Oh bugger, well I feel like a right idiot on both of those fronts. I remember being dead excited about BOTM when I found it on bolachas-gratis blog while it was still going. Ah well.

Here's the Joseph Nothing album- http://www.med!afire.com/?dxjtdlbj0wb

hey. I've been leeching off this thread for too long, I felt it was about time I contributed something, even if they aren't exactly rare cuts.
By the way, Onewheelwizard you are fucking amazing, and that Dark Surf stuff was tasty delicious.

Faust - So Far

I'm sure most of you have this one, but hey, for those who don't.

Quote from: AMG
Faust's second album moves closer to actual song structure than their debut, but it still remains experimental. Songs progress and evolve instead of abruptly stopping or cutting into other tracks. The opening song "It's a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl" begins as a repetitive 4/4 beat played on toms and piano with the title sung over the top. But for seven minutes the song adds instruments, including a lush analog synth line, and ends in a memorable sax riff. Faust's lyrical side appears on the acoustic "Picnic on a Frozen River" and "On the Way to Adamäe," whereas its abrasive side pops up on "Me Lack Space." "So Far," a jam shared by guitar, horns, and tweedy keyboard, rolls along with a funky hypnotic beat and wailing processed synths. And on "No Harm," the crazed delivery of such lines as "Daddy, take the banana, tomorrow Sunday" makes one want to believe something profound is going down. In terms of scope and the wealth of ideas, this is probably the most balanced of their first four albums.

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing...

Quote from: AMG
As a suburban Californian kid, DJ Shadow tended to treat hip-hop as a musical innovation, not as an explicit social protest, which goes a long way toward explaining why his debut album Endtroducing... sounded like nothing else at the time of its release. Using hip-hop, not only its rhythms but its cut-and-paste techniques, as a foundation, Shadow created a deep, endlessly intriguing world on Endtroducing, one where there are no musical genres, only shifting sonic textures and styles. Shadow created the entire album from samples, almost all pulled from obscure, forgotten vinyl, and the effect is that of a hazy, half-familiar dream -- parts of the record sound familiar, yet it's clear that it only suggests music you've heard before, and that the multi-layered samples and genres create something new. And that's one of the keys to the success of Endtroducing -- it's innovative, but it builds on a solid historical foundation, giving it a rich, multi-faceted sound. It's not only a major breakthrough for hip-hop and electronica, but for pop music.

So that's it. Hope I did it right. And yes, they are my links. Oh, and if anyone want's that new Mogwai track I can hook that up too, though I'm pretty sure there is a download on their site so you could just go there, but I got it from a friend so my knowledge of such things is limited.

Fewer dance-able tunes than "Danse Macabre" but slightly more than "Wet From Birth." I'm not sure the album lives up to the 4 year wait preceding it, but it seems pretty solid.

Any Omaha natives seeing them at Sokol next month?

Thanks for the Faint leak, but I guess it's not the whole album. According to Amazon, there are 10 tracks on it. It appears to be missing a track called "Get Seduced."

Yeah, I just noticed that. Also, "The Geeks Were Right" is cut off a bit early (it should be easy to find separately... pretty sure iTunes has it as the single).

In any case, I'm pretty happy to find this. Can't wait for the concert!

Heres some early metal from Riot, no not Quiet Riot, these guys are a lot better. They are what hair metal wishes it was: fun, simple, and kickass. Both albums are in the one link.

Riot - The Fire Down Under

from allmusic
Quote
Unquestionably the best offering from New York's Riot, Fire Down Under is considered by many to be an early-'80s metal classic. After two marginally successful LPs, 1977's Rock City and 1979's Narita, bandleader Mark Reale worked out all the kinks in Riot's membership and musical delivery, and the results are dramatic. The songs are tight and memorable, the guitars are flashy, and the production is aggressive and slick on this 1981 collection. The group's best and most recognizable tune, "Swords & Tequila," kicks off Fire Down Under with an astonishing power surge. Other standouts include the fast-paced title track, "Outlaw," and "Don't Bring Me Down." The intensity then lets up as some bland numbers dampen the second half of Fire Down Under. But despite a few lesser cuts, this effort qualifies as one of the top metal discs of 1981, and the only Riot recording that competes with mainstays from the likes of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and (early) Def Leppard.

Here's some random stuff:

Pulp - His 'n' Hers

Quote
Pulp had been kicking around since 1981, but for all intents and purposes, their 1994 major-label debut, His 'n' Hers is their de facto debut: the album that established their musical and lyrical obsessions and, in turn, the album where the world at large became acquainted with their glassy, tightly wound synth pop and lead singer Jarvis Cocker's impeccably barbed wit. This was a sound that was carefully thought out, pieced together from old glam and post-punk records, assembled in so it had the immediacy (and hooks) of pop balanced by an artful obsession with moody, dark textures. It was a sound that perfectly fit the subject at hand: it was filled with contradictions -- it was sensual yet intellectual, cheap yet sophisticated, retro yet modern -- with each seeming paradox giving the music weight instead of weighing it down. Given Pulp's predilection for crawling mood pieces -- such effective set pieces as the tense "Acrylic Afternoons," or the closing "David's Last Summer" -- and their studied detachment, it might easy to over-intellectualize the band, particularly in these early days before they reached stardom, but for all of the chilliness of the old analog keyboards and the conscious geek stance of Cocker, this isn't music that aims for the head: its target is the gut and groin, and His 'n' Hers has an immediacy that's apparent as soon as "Joyriders" kicks the album into gear with its crashing guitars. It establishes Pulp not just as a pop band that will rock; it establishes an air of menace that hangs over this album like a talisman. As joyous as certain elements of the music are -- and there isn't just joy but transcendence here, on the fuzz guitars that power the chorus of "Lipgloss," or the dramatic release at the climax of "Babies" -- this isn't light, fizzy music, no matter how the album glistens on its waves of cold synths and echoed guitars, no matter how much sex drives the music here. Cocker doesn't tell tales of conquests: he tells tales of sexual obsession and betrayal, where the seemingly nostalgic question "Do You Remember the First Time?" is answered with the reply, "I can't remember a worst time." On earlier Pulp albums he explored similar stories of alienation, but on His 'n' Hers everything clicks: his lyrics are scalpel sharp, whether he's essaying pathos, passion, or wit, and his band -- driven by the rock-solid drummer Nick Banks and bassist Steve Mackey, along with the arty stylings of keyboardist Candida Doyle and violinist/guitarist Russell Senior -- gives this muscle and blood beneath its stylish exterior. The years etching out Joy Division-inspired goth twaddle in the mid-'80s pay off on the tense, dramatic epics that punctuate the glammy pop of the singles "Lipgloss," "Babies," and "Do You Remember the First Time?" And those years of struggle pay off in other ways too, particularly in Cocker's carefully rendered observations of life on the fringes of Sheffield, where desperation, sex, and crime are always just a kiss away, and Pulp vividly evokes this world with a startling lack of romanticism but an appropriate amount of drama and a surplus of flair. It's that sense of style coupled with their gut-level immediacy that gives His 'n' Hers its lasting power: this was Pulp's shot at the big time and they followed through with a record that so perfectly captured what they were and what they wanted to be, it retains its immediacy years later.

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Barbed Wire Kisses

Quote
Just a few years into their official recording career, the Jesus and Mary Chain had enough B-sides, outtakes, and other things sitting around to warrant a collection of nearly all of them, thus Barbed Wire Kisses. A welcome inclusion is the original debut single on Creation, "Upside Down," which in terms of the mix alone makes Psychocandy sound like Boston. Unfortunately the flip side cover of the Pink Floyd rarity "Vegetable Man" doesn't make it, but obvious inspirations the Beach Boys get saluted twice, once through a heavily thrashed-up cover of "Surfin' USA" that's pure Psychocandy in fidelity and impact, then again through a hilarious parody. "Kill Surf City" is pure Brian Wilson circa 1963 in melody, but the lyrics are something else again -- death, doom, destruction, and a bit of love here and there -- and the end result is a truly nutty combination. Another double tribute is given to Bo Diddley; his "Who Do You Love" becomes a low, menacing lope, echo cranked up high, while "Bo Diddley Is Jesus" just about says it all in the title, while of all bands, Can gets a nod via a cool live cover of "Mushroom." A single came with the whole thing as well, "Sidewalking," one of the band's best yet. Taking a T. Rex-styled glam strut and running it through their trademark clang'n'scrape feedback wringer, it's a monstrous track, the best song from the group since their Psychocandy days. A large number of tracks essentially continue the Psychocandy aesthetic without adding much to it, though those not entirely taken with Darklands will find much to love with the likes of "Head" and "Cracked." Meanwhile, two alternate versions of album cuts -- an acoustic take on "Taste of Cindy" and a neat demo take of "On the Wall" -- add to the fun.

Killing Joke - Night Time

Quote
Marking the full return from the band's out-of-nowhere hiatus in 1982, Night Time, following after a couple of test-the-waters EPs, finds the reconstituted Killing Joke, with Paul Raven in on bass but otherwise unchanged, caught between their earlier aggression and a calmer, more immediately accessible approach. This turned out to be the band's Achilles heel in the end, with later albums in the '80s evidence that the group had turned into an unbelievably boring, generic modern rock band. At this point, however, the tension between the two sides had a perfect balance, and as a result Night Time is arguably the quartet's freshest album since its debut, with a warm, anthemic quality now supplementing the blasting, driving approach that made the band's name, as songs like "Kings and Queens" demonstrate. Geordie Walker pulls off some jaw-dropping solos amid his fierce riffs -- check out his turns on the title track -- while Paul Ferguson mixes and matches electronic beats with his own very well (perhaps a little less intensely than before, but not by much). Jaz Coleman's experimentation with keyboards -- chopped-up vocal samples, calmer and sweet lead melodies -- is paralleled by his own singing, now mostly free of the treatments and echoes familiar from earlier days. He's got a great singing voice as it stands, and it's a treat to hear him let it flow forth without forcing it. "Eighties" turned out to be the retrospectively most well-known song, due to a surprising and not always remembered example of Killing Joke's influence -- Nirvana, of all groups, thoroughly cloned the watery guitar line at the heart of the track for "Come as You Are." "Love Like Blood" was the breakthrough single in the U.K., although -- and for good reason -- it managed the bizarre trick of slotting alongside Duran Duran for mainstream radio airplay while still sounding like nobody other than Killing Joke. A pity the group then spent some years doing pallid clones of the song.

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?xzcxznylm8z
Seriously, the Killing Joke album is really good. It's the sort of sound I think Joy Division would have pursued if Ian Curtis hadn't committed suicide since it's halfway between being the full on synth-dancey goodness of New Order and Joy Division songs like "Transmission". Jaz Coleman is probably a better singer though...

Oh, and "Love Like Blood" is probably one of the best songs to come out of the post-punk movement.

It doesn't matter. In Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options. Then under the File Types tab find rar in the list, click it and click 'Change' in the area underneath. Choose the program you want and hit ok and apply and ok and it should work. There's probably an option somewhere in 7z to do al this but I've never used it myself.

An accomplished painter, singer, songwriter, violinist and guitarist, New Zealand's Alastair Galbraith has brought all those talents to bear on a diverse body of work dating back to the mid-'80s. He has led the exceptional groups Plagal Grind and the Rip, recorded extensively under his own name, and collaborated with the Dead C's Bruce Russell in the experimental noise project A Handful of Dust. This last excursion notwithstanding, nearly all of Galbraith's work displays his knack for crafting beautiful pop nuggets infused with striking, often abstract lyrical imagery. Like most of the world-class talents in his homeland, he is a underappreciated diamond in the rough.

Galbraith's skills were first showcased in the Rip, which released two EPs in the mid-1980s. The second, Stormed Port, is particularly fine, and features several elements that recur throughout Galbraith's subsequent recordings: a penchant for milking maximum emotional mileage out of a slow chord change; angular, almost modal, violin work (which accents several of the guitar-based songs quite nicely) and doubletracked vocals that give most of his tunes a beautiful ethereal quality.

Galbraith's best work is on the self-titled EP by Plagal Grind, the lone recording issued by a band whose ranks also included Peter Jefferies (originally of This Kind of Punishment, more recently a member of Cyclops and 2 Foot Flame and the architect of a strong solo career), David Mitchell (who had previously served in the Exploding Budgies and the excellent Goblin Mix, and would later co-found the 3Ds) and Robbie Muir (who had played with Galbraith in the Rip). While the Rip's recordings were almost folky, Plagal Grind ups the sonic ante with richly textured electric guitars and loads of reverb, resulting in a shimmering, mystical sound perfectly suited to Galbraith-penned songs like "Yes Jazz Cactus," "Marquesite Lace" and the majestic "Receivership." One of the high-water marks for New Zealand rock.

I've been fed off of all your efforts for a while now, so I'll give back a little over the next few days, starting with this one awesome album.

Hi, new member of this thread here. I've discovered a few gems thanks to you all, so I wanted to give back. Hope you enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Shogun Kunitoki – Tasankokaiku (2006 Fonal)

Loving this album. Electronic-infused psych rock from awesome Finnish label Fonal. They say they have “a mission to help electronic music regress back to a more human state, the time of the tube organ and the ring modulator, the spring reverb and the test oscillator.” Can’t wait for the new album due this year. From Boomkat:

Quote
Don’t worry Fonal fans, the world hasn’t gone totally insane and Fonal isn’t releasing a non-Finnish artist; Shogun Kunitoki is not as Japanese as the name and sleeve art might suggest (they are in fact a Helsinki based four piece). I’ve been waiting for this one for a while now, after hearing a sample a few months ago on the Fonal site I knew it was going to be good, being a shameless Goblin fan to hear a band emulating that sound while injecting it with some of the fun and lo-fi charm that Paavoharju made their trademark makes me weak at the knees. Thankfully the album lives up to my expectations and even exceeds them, seemingly blending a good proportion of my record collection into one easy to manage cd. There are splinters of Stereolab, bubbles of Broadcast, squeaks straight out of BBC Radiophonic experiments, the heart and soul of The Silver Apples and it’s all polished off with a smattering of Rick Wakeman for good measure. The end result, while oddly familiar, is almost impossibly irresistible and is sure to end up on many a top10 list at the end of the year. Shogun Kunitoki’s use of crusty analogue instrumentation and that band dynamic injects the project with the human element lacking from so much electronic music. You can hear the band busy at work on ‘Tasankokaiku’, shakers rattling, keys being pressed, drums being hit – and it’s all the better for it. I was beginning to think music of this calibre had died out completely, so thanks be to Fonal for resurrecting it again. Highly recommended.

Chairlift – Does You Inspire You (2008 Kanine)

Debut album from Brooklyn-based psychedelic synth-pop three-piece with strong female vocals; good friends of MGMT. I got hooked on “Evident Utensil,” and the rest of this album lives up to their previous smattering of songs.

Quote
Intent on making music for haunted houses, Caroline Polachek, Aaron Pfenning, and Patrick Wimberly formed Chairlift in the summer of 2006. Frequenting late-night jazz shows at the strange Broker Inn on the outskirts of Boulder, CO, Chairlift were mystified by its 1980’s faux-gothic architecture. The oak-cabinet aquariums, vacant dancefloors, fake trees, and muffled velveteen booths provided the ideal hypothetical setting for a new breed of pop music. With their backgrounds in fine arts, film and jazz, coupled with a move to Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2007, the trio was in danger of succumbing to art-snobbery and pretension. Instead, they started playing shows with fun and thriving experimental pop magicians, like MGMT, Ponytail, Yeasayer and Mixel Pixel. Merging their Colorado roots with their new urban surroundings, Chairlift’s sound developed into a hypnotic, tongue-in-cheek yet uniquely compelling brand of synth-pop. After much trial and error of experimentation, their newest effort has resulted in something more akin to a John Hughes/80’s film soundtrack, though the band is surprisingly unfamiliar with several of the artists thought to be their very influences.

Their first official release, the “Evident Utensil” single - an ode to pencils - personified their quirkiness. NME called it, ”a charming pop oddity,” Exclaim! gave it, “immediate cult status,” and RCRDLBL deemed it, “the best single from a Brooklyn band since, like, TV on the Radio or something.” Comparisons have been made to The Knife, Art of Noise, Of Montreal, and Yaz.

Heya guys, I feel like sharing more, but I'm not eclectic enough to be cool and post scary random music like all you, so you get The Cramps, Bikini Kill, The Books, The Godz, Mars, and Crystal Stilts.

Crystal Stilts - Crystal Stilts
Part of that whole post-punk revival business everyone is talking about. I enjoy it. It's good. Though the recording quality is a little wonky; they sound like they are playing in some cavern in the subterranean of the earth.

AMG doesn't have a description but it's good fun post punky type things and such like.

Contact High With The Godz - The Godz
It's just strange. Just get it, it's one of the funniest things you'll hear.

Quote from: AMG
Clocking in at a hair over 25 minutes, Contact High is an unholy mess of a record. Opening with the track "White Cat Heat," which consists of clumsily strummed acoustic guitars, arhythmic percussion, and Jim McCarthy and Larry Kessler screeching like a couple of, uh, cats in heat, it gets weirder. Best tracks are "1I have nothing of value to add. Equals ?" and the hilarious "Lay in the Sun" (total lyrics: "All I want to do is lay in the sun"). For those who like their pop on the cutting edge, begin here and don't turn back.
It's awesome.

78+ - Mars
One of the main artists in the No Wave scene. It's cool stuff.

Quote from: AMG
Originally released in the mid-'80s, and then slightly expanded for its late-'90's resurfacing on Atavistic (thus the "+"), 78+ puts together pretty much everything the band did in the late '70s in one form or another. Then again, there's a bit of after-the-fact tweaking, in that J.G. Thirlwell (aka Foetus) did a fair amount of remixing of the tracks, so until a straightforward version of "No New York" resurfaces properly, this will have to do. For all the complaints at the time of the band's supposed unmusicality, the original 7" single that kicks things off, "3-E/11,000 Volts" is actually pretty dang catchy, the former practically inventing bass-led post-punk without trying, while Sumner Crane's nervous vocals slip between the shuddering, deeply strange percussion. That said, there's plenty in the overall clamor and discordant nature of the band's songs that pretty clearly show where any number of bands, not least Sonic Youth, picked up on what the group was doing and then ran with it as desired. The "No New York" tracks themselves are certainly more in the way of textured and strange noise -- Brian Eno was clearly having a great time being a new kind of studio-based producer, at the least, with the metallic wash and murky mix really finding a missing link between the Velvet Underground and the Jesus and Mary Chain's early industrial strength abuse. On the best number, Crane's snaky bass holds down the center of "Helen Forsdale," while China Burg's lead vocals take a nervous, post-Yoko Ono approach. The live tracks are comparatively clearer in comparison, though the band does their best to capture that sense of compressed, dank chaos just as well on stage as in studio -- the extreme drift and float of "Hairwaves" is particularly haunting. As for the new extras that conclude the reissue, "Scorn" is a quick, clanking, overdriven-treble rant of sorts (not a bad thing, really!), while "N. N. End" is pure bass-stab feedback-howl freakout in excelsis.]

The Sun Smells Too Loud - Mogwai
I'm told this is a new track from Mogwai. It's pretty good.

Psychadelic Jungle/Gravest Hits - The Cramps
One of my favorite The Cramps albums.

Quote from: AMG
Here, Kid Congo Powers and Ivy form just as fine a team as she and Gregory did on earlier releases, and if things aren't always as flat-out fried as on Gravest Hits and Songs, the same atmosphere of swampy, trashy, rockabilly-into-voodoo ramalama reigns supreme. The song titles alone show the band hasn't really changed its sights any: the opening two cuts are covers, "Green Fuz" and "Goo Goo Muck," while originals include "Caveman," "Can't Find My Mind," and the brilliant "The Natives Are Restless." Then there's "Don't Eat Stuff Off the Sidewalk," which almost sounds worthy of a Frank Zappa freakout (at least lyrically). Other legendary tracks like "Primitive" and "Green Door" get the Cramps makeover this time out, with the proper mix of respect and hot-wired energy, while "The Crusher" sounds like Interior's on the verge of going completely insane. The Cramps themselves take over the production this time out, resulting in a cleaner, crisper sound (especially when it comes to Knox's drums) that isn't quite as wired, for better or for worse. As commanding showmen, though, the quartet's style comes through big time, with Interior throwing in appropriate yells, yipes, and other sounds where appropriate; his antics at the end of "Goo Goo Muck" are especially gone. If anything, the moodier strutting throughout increases the creepiness of what's afoot; if things aren't psychedelic in the commonly accepted sense, it's certainly not easy listening. Interior sometimes sounds almost normal, but with the sense that something strange is lurking just around the corner, and Ivy is still one of the best guitarists around, her snarling reverb worth a thousand fret-shredders.

Smell of Female - The Cramps

Quote from: AMG
One gets the feeling from the title and cover art alone that if the Cramps could have released this live document in Glorious Smell-o-rama they would have jumped at the chance. Even without it one can almost sense the whiffs of perspiration and energy the group was cooking up; recorded at New York's Peppermint Lounge with Powers on guitar, the quartet slams out a then mostly entirely new set of songs with, as expected, appropriate covers as needed. The wonderfully profane take on Hasil Adkins' "She Said" surfaces here, with Interior sounding like he's about to die more than once. The Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction" and the perfectly appropriate "Faster Pussycat," taken from the legendary Russ Meyer film of the same name, also give the band more than a little something to chew on. As for the originals, the usual mess of swampy rockabilly and industrial strength noise comes together in just the right way from the start. "Thee Most Exalted Potentate of Love" gives Interior the chance to do his undead but still wired loveman thang right from the start, while Ivy and Powers hit the twang hard and Knox keeps everything going just right. "Call of the Wighat" is another highpoint, with Knox showing that he's up to more involved pounding and percussion when the need arises. A studio cut, "Surfin' Dead," surfaces as a ringer at the end; if not quite the Cramps go Beach Boys, it arguably forecasts the Jesus and Mary Chain's "Kill Surf City" just enough. ]

Pussy Whipped - Bikini Kill

Quote from: AMG
A more experimental follow-up from these punk rock furies. While there's still lots of vitriol, the songs are more varied and even catchy. "Rebel Girl" is a manifesto just waiting to be discovered, and the rest of the album sees the band occasionally adding fun to their recipe for punk chaos. A good starting point.

The Lemon of Pink - The Books
Beautiful. Please download it, it'll enrich you.

Quote from: AMG
Like 2002's Thought for Food, The Lemon of Pink combines experimental collage technique with an organic, folky mixture of banjo, guitar, violin, simple vocal melodies, and snippets of conversation. The collage technique snaps like that of the United States of America, but is used to introduce glitches in the melodic elements, whereas the U.S.A. attempted to subvert the tradition of the pop form. The title track's straightforward, melancholic phrasing and subtle string accompaniment are not unlike Cat Power's work with the Dirty Three, mostly due to Anne Doerner's lovely vocals, or the more ambitiously pop elements of Chicago post-rock. The song sprawls into a low-intensity instrumental collage where silence and elements of timbre cut through the melody to create glitches in an otherwise tranquil environment. The sample for sample's sake kitsch that has dragged down quite a few artists is not a problem here -- wonderfully wrought clips like the welcoming voice on "Tokyo" make the rhythm of speaking into a fetish, toying with it, breaking it, and building it back. This is also used, less effectively, on tracks like "Take Time," where a simple phrase becomes an unphased minimalist backdrop for experimentation. It isn't often that one finds an American artist with such a mastery of collage technique and a desire to incorporate traditional folk instruments and melodies. Like the Notwist or Badly Drawn Boy, the Books open up territory for relaxed electro-acoustic listening without compromising their creative process. A lovely recording sure to find its way onto many a Top Ten list for 2003.

Yeah this stuff isn't that new and yeah it's probably been posted here before, but there's nothing worse than going through a bunch of pages looking for something you saw once on this thread and then finding the download is down. So I'm posting some of my favorite stuff of all time, regardless of whether it's been posted before. Happy listenings, I'm off.

On the topic of recent hiphop uploads:

DJ Shadow - I downloaded this! I haven't listened to it but I'm excited, will comment later.

MrBlu:
Damian Marley - I downloaded this, I'm a little bit meh. I mean, it's got something good going, but it's missing something, maybe a bit of his father's soul.

The J5 albums Feedback and J5 EP are already on this thread. So is Talib Kweli's 'Focus'. I just realised I have been depriving you all of his new album 'Ear Drum', which I'll upload when I get new internets next month.

Okay so here is something I found

A.T.B.A.N. Klann - Grass Roots (1992?)

If this sounds unfamiliar, it is because ATBAN Klann changed their name to 'The Black Eyed Peas' soon after this album and Easy E's death. Basically it's will.i.am and apl.de.ap before they got famous. This album was recorded with Ruthless Records, which withheld releasing because it felt the album would not appeal to the target market. It was later released on the internet. It's interesting, will.i.am is an amazing freestyler and so is aple, though the production beats aren't as good as their later albums

It's mad-crazy and awesome.

Mock Orange - Mind Is Not Brain

Quote from: All Music Guide
Indiana's Mock Orange released their first record in 1998, but it's with 2004's Mind Is Not Brain that they have really come into their own. Sounding like a Midwestern Modest Mouse high on Pavement, they delightfully rip through stabbing indie rock and crunchy (ironically) feel-good melancholia. On "Hawks Can Go," they prove they can wield a lyric like "God damn" almost as well as Isaac Brock. The contagious "I Keep Saying So Long" is worthy of Dinosaur Jr. circa Green Mind -- and rock & roll compliments don't get much better than that. The band shakes through the title track like Built to Spill before taking on the subtle shimmer of "East Side Song" and the heartland rock of "Make Friends," which means that Mock Orange really are indie rock's secret weapon -- they are above the emo fray, hark back to greats like Hüsker Dü as well as contemporaries like Love As Laughter, and never rely on the simplicity of overplayed punk-pop. Frankly, they can do it all, always with an unhinged lo-fi edge, and not giving them some serious attention would be criminal.

I've been taking a lot of stuff from here so I decided I'd give back:

Brother Machine - No Home In This World

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?ejekvhg5dtp
I suggest this album above all, because the Brother Machine is indeed my favorite band and I'd appreciate it very much if more people knew about them. They're of Austin locale and rock very much. If you don't like this album, then I'll upload a different one that you may perchance enjoy  more, because a lot of their music is very different. This isn't really my favorite album of theirs, but it's one of the only actual albums of theirs I have, the rest of their songs that I have are just kind of randomly recorded songs. Conversely, if you like this, I pretty much have everything they've ever done, so there's plenty more where this came from.

Mom - Little Brite

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?5gcc9gnyxs3
Mom is a local Post-Rock/Electroacoustic band from Denton. Their shows have been completely amazing and moving. Their music is just great. That's all I really have to say about it.

The Album Leaf - Into The Blue Again

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?dgn2ywgyddd
The Album Leaf is Jimmy Lavalle from Tristeza's solo project. Into the Blue Again is full of awesome songs, several of which with very interesting melodies.

Yndi Halda - Enjoy Eternal Bliss

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?ywly3wvtgrh
Quote
Yndi Halda (pronounced YIN-dee hal-DAR) are a indie-rock band from Canterbury, United Kingdom. 'Yndi Halda' is Old Norse for "Enjoy Eternal Bliss", also the name of their "self-titled" debut. The band's music is characterized by expansive, cinematic pieces that have seen the group compared to modern classical and post rock - however, Yndi Halda's work is usually considered more thematically optimistic or hopeful, and more song-based than artists of those genres.

Sam Sparro - Sam Sparro

Part 1
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?mjmxu0ojlqrPart 2
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?dnmtofzt0up
Quote from: Last FM
Sam Sparro’s music is the sum of his church choir upbringing, his international cultivation and his penchant for back-alley warehouse parties and clubs.
As a child, Sam was a low-mileage triple-threat Christian school boy who acted in commercials and plays, sang in church, and danced just about anywhere there was open space. After moving from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles at the age of 10, he continued to sing in church – learning from some of greatest session singers LA had to offer. Singers that had performed with Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Chaka Kahn and the likes were booking Sam to sing on Demos, TV Shows and records.

At 17 Sam left home and moved overseas again. He went back to Sydney and worked in a music PR company before relocating to London. He quickly developed a love for the city and its accompanying culture and soundtrack. He spent his days temping in Record Companies and such, his spare time making electronic music in his bedroom and his nights dancing at clubs and house parties. After a few years abroad, Sam’s visa was coming to an end so he returned to LA and continued producing and recording in his bedroom.

With his unique universal appeal Sam Sparro has already single-handedly wooed the rather spoiled Los Angeles music scene with his grace and signature wit. Currently featuring a semblance of laptops, keytar, and vocals, his presence is reminiscent of the funk greats of the 80’s. His seductive, soulful vocals on top of post-modern electro beats however, make him distinctly 21st century.

I've really enjoyed this album, very much my taste at the moment.

And here it is;

Talib Kweli - Ear Drum (2007)

I actually really like this album, it is a little bit 'self-indulgent' and Talib is trying to 'expand' his subject matter. Not as good as his earlier work, but check out NY Weather Report, Eat to Live, and Give 'Em Hell. AMG described it harshly as 'single-handedly trying to save rap'

First time I contribute to this place, been using a lot of these thread's links so it's time to help some. I decided it would be a nice start if I contribute with one of the best experimental bands from early 90s, here I came with the whole discography of Gastr del Sol.

NOTE: Those are NOT my links, I have test most of them and they're good.

I need to start contributing to this again.  Here's this year's best album that you've probably never heard of:

Hilotrons - Happymatic

Fantastic review from Cokemachineglow here: http://www.cokemachineglow.com/record_review/3455/hilotrons

Is the first song supposed to sound all crackly?

PS: Is it just me or have CMG reviews been extra good over the past few weeks?

Ensure your tags are correct and that you have specified both Artist/Album in your post.

Upload your files in either a .zip or a .rar archive to mediaf!re.com, in multiple parts if the album is over 100mbs. The reason for this is that we know mediaf!re is safe and efficient and allows multiple downloads. The ads on other sites, such as Sendspace, are known to contain viruses on the page. Get yourself checked out.

Post your link using code tags. It's the # icon above the policeman emoticon. This prevents the links from being traced back to the forums, lowering the chance that the wrong people notice the thread, potentially threatening Jeph with legal action.

Also, please do NOT request albums.

Repost the rules at the top of each new page.

Yes, first song's supposed to be like that as far as I can tell, I bought the album off of Amazon.
