The cover is rather ugly, I agree.  I have listened to about half of this album because the leak I got about two weeks ago was all fucked.  So thanks for posting.

That isn't the real album cover, here it be:

By the way the album is amazing, all the songs are fully contained, a lot shorter than usual and just fucking brilliant, especially Ilyena. I would call a lot of them funk jams if anything, also the old punk influence is coming through too.

Of the Wand and the Moon is one of my favorite neofolk groups. I'll upload "Sonnenheim" sometime soon, maybe along with Current 93's "Soft Black Stars" album. So good.

His Hero is Gone
"Monuments to Thieves"

http://www.mediafire.com/?1yyzvnzeoc9

from epitonic:
Quote
"His Hero Is Gone's songs are powerfully incendiary blitzkriegs of fierce anti-authoritarian, anti-racist, anti-consumerist rage. This band harnesses a hardcore metal pathos that rivals Neurosis and Napalm Death, and like those bands, His Hero Is Gone's music serves as a vehicle for searing, declamatory, far-left social commentary. The music is brooding, primitive and, at times, almost crushingly heavy; the songs range from sluggishly slow to blurry fast, and they are short, incisive, and unapologetically caustic. Guitarist Todd Burdette does the primary roaring and decrying while his brother Paul pounds out propulsive drum rhythms, Carl Auge supplies the epic bass lines and handles the rest of the vocals, and Yannick Lorrain plays a searing razor-edged second guitar."

This one I can't recommend enough, and I need to stress the importance of supporting these guys.  Please, if you download and like it, go out and buy any HHIG or Tragedy records or merch.  This is the real deal.

One more for the weekend:

Flying Canyon:

http://www.mediafire.com/?3xvlz8yecxw
from terrascope.co.uk:
Quote
The relentless sun beats down on your parched skin, the crows mournful cry echoes through your mind, driving you onwards towards the shelter of the distant rocks, whilst faraway, blown by desert breeze, the sounds of Soft Canyon etch themselves into the Timeless landscape. Filled with the restless acoustic songs of Cayce Lindner, this is a beautiful album that recalls the music of Neil Young, Jerry Garcia, or David Crosby, the introspective nature of the music lending itself perfectly to the lyrical content of the songs, which seem to drift like clouds across a clear blue sky. Opening track “In The Reflection” is as slow as the Red House Painters and displays the same atmospheres as that band, although Cayces’ Songs have a faded weatherboard charm all their own. Second track “Down To Summer” reminds me of “Comin’ back To Me”- Jefferson Airplane, especially when a lonely flute joins the guitar, creating an aching melancholy sound that is pure emotion. One of the reasons that this album works so well is the understated and simple backing created by Shayde Sartin (Kelley Stoltz, Skygreen Leopards) and Glen Donaldson (Skygreen Leopards, Thuja, Jewelled Antler), whose sympathetic and, at times, exquisite playing, gives the songs a breathe of life that perfectly suits the atmospheres of the album, bringing the best out of tunes, highlighting every subtle nuance and meaning. For most of this album the songs move so slowly that it seems that time actually stands still, forcing the listener to relax into the music, especially on “At Night When The World Goes Quiet” a devastatingly beautiful song that deserves the complete attention of the listener as it weaves it’s shaman visions around you. Featuring both Donaldson and Sartin, as well as treading a similar desert trail is “Disciples Of California” the latest album from The Skygreen Leopards which is possibly their most friendly and song based release, containing 11 wistful and countryish songs, that are almost pop in their simple pleasures. As with Flying Canyon, the spectre of Neil Young is never far away, the simple arrangements sounding like outtakes from “Harvest”, a good thing in my opinion, and something which allows the songs to shine without the need for excessive ornamentation. With the songs all displaying a similar style and feel it is difficult to pick out individual tracks for praise, each one being part of the whole album, flowing together to create a perfect 35 minutes of modern American acoustic music, that unfolds and evolves slowly to wash the listener in a gentle warmth, the melodies as familiar and comforting as a freshly-picked apple. Both these albums are highly recommended, and perfectly complement each other, demonstrating that the art of songwriting is far from dead, the song carrying on tradition whilst avoiding sounding dated or stale. (Simon Lewis)

Please support the artists involved, as there is no more Flying Canyon (Cayce Lindner tragically took his own life).

5ive - Telestic Disfracture

Thanks for another awesome release, I have their self titled debut somewhere and it's pretty ownage.

I'd really, really like to upload some drone myself (just to try to establish my drone doom fanboy-ness, which knows no bounds), unfortunately my uploading capablities are extremely limited. It's a shame. I'll try to get Hyatari's 'The Light Carriers' up tomorrow, though.

EDIT: Link doesn't work.

Alcest - Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde

Quote from:  All Music
The relationship between heavy metal and the so-called "shoegazer" movement of the early '90s might not be apparent in writing, but with Justin Broaderick's amazing transmutation of his grinding industrial metal in Napalm Death and Godflesh into the dark, sonic bliss of his current incarnation as Jesu, it doesn't seem so far-fetched anymore. Immediately upon first listen the connection between one-man band Neige's French "black metal" roots and his current neo-psychedelic explorations under the Alcest moniker doesn't seem so far-fetched, natural even. Playing all the instruments on Alcest's debut full-length Souvenirs d'Un Autre Monde ("Memories of a Future World") Neige builds layers upon layers of ecstatically distorted guitars that evoke obvious comparisons to My Bloody Valentine's sonic extravaganzas and less obvious nods to the brooding minor-key post-metal of Jesu, only perhaps a bit sunnier. There are only six songs on Souvenirs, and the formula deviates only slightly, but the mission statement is evident from the opening crunch of the first track "Printemps Emeraude," as the foundation of majestic guitar swells and stately minimalist drums is laid and the journey begins, and the listener is seemingly transported over great distances and through lifetimes via hypnotic repetition and a series of dynamic shifts which are probably more important than the actual songs themselves. The feelings elicited are those of yearning, nostalgia, triumph and blissful peace, all without a single lyric in (discernible) English. And really, the best factor arising from the meeting of metal and shoegaze is that this is a guitar album -- a monstrous, churning, epic guitar album -- without a single guitar solo!

The Sainte Catherines -- Dancing for Decadence

Quote from: AMG
Though they released Dancing for Decadence on Fat Wreck, the Sainte Catherines could just have easily fit among the catalog over at No Idea Records, as at times they sound like a less poppy version of Gunmoll or a more straightforward version of Planes Mistaken for Stars. (Or really, just take your pick of whatever aggressive punk band with gritty vocals you'd like to fill in the blank). The album is chock-full of super-charged, uncompromising, no-frills hardcore with an impassioned D.I.Y. attitude that borders on a street punk frame of mind (but minus the standard accompanying "Oi!"s or liberty spikes). As a band sporting three guitarists, the Sainte Catherines play fast, they play hard, and they don't really deviate much from this direct approach. They are the band for the rebellious, left-wing, grassroots activists who, though they may spend their evenings drunk in the grimy bars of the world, also possess an unexpected softer side as well. After all, the compelling "Burn Guelph Burn" simultaneously sports lines like "Send the rich kids to war and keep the poor at home," while saying "I love the way your eyes turned red when city hall burned bright." This juxtaposition of radicalism and sentimentality in vocalist Hugo Mudie's sociopolitical lyrics is present throughout the album's half-hour run — seen further in the driving and passionate "Confession of a Revolutionary Bourgeois, Pt. 3" ("I don't like what's pretty, I like what's real/What about finding beauty where it's not supposed to be?") and the surging, guitar-driven "I'd Rather Be Part of the Dying Bungee Scene" ("I'm waiting for my love alone/Will revolution save my soul?"). One of the more notable tracks is the frank nostalgia of "The Shape of Drunks to Come," where Against Me!'s Tom Gabel contributes some terrific guest vocals. The sensitive side of the band gives them a much more human feel than simply being another pissed off, radical hardcore act, but unfortunately, the somewhat uniform nature of the music doesn't always do much to make their otherwise passionate songs that memorable. Such is the nature of a lot of this genre, though, and thus makes the Catherines' fervent delivery — if not the actual music — alone worthy of at least a few spins.

I'd meant to upload that Sainte Catherines album a while back, but totally forgot. Good work!

"The impenetrable Nicholas Szczepanik suggests that his album ‘Astilbe Rubra’ is a “collection of ideas/directions I plan to study and explore.” While this suggests some sort of work in progress, the album appears much more complete than many other noise discs of his cohort. The shrill mechanism of the opening strain on “Tire” tease the ear into preparing for a harsh noise experiment in the Whitehouse tradition, though this soon subsides into an admittedly disturbing yet passive doom like some Miklos Rosza score; as if sucked, in the end the frequency distorts until it blinks out, leading to the clatter of “Bringer”, an atmospheric soufflé of room noise and a brooding, heavily-reverberated guitar, sci-fi effects strangely fitted to a graceful sustain. Including his email address in the scant liner notes, Szczepanik invites listeners to inquire about his indeterminate methodology. While it is no secret that popular noise releases need no raison d’être (nor do many have one beyond the sound itself), this seems a reasonable, if not necessary presentation, as there is something strangely awry on this disc, as though some secret pattern is illustrating itself. In fact, the disc relies almost entirely on aesthetics, as the radioed chatter of “Convivencia” bleeds into a stunning drone, then water sounds and field recordings of birds, wind, and children: there is no motive or motif to be easily deigned – a sticking point hard to accomplish in a genre so heavily indebted to malaise. Like the Half Makeshift disc, the clarity of production here is incredible, most notably in the shower of glass on “Echoes”, leading to a beam of diamond cut vibration which leaps from even the flattest speaker to numb yr spine. As a fine reprieve, the pure drone of the expressive “Merci Manu & Sophie” clears the palette before the motley sculpture “Delays – Interference”, a piece of manipulations and concrète sounds turned out behind a last minute veil of transistor fury. “Shimmer” closes the disc pitting a mid-paced blast of guitar feedback over a dubby plod of imaginary piano, a Zen repetition replying calm beneath the chaos. The disc comes labeled with a fancy, cut paper sleeve (Small Doses never disappoints with their packages); limited to 104 pieces. Recommended for those in search of a challenge."

I have never heard of him, but from what I can gauge from what you said I will love it.  :-)

Here is 3 albums (all in one rar!)- Agoraphobic Nosebleed's 'frozen corpse stuffed with dope', 'honkey reduction' and 'altered states of america'. 161 blistering grindcore tracks in 70 minutes, for the extreme music fans in this forum- Expect a fair bit of electronic noise-esque stuff blended in too. Unfortunately, songs 32 and 47 are missing from 'altered states of america'. The only other complaint is most of the tracks are under 30 seconds, so lots of you last.fm users will have lots of unscrobbled tracks (last.fm only scrobbles tracks of 31 seconds and over  :-(). Still, some great music.

Chris Clark - Clarence Park

"Winter in July can be a strange combination. Released in May of 2001, but seeing hype and sales in June and July, Chris Clark's Clarence Park is a frostingly cold glimpse at what winter feels like -- even if one's listening to it during the dog days of relentless sun. Big reverberated beats transform into a crisp sound experiment, synth washes cut and skate alongside and in between breakbeat scientology, and sound sculpture paints imagery of glacier-like masses floating along in the sea minding their own business. Albeit not sounding especially original, and having an immense amount of pressure to do so, Clark turns in a fine debut of sensitive and cerebrally brash material that sits comfortably alongside some of the better records of 2001."

...One of my favorite electronic records of the 2000's

A-MAZING.

I own them all, but it's such a fine gesture to the rest of the board that I will have to bury you in icky semen.

They have hundreds of splits.  :| They are all quite hard to find on the internet. Oh yes, and tell me if all the names are on the 'altered states of america' album. They all came named audiotrack 01, etc, so I had to rename them all.

Those of you interested in the Ahab album may also want this.

Of Montreal -- Satanic Panic in the Attic

Quote from: AMG
From the opening synth handclaps and dual lead guitar harmonies of "Disconnect the Dots," the first song on Satanic Panic in the Attic, you know you are in for a different Of Montreal. Working on his own, save for a few helping hands on occasional strings and vocals, Kevin Barnes has crafted Of Montreal's most focused and powerful sounding record yet. Fans of the bursting-to-the-seams arrangements of the past may feel a bit let down by the stripped-down sound at first, but once you get past that feeling, the beautiful melodies and thrilling, immediate sound of the record are sure to reel you in. Besides, it isn't like this is a Matchbox Twenty record. Barnes is still as surreal lyrically and musically inventive as ever. Instead of treading closely to the conventions of the Elephant 6 chamber psych sound, Barnes expands his musical reach quite impressively to encompass disco-funk ("My British Tour Diary," which comes replete with drum breaks and cowbell; the lovely "Spike the Senses"), hard rock (the driving "How Lester Lost His Wife"), Beachwood Sparks-style cosmic country ("Erroneous Escape Into Erik Eckles"), power pop of the East Coast dB's variety (the gushing and surprisingly personal love song "Your Magic Is Working"), well-done Beach Boys homage ("Climb the Ladder"), and acoustic balladry (the wonderful "City Bird," which has one of the band's sweetest melodies and strips the sound all the way down to acoustic guitar and multitracked vocal harmonies). The last song on the record ("Vegan in Furs") even manages a breathtaking fusion of Afro-pop, disco, and freakbeat. The tougher sound and punchier arrangements also help keep the more whimsical lyrical flights from crashing (see the necrophiliac anthem "Chrissy Kiss the Corpse" or the goofy "My British Tour Diary"). Where the sticky sweetness of the band may have been a touch cloying once, now the sugar smacks you right in the head like pop music at its best does. Satanic Panic in the Attic is probably the first Of Montreal record that doesn't sound like you need a special decoder ring to figure out what is going on, the first record that you can imagine people outside of the Elephant 6 web ring buying and actually listening to with pleasure. To be able to create a record as open-hearted and musically direct and great as this without sacrificing much of the inspiration and sound that first made the band worth hearing is quite a feat.

Set Fire To Flames - Sings Reign Rebuilder

Quote
Set Fire to Flames is a loose Montreal musical collective who shares members with Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Fly Pan Am, Hanged Up, and other units. This debut offering, which appears on Alien 8 rather than Constellation, is akin to the music of their sister band only in shared personnel. Set Fire to Flames creates sometimes minimal/sometimes maximal soundscapes from a wealth of instrumentation guitars (four of them), reeds, brass, strings, a host of percussion instruments, reel-to-reel tape processes, and more. The disc was recorded in various locations around Montreal and Vancouver and in front of the public library. While in places they share the ability to create haunting, melodic soundscapes that move through varying realms of tension, such as on the suite "Steal Compass/Drive North/Disappear," they are just as apt to give themselves over to entrancing noise collages that hold the same space of depth perception that labelmates Shalarabi Effect use. Where Godspeed has become more musical, Set Fire to Flames picks up the abstract edge, employing dissonance, found tape recordings, and field-recorded voices of street people to weave the disparate threads into something gorgeous and heartbreaking, while motivated by musical and sonic textural poetics of empathy and compassion; it translates to the listener in profound ways. Issues of tension and language are considered, but not resolved because they don't need to be; they are both perceptual and process-oriented movements from one identifiable space to another. To move more into critical space as to what songs work and how would be a betrayal of what this recording is actually about (since mere cultural theory is not the sole or primary ambition of what is presented by Set Fire to Flames). Suffice to say that Set Fire to Flames is a band who uses the totality of sound, nuance, (im)balance, texture, considerable tension, space, and impression to create a music that is highly original, deeply evocative, moving, and beautiful. In typical fashion, the packaging of Sings Reign Rebuilder is aesthetically attractive and alluring; it's a kind of fetish object, which is multiplied by the double-LP version.
