Diablo Man, that Wintersun is incredible. I'm glad that guy decided to leave his other band. Some of it reminds me of Children of Bodom, I'm so mad I lost my copy of Hate Crew Death Row, and I haven't bought the new one yet.

Alright, here is some more.

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality

For the recording of this album, guitarist Tony Iommi, who had injured his fingers in a factory accident, decided to de-tune his guitar down three semi-tones (or one and a half steps to C-sharp major). This would reduce string tension, thus making the guitar easier for him to play. Geezer Butler also de-tuned his bass guitar to match Iommi. The result was a noticeably "darker" or "sludgier sound.

Master of Reality was recorded at Record Plant Studios in Los Angeles, California between February and April 1971. This was the first time the band had recorded an album outside their home country of England. The album was produced by Rodger Bain, who had also produced their previous two albums. However, this would be his final collaboration with the band.

The slow and heavy songs that comprise most of the album are interspersed with quiet ballads written by Tony Iommi. Two of these, "Embryo" and "Orchid", are short instrumentals serving as interludes. The third, "Solitude", is much longer in comparison and features Ozzy Osbourne's soft, mournful vocals.

Unusually, the lyrics of the song "After Forever" focus entirely on Christian themes. At the time, some viewed Black Sabbath as Satanists due to their dark sound, image and lyrics. The lyrics of this song may have been written as an attempt to confuse those people, to parody Christian bands, or simply to note an observation. Similarly, the song "Lord of this World" has lyrics that appear to concern someone who is possessed by Satan.

"Children of the Grave" was written about war, peace and revolution, and is lyrically similar to "War Pigs" and "Electric Funeral" on their previous album. It is composed primarily of a chugging guitar riff and eerie interludes. The final song on the album, "Into the Void", concerns a future in which Earth has been overcome by war and pollution. A group of astronauts travel into space in search of a new world to live on. The song's dark sound and theme was a key influence on the doom metal genre.

Black Label Society - Mafia

Mafia is the seventh studio album by heavy metal band Black Label Society, released March 8, 2005. It is one of the band's most commercially successful releases selling over 250,000 copies in the U.S. The track "In This River" was written before the death of Zakk Wylde's friend and fellow guitarist Dimebag Darrell, but it has since been dedicated to him.

1) Try using spelling and grammar next time, they are really useful when you communicate with others!

2) The rules say NO REQUESTS! That means no requests! Not even one time things! I think we have made this pretty clear and I am rather tired of seeing new kids constantly request stuff anyway. Also, as Matt just said, there are other forms of finding music besides this thread. If you really want something, go hunt it down yourself.

DeVotchKa - How It Ends

Quote
Listening to DeVotchKa's third album, any aging '80s indie kid will fall into a what-if daydream. Remember when Morrissey broke up the Smiths? Maybe instead of going solo, the Mozzer should have hooked up with Peter Solowka, who at the time was starting up his own solo project outside the confines of the Wedding Present, a tongue-in-cheek blending of U.K. indie guitar pop and the sounds of his Eastern European homeland called the Ukrainians. DeVotchKa's How It Ends is a dead-brilliant amplification of what that fantasy collaboration might have sounded like. Singer Nick Urata only occasionally leans on the Morrissey-like qualities of his voice, most notably on the opening "You Love Me," but the album explores the amalgam of Eastern European folk melodies and instrumentation with otherwise straightforward indie rock to a much greater extent than the Ukrainians ever managed (and unlike the somewhat similar 3 Mustaphas 3, they have a solid grasp of how to write a catchy pop song as well). They even go so far as to interject a little Calexico-style mariachi influence into the mix, possibly under the influence of producer Craig Schumacher, who's worked with that band and Giant Sand. This is a wide-ranging and thoroughly enjoyable album from start to finish.

DeVotchKa did the soundtrack for Little Miss Sunshine with Mychael Danna, and they started as a backing band for burlesque shows. If you don't read the review quotes, just imagine a drunk Morrissey with a gypsy band. This is really a great album, and you really should have it by now.

A Mad And Faithful Telling

[img width= height=]http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s168/pilsner888/51akwzclPIL_SL500_AA240_.jpg[/img]

Quote from: Spin Magazine
DeVotchKa gained mainstream exposure in 2006 via their Grammy-nominated score for Little Miss Sunshine, but the Denver band still cavort like daffy outsiders on their stirring fifth album, a sultry brew of Gypsy, Mexican, and pop ingredients that's adorably silly and unexpectedly moving. A dizzy crooner in the mode of Andrew Bird and Rufus Wainwright, ringmaster Nick Urata celebrates heartbreak, desire, and other grand themes, driven by a craving for attention and the urge to put on a big show. If the itchy "Head Honcho" doesn't grab you, you're lost.

I'm not reprimanding you or anything for breaking the rules, and I really wish I could help, but we just get request from people who join the forums strictly to selfishly request music on this thread without contributing at all, and it bugs some of us.  I did some searching to see if I could pull anything up, and I found some other stuff by this artist on Isohunt.com, but not the specific album you're looking for.

Worst comes to worst, you can always just buy it.  It looks like there's a multitude of sites that have it in stock.

DJ Andy Butler formed a Disco band! It has people like Antony Heggarty from Antony and the Johnsons (!?) and is really good! Ot was produced by one half of the DFA!

Basically it is more kinda retro sonding electronc music with a Disco feel, only major difference is how joyous it sounds, not happy happy like in most disco, just ounds like dudes who are glad to be alive and making dance music

Dave Bixby - Ode to Quetzalcoatl [1969]

Trust me on saying that this is one excellent obscure acid psychedelic record. This is a story of a man trying to overcome his drug addiction through faith. It is a lonely, moody record. Me and others who have listened to this have no idea why this isn't a widely known record. The emotion on this acid folky record is huge, not to mention the simple pureness of the songs. Do yourself a favor and listen to this, you're missing out if you don't.

Brant Bjork - Jalamanta [1999]

I take it you guys know stoner rock legends Kyuss and Fu Manchu, perhaps also Desert Sessions and Ché. Well, this guy is the mastermind behind those bands. The bands mentioned are all rather heavy, however when it comes to Bjork's solo career he takes a whole different direction. This record, is the ultimate chill out 'desert' album. Perfect for late afternoons and evenings when the sun is about to go down. What I mean with this will become clear once you've heard it. This is Brant Bjork's masterpiece, and I highly suggest you give this a listen.

Joy Division - An Ideal For Living [EP] [1978]

I hope everyone here is familiar with Unknown Pleasures and Closer, if you haven't yet, check those out first. This first release by Joy Division is often disregarded by most fans, this has two reasons: two of the four tracks are already on the highly regarded compilation Substance, leaving many people not to check this release on its own. Secondly the typical post-punk/gothic sound Joy Division would later produce had not been invented yet. This EP contains four great songs that helped Joy Division shape their sound so that they could become the most innovative band of their generation.

Colossal - Welcome The Probems

Quote
the full-length debut by suburban Chicago's Colossal, following 2003's Brave the Elements EP, mixes the post-rock lyricism of the Sea and Cake or the Coctails (singer Jason Flaks also blows a mean muted trumpet) with the more assertive, tricksy edge of bands like Karate or even Tortoise. In other words, the songs are quite often pretty, but in a cerebral, chilly sort of way. Flaks' low-key vocal style and opaque lyrics treat the voice as just another instrument in a mix dominated by the guitars of Flaks and Pat Ford, which occasionally wander into the same sort of neo-prog showboating as the otherwise dissimilar Minus the Bear. The only problem -- and it's one that plagued Brave the Elements as well, which suggests that it's a deliberate stylistic choice -- is that the drums are annoyingly over-prominent in the mix, with a booming, hollow sound that distracts from the rest of the band, particularly Eli Caterer's fluid basslines. (Rob Kellenberger plays drums on all of the cuts, but half of them also feature extra drum tracks by producer/mixer Scott Adamson, which might be part of the problem right there.) Most of the time, the melodic strengths of these thoughtful but never inaccessible songs are enough to keep this unnecessary rhythmic emphasis in the background, but it's the sort of thing that might really bug some listeners once they notice it.

A Giant Alien Force More Violent & Sick Than Anything You Can Imagine- Venetian Snares

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?zytzym9jm2r
An EP consisting of one fifteen minute long track.

Quote from:  Pitchfork
Beginning with a menacing ambient fog that settles over the ears like gauze, Funk moves into sonic territory echoing Melodies from Mars-- cosmic, almost cartoonish synths straight out of an Ed Wood flick are backed by manic, fractured breakbeats that become increasingly cutthroat, eventually swallowing the melody like a python gorging itself on a terrified squirrel.

And that's when things get really fucked up. Air raid sirens scream, a shuffling beat emerges from behind layers of blurred static, and the bassline slides its way down the rave rabbit hole, emerging on the other side stained with background drones, almost trance-like in their ethereality. Those, in turn, are pushed aside by an octave crushing, sub-sonic bass meltdown, which decays into a culminating torrent of ass-rupturing drum loops that ride a wave of white noise to the dark at the end of the tunnel.
It's almost as punishing as Atari Teenage Riot's Live at Brixton Academy, and it brings the track full circle, making it a hot air balloon ride around Planet Snares; no sonic stone in Funk's bag of tricks goes unturned. By merging all of his personalities into one epic track, Venetian Snares guarantees an experience in aural violation as devastating and rewarding as anything in his catalog. In the end, the point of this release becomes crystal clear: even on a format best suited for Mario Party 4, it's not the size of your packaging that counts, but how ruthlessly you beat the shit out of the listener that really matters. Venetian Snares shows up to this party like a rabid dwarf with brass knuckles, and leaves you with a bloody, toothless grin.

These guys play post-rock kinda like This Will Destroy You, but with sparse use of vocals here and there. It's pretty good stuff!

Also you should download it cause it took way too long for me to upload.

^ well, i dont mind being requested. i think its different, them picking and choosing rather than straight up requesting. i have a feeling if people PM me about it, im going to get too many to keep up with, but if everyone keeps it reasonable, ill try that.

anyways, pantomime wanted some testament and death so...

Death - Symbolic

this may not be their most accessible album(try their newest one, sound of perseverance) but it is certainly my favourite. plenty of kickass riffery and soloing in here.
Quote
Symbolic is the sixth album by American band Death. It was released on March 21, 1995 through Roadrunner Records. The album was remastered and reissued on April 1, 2008 with five bonus tracks. [1]

Like its predecessors, this album is progressive and technically advanced. It is notable that the average song length on this album is around five minutes, while it was around four minutes on Human and Individual Thought Patterns, perhaps due to slowed down song tempos closer to that of traditional death metal. As a result, the album was not quite as "technical" as its predecessors but more straightforward, "progressive". According to Metal-Rules.com, it is the seventh greatest extreme metal album of all time.

Testament - First Strike Still Deadly

First Strike Still Deadly is an album released by Testament in 2001. It consists of re-recordings of songs released on The Legacy and The New Order, as well as a re-recording of a b-side from the "Trial By Fire" single ("Reign of Terror"). On some Japanese versions of this release, a different cover is present, and the disc is an Enhanced CD and includes a bonus QuickTime documentary with live clips of various incarnations of the band.

The whole idea with not requesting is it clutters up the thread, which I'm doing right now.  I vote that requests be kept to PMs, and only if someone has offered to, and that this sentence be added to the rules next page.

I really think that the only posts should be the albums themselves, and brief discussions about the albums.

Thanks a lot for that Ef album, its good stuff.  Man, i haven't uploaded anything in ages, i'm gonna get on that ASAP...

What if you don't remember who posted it first?  For example, i'd like someone to re-up Queens of the Stone Ages Rated R that was posted back on like page 20 something...or are re-up's frowned upon?

I have that record, that is a cool record.

Emilio I am glad you are still up to date on what is like mad hells of hip even though it feels like you show it off less.

Kieffer, it's not that I don't keep up with what is hip right now. I simply uploaded it to this thread last year.

Someone uploaded the DKC OST, but it got lost when pages were moved.  They would be pretty ballin' if they reupped it.

I haven't upped anything for a while, and have been nabbing a fuckton, so I guess it's time I gave a little something back.  All of these are highly recomended.

Gregor Samsa - Rest
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?klit5my2jxc
Quote from: amg
Gregor Samsa has released enough albums at this point to know that nothing helps stand out from a crowd than defying expectations at least a bit. So while Rest on the face of it, especially given the art work involved, seems like it would be restrained, somewhat gloom-tinged, epic post-rock filtered through the lens of groups like Mogwai and Godspeed You Black Emperor! — and there's definitely an element of that — it works against those expectations as much as confirms them. In part this is due to the vocals, so a song like "Ain Leuh," while it could almost be an outtake from Rock Action thanks to the violins and soft keyboards and the like, has an almost sweetly thoughtful feeling, a little bit of calm indie rock amid an equally calm but somewhat different sonic background. But the greater sense of difference between the more explosive side of the sound is in that very lack of explosiveness — it's more like a rich build of warmth track for track that intentionally holds back from being a walloping epic, with drums minimal or often absent, while rhythm comes from piano or other instruments. The resultant sense of suspension in space — especially audible on "Jeroen Van Aken," where the vocals softly echo over a deep bass line, a combination of close intimacy and distant threat, but present throughout much of the album — results in a rich listen that gets more powerful as it goes, and by the time of the combination of piano, strings and theremin which closes "Pseudonyms" helps to make the group's work be its own thing rather than something easily aligned to one style or another. A rare thing still, it seems.

Jade - Analogic

Nothing on amg for this one, but this is seriously some of the best trip-hop I've heard, and one of the best releases so far this year.  It's pretty much magical.  Pick it up.

Sam Shalabi - EID
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?db2vz2pfnrk
Quote
Upon listening to Eid it becomes clear how Shalabi was influenced by the wide breadth of Arabic pop music: each piece is stylistically its own and allowed to take its own shape. The recording opens with a beautifully played piece of Shalabi’s solo oud playing, that gives one the impression they are in store for a gentle acoustic journey. Gears shift drastically with the follow up track, Jessica Simpson, which can also be considered one of the recordings most interesting and unusual selections. Guest vocalist Radwon Moumneh does an excellent job delivering his vocals over repetitious percussion; then a totally unexpected guitar hero style solo slips in out of nowhere. Sam Shalabi enlists the help of far too many guests to list here, although along the standout contributions is that of singer/songwriter Lhasa de Sela who has a thriving solo career and has collaborated with the likes of the Tindersticks and Nick Cave. Constellation Records recording artist Elizabeth Anka Vajajick sings on Billy the Kid and Katie Moore is absolutely stunning on Billy the Kid pt II.

That should do for now.

I'm not sure how posting a record that received a 9.1 pitchfork review, a month and a half before you posted it here, qualifies as ahead of the curve.  Speaking of ahead of the curve . . . here's an album that came out four months ago!  I listened to this briefly, two spins, when it came out but it never made the regular rotation and was quickly forgotten about.  Recently it has found its way back into my rotation and I feel like I've just heard it for the first time.  Very good.  Not sure why it didn't stick for longer the first time.

A side note:  Getting the review for the album I noticed something . . . AMG fucking loves DBT  Seven 4.5/5 studio albums in a row, starting with Pizza Deliverance in 1999.  Not sure I've seen a band's studio work rated that highly that consistently and consecutively on AMG before.

Drive-by Truckers - Brighter Than Creation's Dark

AMG 4.5/5

. . . and less than three weeks into 2008 it's hard not to escape the feeling that with this disc we may already have the best album of the year.

i guess it was also a joke!

although last year i did post a ton of things that would come to become very popular in the months after, not always in this thread though.

Kieffer has a pouint though, nowadays i am mostly uninsterested in what is new because i am getting old and only listen to underground disco and modern stuff that sounds like underground disco

and ABBA.

I've checked with people who have gotten it from other places, and their version was the same.  The Lotus Eater is definitely real because it is the same as on the Roadrunner website.  Heir apparent is real as seen from live videos, and other songs match up from sources people have posted.  Plus, it leaked yesterday.  I'm assuming this is the real thing.

Disc 1

Code: [Select]

Quote
Deathconsciousness refers to three things:

It refers to the debut double album from HAVE A NICE LIFE, featuring over 4 years and 2 hours worth of recorded material. All songs have been re-recorded, remixed, and remastered, including the songs from our demo release, Powers of Ten.

It refers to the short book of the same name that accompanies the record. Over 80 pages in length, written by a University of Massachusetts History professor, this book explores the deep religious symbology we used for inspiration while writing the record. The songs contain elaborate references to 12th century apostasies; the book will help those without a background in religious history to understand their meanings.

And, finally, Deathconsciousness is the concept that lies at the heart of the record itself: the overwhelming awareness, at all times, of death and it's proximity.

Rosemary Clooney - Tribute to Billie Holiday (1978) (Concord Jazz 320kbps)

Quote
Rosemary Clooney and Billie Holiday were old friends, and Holiday was even the god-mother of one of Clooney's daughters. In this heartfelt tribute to Holiday, Clooney shows the full range of Holiday's songs, singing them in a more relaxed way than one usually associates with Holiday. Clooney was fifty when she recorded this CD, and she, like Holiday, had faced some traumatic experiences in her life. The slight world-weariness we hear in her mature voice is appropriate for Holiday's songs, and though Clooney's voice is deeper, it has a bit of the fragility that we also hear with Holiday. Her backup musicians could not be better. Scott Hamilton on tenor sax (with a great solo on "Don't Explain") and Warren Vache on coronet (at his best in "Good Morning Heartache") do yeoman's work with their solos, echoing the passion of the songs while keeping their arrangements simple, clean. Nat Pierce on piano, Cal Collins on guitar (with a terrific solo on "Lover Man"), Monty Budwig on bass, and Jake Hanna on drums, fill out the group, all of them dedicated to honoring the spirit of Holiday and her songs while showing Rosie at her best. (amazon.com)

If you only know of Rosemary Clooney from White Christmas or 'cause she was George Clooney's aunt, this album is a great chance to hear a great torch singer.
