their mam didn't love 'em nearly enough. Late night TV pundits spent hours deliberating how this set on the knife-edge between soft touch and cruel and unusual punishment.

These days ASBOs are trawled out in the silly season to cast a disapproving eye on unruly livestock.

Not a complete shower of legal shit though, it paved the way for a wider variety of legal Orders that are used to far better effect such as FMPOs, DVPOs and non-mols

Here's me in a Gomez Addams suit, although I look nothing like John Astin and even less like Raul Julia:

Good to know; I've been reading the Rivers of London series (I heartily recommend same for fans of urban fantasy, btw), and the protagonist owns and drives a Ford Asbo, which I knew wasn't the actual designation (I do know what an ASBO is), but wasn't sure exactly what kind of Ford it was, other than a smallish cheap one.
