What did Veronica Reed tell her youngster about her work?

--- Quote from: stoutfiles on 03 Nov 2011, 08:22 ---I always got the opposite response, that Marten somewhat resents his mother and is embarrassed by the whole thing.  He also acts like he endured a bunch of kids talking about his mom is a MILF, they saw her videos, etc.

Hmm... Maybe, but then there is what Marten actually said about it. It doesn't sound as if his mother's work was widely known in his local community. Possibly the kids at his bondage-gear show-and-tell were too young to make the connection. I have no idea where show-and-tells feature in the American school curriculum, but I'm thinking pretty junior.

jwhouk:
Show and Tell is usually something done between Kindergarten (5 years of age) to grade 3 (8 years), so yeah, it is a bit young to be bringing bondage gear to school.

If, as some have posited around here in the past, Marten is from Northern California, then something like this might indicate that they lived in one of the outlying sections of the (San Francisco) Bay Area - like, say, Salinas, San Jose, or even Palo Alto.

Or, of course, if Jeph REALLY wanted to mess with our minds: Sunnyvale.

EDIT: Yes, I'm aware that it's not the real name of the city in BTVS, but think of the implications!

--- Quote from: cesariojpn on 03 Nov 2011, 12:25 ---IIRC, Dora mentioned that Marten views sex in "utilitarian" terms. And cue Marten doing shibari to Tai.

I though she was saying he views bondage in "utilitarian" terms.

I mean, what he's next seen making use of, is his bondage skills, not his sex ...

--- Quote from: Andy147 on 03 Nov 2011, 12:48 ---Is "telling off your adult son as if he were a child, in front of his friends" typical "mother" behaviour? I know my mother wouldn't do that (and she wouldn't get the pathetic reaction that Marten's mother got if she did).

--- End quote ---

Uh, actually I think it is. I wouldn't put it past a lot of mothers to chide their kids in front of their friends no matter what age the kid is; parents often always see their children as children. The reason your mother probably wouldn't do that to you is because of what you said in parenthesis. You're obviously very different from Marten.

As a parent, I know that you never  lose the desire to correct your children.  We mean well, we only want to help.

It takes a lot to suppress that reaction.  Sometimes the only lessons learned are those learned first-hand.

Obviously, Andy147 has trained his mother well!
