While we're on a classical trip, I have every Shostakovich symphony ever on here. Be fucked if I'm uploading the whole batch but if anyone wants to request a couple (or pick a random number between 1 and 15), I'm game.

Absolutely. Rachmaninov is my hero and Shosta's works redefine 'epic', especially the 4th and 5th.

In response to the obscure black metal offer I would love some thanks... I'm seeing mayhem in a couple of weeks in London. Can't Wait!!!!!!

Sure thing. Heres half of a vlad tepes/belketre split, two of the most well known LLN bands. I will have the other half up soon.

Usually not that big of a BM fan, but that's some good stuff.

Plus you can't go wrong with a band named "Vlad Tepes".

The American Analog Set - Know By Heart
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?5myox2j4xdu
Quote from: allmusic
On Know by Heart American Analog Set plugs along in their characteristic lo-fi manner, with hypnotic guitars, mellow basslines, and careful lyrics by Andrew Kenny. Its rolling melodic lines and subtle textures continue in the vein of their previous albums and in the direction taken by its predecessor, Golden Band. Know by Heart culminates with "Aaron and Maria," a foray into crystalline, driving-tongue-in-cheek platitudes. And songs like "Punk as Fuck," "The Postman," and "Know by Heart," where Mark Smith's skittering drumwork provides the spine for a kinetically downbeat sonic experience, epitomize American Analog Set's penchant for straightforward minimalist elegance.

My favorite AmAnSet album. Can upload more if you guys want.

Hehe, thats true. They are french however.

Anyways, here is the other half of the split. Don't expect anything as great as the first half, but its still good fun, and a fair bit rawer for you raw-BM fans (if there is any).

Sun - I'll Be The Same

Quote from: Important Records
Sun is the coupling of sound artist OREN AMBARCHI and musician-producer CHRIS TOWNEND. The pair have been kindred spirits for many years, with Townend being a sensitive and crucial ear in engineering Ambarchi's landmark solo recordings. It was their shared love for expansive pop that led them to their first musical collaboration together as Sun, released on Staubgold in 2003. The self-titled debut was a laidback delight of many melodic charms and artful creation, as sweet as it was wry in its lyricism. Those trademarks continue with "I'll Be The Same", though the songs here are more freewheeling pleasures where an unaffected sense of experimentalism breezes in.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the Metric a few pages ago. A friend of mine went on and on about it for the last year. Now that she's off campus I find myself wanting to listen to it without her to get the music from.  :|

I remember earlier someone was mentioning the new Hot Chip album, does anyone still want that? I can get it on Wednesday.

Don't know whether there are any flamenco fans here (I aren't one) but I have this random album lying around, apparently its flamenco with fusion bits in but I have no idea. All I know is that it is live, awesome, and incredibly fast. Enjoy.

Thank you! I'm liking this a lot. Quite unlike anything I have heard for a while.

Now, because of my ultra slow upload speeds, I'm going to put up a list of files that I will upload if anyone asks.

Kindzadza- Waves from Inner Space (dark psychedelic trance)
Pazuzu- And All Was Silent (folk/dark-ish ambient)
VA- Finzi: Clarinet Concerto, 5 Bagatelles, 3 Soliloquies, Romance (classical)
The Wombats- A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation (UK indie-ish rock/pop type stuff)
Merzbow- (hell, I have tons of merzbow. Just say if you want any album and I will probably have it/be able to find it).

I'm quite a big fan of Vlad Tepes myself. Terrible, terrible production aside, there's some really massive riffs in there.

I might upload their Broullions II album myself in a few days.

Also: Have you got any Boreb? There's this other forum boards I frequent (Metal Archives) and Boreb is a running joke there for his obscurity and terribleness. If you have any it would be much appreciated.

A little folktronica, also some ambient IDM

The Band's name is Patten, here is their myspace page

Patten - There Were Horizons (P 2007)

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?2yegx1j1c1j

Quote from: http://www.smallfish.co.uk/
Gem! You may well remember the rather lovely little 3" CDr  we had by Patten last year (back when the shop was still open actually) that proved to be quite a hit with people. Well, it's taken a little while, but  here's the full length follow up featuring a subtle, low-key collection of  essentially guitar based tracks with gentle electronic elements. At heart  this is a plucked guitar, melodic dream-boat of a release with evocative and  simple chord structures forming the main meat of the tracks. Played with heart  and full of charm there's an innocent beauty at work here that should capture
you quickly and easily and give a healthy sense of wellbeing whilst you listen.  It has a melancholy sound at times, yet there's always an uplifting texture to  it as well that left me feeling somewhat invigorated. If you're a fan of labels  like Apestaartje or artists such as Mountains or Mole Harness, this should be on your list of things to check out. Really quite a lovely album... and a bargain too

and also some more electronica, this time from Japan. The album is a "best of", so here is the biography of the artist

Quote
Susumu Yokota emerged in the '90s as one of the most versatile electronic producers going. In his native Japan, he's been known for many years as a top-tier dance music
talent, specializing in all varieties of house while dabbling in techno, electro and trance. Aliases for his dance releases include Ringo, Prism and Sonicstuff.

Yokota gained international stature with home listeners and critics with the release  of a series of well-received ambient albums on the U.K. label Leaf, beginning in 1998
with Magic Thread, and following with Image: 1983-1998, Sakura, and 2001's Grinning Cat. While his dancefloor tracks are funky and playful with a heavy debt to epic
disco, Yokota's ambient work unfolds with the patience of a butoh dance, all small  gestures and gradually shifting layers of quiet sound. Yokota is also an accomplished
DJ, lending his mixing skills to the 2001 label retrospective Leaf Compilation.

Dog Day - Night Group

From Allmusic
Quote
Halifax, Nova Scotia's Dog Day is a lo-fi indie pop quartet that signed on with the otherwise experimental German label Tomlab. The band started as a side project for couple Seth Smith (guitar, vocals) and Nancy Urich (bass, vocals), while the two were still members of the Burdocks. After finding satisfaction with an EP in 2005, they were joined by another couple, Casey Spidle (drums) and Crystal Thili (keyboard), who were members of hardcore punk band the Hold. They heard from Leon Taheny, who produced labelmate Final Fantasy, that Tomlab was looking for a new artist. The label agreed to issue the debut full-length Night Group in April 2007.

The Finches - Six Songs

Excerpt from AlmostCool
Quote
A west-coast duo of Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs and Aaron Morgan, The Finches tread a a fine line between pop and folk on the short release, with melodic nods to both Leonard Cohen and Francoise Hardy. "The Road" opens the disc and acoustic guitar and bass provide simple but effective backing for the disarming vocals of Pennypacker Riggs, who manages to keep things light and playful without moving into overly sweet territory.

hello, i'm new in these parts and would like to share some of my favorite music, since i've just perused the thread and came out with some really interesting stuff.

i see mediafire is standard, but i uploaded these for a friend a while ago and thought i'd put em here too.

'2 foot yard' was founded by one of my favorite musicians - the versatile and prolific Carla Kihlstedt. She works with tom waits a lot, if you hear violin on anything of his from 'alice' on - it's her. She also founded 'tin hat trio' now a quintet that does jazz/tango/bossanova/avant garde stuff, mostly instrumental, she was in 'charming hostess' a group that did (in her time) funk/punk renditions of eastern-european traditional folk songs, she also founded 'sleepy-time gorilla museum' a metal band with really good music and way too much cheesy metal voice to be a mainstay in my library, oh well. These are some of her more major ongoing projects, and give a sense of her range but is by no means a complete list.

2 foot yard's first album is a mix of pop, folk, jazz, avant garde, classical with a definite punk touch even though it's all violin, cello and voice;

their second album picks up drummer and guitarist Shazad Ismally, and takes a slightly different direction than their first album. 'Borrowed Arms' has a lot more boy rock feel to it and more direct lyrics, but still manages to build on the previous album;

if any of you like this let me know, i've got a bunch of her other work - if you really like it and live in the california bay area 2 foot yard will play the sf jazz fest march 8th;

To make up for my recent infidelity I have uploaded some music. I know others than myself were having trouble coming across some pinback. well i got some... here it is.

Pinback - Nautical Antiques

Quote
Instead of releasing a proper follow-up to 2004's indie rock hit Summer in Abaddon, San Diego's Pinback peruse their earlier catalog for a solid collection of B-sides, outtakes, and rarities entitled Nautical Antiques. For fans who have already shelled out the extra cash for some of their European-only tracks or for those who have heard these songs in concert, Nautical Antiques is a perfect reflection of Pinback's growing presence in the ever-changing indie rock circle. The listener won't even notice its scattered track listing either, for Pinback has never existed in one particular space and time. From the Ace Fu Internet download and the full-band version of "Messenger" to other unreleased tracks such as the melancholic "Water Run," "Avignon," and the "Concrete Seconds" demo, Nautical Antiques holds steady just as much as any proper album would. The limited-edition This Is a Pinback CD, which appeared on Cuttyshark in the States in 2000, didn't include the lilting piano measures of "Versailles" or the raw acoustic guitars of "Byzantine." Lucky for fans, Nautical Antiques has 'em, on top of the now out-of-print Penelope EP. Not only is Nautical Antiques a solid filler between albums and a great slide show of years past, but it comes off like a brand-new Pinback record.

Pinback - Summer in Abaddon

Quote
Although Summer in Abaddon is in keeping with the lush, bittersweet tenor of Pinback's previous work, the band's Touch & Go debut is much quieter and more reserved than the busy electronic indie pop of 2003's Offcell EP. Instead, the band opts for a more organic, introspective sound that tends to put interesting productions and arrangements ahead of driving tempos or instantly catchy songwriting. Fortunately, this emphasis on delicate, cerebral pop pays off, albeit eventually: although tracks like the darkly lovely "Sender" and "3X0" initially seem too atmospheric, they gradually reveal tightly structured melodic interplay that makes them more intriguing than they might be if they were more immediately engaging. Indeed, Summer in Abaddon might work best as background music that occasionally creeps up and surprises you with its musical and lyrical details. The album's pristine production and emphasis on acoustic and electric pianos adds to its subtle, sophisticated feel, particularly on the vaguely jazzy "Bloods on Fire" and the softly poppy "This Red Book." Even the more immediate tracks, such as "Non Photo Blue," "The Yellow Ones," and "Syracuse," have a more polished, mysterious vibe than any of Pinback's previous work. The band does rock out, relatively, on the gently driven "Fortress" and "AFK," which recalls Pinback's emo roots, but the album's most delicate moments are also its strongest. Summer in Abaddon is an album of small, but hardly insignificant pleasures, and it may be Pinback's finest work yet.
