Holy shit, 7 Year Rabbit Cycle?  I'm friends with Steve who was in that band long long ago.  Jamie Stewart offered him a place in Xiu Xiu quite a while ago but he turned it down.  He currently does solo work but until recently did music with his wife Pixie, also a friend, under the name W-S Burn.  I'll upload some of their stuff later, it's really quite good.

Unless there are actually two different bands named 7 Year Rabbit Cycle that are both from the same region of California, which would be a wild coincidence.

Hey guys look what I found!

Sunny Day Real Estate - Thief, Steal Me a Peach 7"

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?ihsqw1dnboy
This little 7" is the second release by Sunny Day Real Estate, with it being the first one Jeremy Enigk does vocals on. The first song, 8, is an earlier version of LP2. The second song 9 was never re-recorded.. This EP feels really dirty for Sunny Day Real Estate and a lot more punk/hardcore than their other stuff. 9 is especially a really good song. I'm really enjoying this 7" and any fans here of emo will probably dig this too.

Edit: Okay Dirty Three stuff. I think I'm gonna try to get their whole discography up like I did with Envy. If you have any albums feel free to upload them.

Dirty Three - Ocean Songs

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?4ny1iw7mj2b
Quote from: Completely Ridiculously Fucking Long AMG Article
The Dirty Three's fourth venture into long-play territory is easily their most controversial, and a decided change in direction. While the band's previous recordings -- Sad & Dangerous, Dirty Three, and Horse Stories -- have all, in some way, attempted to capture the trio's live show, where slow, winding patterns and riffs become a swirling churning blast of emotional cacophony for both musicians and listeners, Ocean Songs takes a very different tack to achieve an end that is similar, but more focused. There is an aesthetic at work on Ocean Songs, from the cover through to the last note of the original recordings (early issues of the CD came with a second CD with three bonus tracks, all of which have surfaced elsewhere), the purpose of which is held in the somewhat mysterious title. The music is what makes it so. Are D3 playing songs inspired by or seemingly "created" from the ocean? Or are they paying homage to the ocean? The music here keeps all tempos reigned in and all instrumental flurries to a minimum, creating the feeling of waves lapping and pouring into and out of one another. It's as if the D3 were on a vessel, playing to the ocean itself. There are hints in guitarist Mick Turner's gorgeous cover painting, which shows a tranquil mermaid on one side, a near tidal wave over a red boat on the back sleeve, and both in deep blue against a light blue background, seemingly under the ocean. On the tentative opener, "Sirena," Warren Ellis plays two- and three-notes lines, held interminably against Turner's pastoral and minimal guitar flourishes while Jim White's rhythmic constructs glisten and shimmer through the middle, offering it all more room to drift rather than create a frame. On "Distant Shore," a tune built on three chords and a fragment, Ellis puts the album's tentative nature forth in the elegantly twisting lilt of his violin, creating a melody that is simply a chant, as Turner and White slip around his center, creating a view of the shore and the ground, mirage-like and ephemeral, and presented through a watery prism, as mournful, left behind, turned away from. The centerpiece of the album -- from which there is no return, either to "traditional" D3 form or to anything else considered rock music -- is "Authentic Celestial Music." Ellis, for the first time, overdubs his violin, creating a series of drones and overlapping melodies. Turner plays its straight, creating a chord structure that follows the dynamic changes in Ellis' minimal style, from one melody to the next, with no more than 12 notes total. White relies on his tom toms and a muted snare, almost leaving his cymbals out of the mix entirely until over halfway through the tune's nearly 11 minutes. Here is a new kind of intensity for the D3, one built in unison and not in any kind of rock counterpoint. A dynamic range is built upon slowly, with repeated phrases and rhythms masking the turbulence underneath, mirroring it even, and holding some degree of it in, where previously the dials would have been in the red. This is not to say there isn't drama or tension -- far from it. It's just that it does not get released through catharsis; instead, it merely goes quiet. When "Backwards Voyager" ushers in the second half of the album, it is clear that listeners are in the aftermath of a storm. A dangerous calm is created by White's whispering snare, and deepened by Turner's generous open-tuned chords, plucked and gently strummed, as Ellis just hovers elegaically in the background, moving the band into a lulling, shimmering space where everything floats in open, empty, poetic, and lyric space. D3 move eventually from this gorgeous, mournful, and some what sad space into the heart of beauty itself, meditating on this new terrain, one which extends far beyond anything they conceived of exploring as a band on previous albums. Loss, desire, remembrance, solitude, and the tenuous benevolence of nature are all emotional frames explored in tracks like "Last Horse on the Sand," the densely mysterious "Sky Above, Sea Below," and "Black Ride." The disc ends with "Ends of the Earth," with Ellis taking up the piano as well as his violin, and Turner playing a gorgeous yet simple lyric line that evokes the shimmering horizon, endlessly out of reach, just over the next curve in the earth. Ellis, whose chords underlie his fragile song, also layers his violin just above White's brushed snare that haunts Turner's guitar. In the middle of the tune's five-minute span, one can see into the depths of the ocean itself, and hear it speak its secret truths while revealing its hidden, flowing body. It's a song than ends in a small, shimmering whisper about things to come, things that are, and things that will never be. On Ocean Songs, the Dirty Three have expanded themselves immeasurably as a band by holding themselves in to listen, and have made some of the most haunting, poetically profound, and emotionally honest music ever to come out of the "rock" world.

I want to upload this as I've been listening to this album nonstop for the last few days now, and really like it, and it seems like something a lot of you would enjoy. I apologize if this isn't new, it's entirely  possible that most of you already have it. I did search the mediafire thread for it, but maybe it was in the other half that's gone now. I know someone posted their other album, Apathobvious, a while back, but I like this album way more.

thanks for these.  bands i had read about and wanted to hear but, like a lot of new music i read about, i don't make lists and usually forget about it if it's not immediately available.  i listened to both of these a couple of times today and really like them.  something about the songs on the pete & the pirates album reminded me of the figurines; i think the way the vocals sound mostly.  frightened rabbit is super good too.  there is a moment at the end of the sixth track (the twist) when the back beat kicks in with a keyboard and the line "i need human heat" that is just sublime, and has been in my head all freaking day.  thanks again.

Joe Satriani - Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion Of Rock

his newest album, came out this april.
this is everything that an instrumental album should be. Lots of great hooks, well defined song structure, exotic sound, a variety of genres(funk, rock, world, etc), varied instrumentation, good production quality,  really dance-able rhythm, great melodies and solos, mostly very restrained and just letting the tone and notes speak. this album has a huge emotional impact for me, makes me all happy! everyone i have played this album for (kids, parents, older people, younger people have really liked it and none of them liked shred. actually im going to include it on a radio show i am doing later)

Quote
Professor Satchafunkilus was produced through the creative envisioning of Satriani and John Cuniberti; guiding the musical talents of longtime drummer/percussionist, Jeff Campitelli and renowned bassist, Matt Bissonette. A special addition to the album’s artist list is Joe’s own son, ZZ Satriani, playing the tenor sax (only at intro of track 4).

In addition to his prior allusions to the science fiction genre in the titles of his tracks, this album has 2 tracks, "Asik Veysel" and "Andalusia", dedicated to the memory of Asik Veysel, Turkey's well known saz player. Further, Satriani carries on the theme of exploring the humane facet of robots, started with the track "One Robot's Dream", with the track, "I Just Wanna Rock", which is about a robot's experiences at a rock concert.

    * The ballad "Revelation" was originally written about the death of friend Steve Morse's father. Mid way through the composition, Satriani realized he was writing about his own father’s recent death. In summation, this track is the third composition by Satriani about his father. The first one was "Into The Light" from the album Flying in a Blue Dream and the second was "Cryin'" from The Extremist .

    * Most of the tracks were composed after 2006, but "Come on Baby" is a notable exception: Satriani began the song while it snowed in during a vacation in Lake Tahoe in 1993. It wasn't until 2007 that, upon the urging of his son, ZZ Satriani, he realized it was strong enough to finish. This is a love ballad dedicated to his wife, Rubina Satriani.

   1. "Musterion" – 4:37
   2. "Overdriver" – 5:06
   3. "I Just Wanna Rock" – 3:27
   4. "Professor Satchafunkilus" – 4:47
   5. "Revelation" – 5:57
   6. "Come On Baby" – 5:49
   7. "Out of the Sunrise" – 5:43
   8. "Diddle-Y-A-Doo-Dat" – 4:16
   9. "Asik Veysel" – 7:42
  10. "Andalusia" – 6:51

And now, the most hotly anticipated album of the last couple days since tommydski told us it existed

Monroe Mustang - Monroe Mustang, the Imaginary Band, Regretfully Declines

Quote
From Norman, Oklahoma, via Austin, Texas, Monroe Mustang takes a long time to do anything. Their new album, Monroe Mustang, The Imaginary Band, Regretfully Declines, is the product of home recording sessions spanning more than a decade. The material, recorded onto sticky tape and rust, then converted into ones and zeroes, has been reworked, lost, found, and duct-taped back together to intoxicating effect. The layers of grit and grime add a hazy dreamlike quality to timeless songs with the strange familiarity of a lost recording from a band that time forgot.

Flight of the Conchords - s/t
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?ngjxlemxmtn

Quote
AMG: Taking the torch from Tenacious D and then taking 14 songs from the first season of their HBO series (plus a 15-second outro), Flight of the Conchords' first full-length release for Sub Pop is a strong serving of songs from the dynamic deadpan duo. Unfortunately, since the show included a few songs per episode, 11 of the songs didn't make it past the cutting-room floor, and gems like "If You're Into It," "I'm Not Crying," and "Sello Tape" got the axe, along with the character dedications and motivations "Cheer Up, Murray," "Song for Sally," and "Bret, You Got It Going On." It's forgivable, though; a double-disc set of every song would have been overkill, and most of the favorites make the cut on the CD. Fans still get the neo-soul ballad "The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room)," the hip-hop attempt "Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymnocerous," the psychedelic acid trip "Prince of Parties," the dancehall anthem "Boom," and the French pop lullaby "Foux du Fafa." While New Zealander dry humor and matter-of-fact delivery are huge parts of the duo's allure, their adherence to their own style within a variety of genres is the icing on the cake, and to quote Bret's reaction to the stranger who is denied while trying to sell a cake at a pawn shop, "It's a beautiful cake." With each song, they expand their range, paying homage with the strictest attention to details only music geeks will appreciate, be it the Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" instrumentation in "Think About It," the Radiohead "Fitter Happier" vocal impersonations in "Robot," the Pet Shop Boys "West End Girls" similarities in "Inner City Pressure," or the many, many faces of David Bowie in "Bowie." Versatility is their strength, and they show it off well. If they weren't great songwriters, lines like "Sometimes my lyrics are sexist/But you lovely bitches and hoes should know I'm trying to correct this" and "The manager Bevin tries to abuse me/Hey man, I just want some Muesli" might provide short-term laughs, but the music is clever and catchy enough to give it merit for repeated listens. Buy the DVD first to get the full story and then pick this up for road trip singalongs.

You are retarded if you honestly believe that's real. It's the same re-named collection of "Velveteen" with "I Will Possess Your Heart" thrown in that's been floating around for over a month now.

EDIT: Here's "Cath..."

The file appears to be fine. Mediafire says 22 people downloaded it and I just downloaded it and unpacked it myself to check and it worked fine. You should probably give the download another try. I can re-upload it for you, but that probably won't be till Saturday.

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford OST

From AMG:
Quote
Nick Cave is no stranger to writing cinematic scores; this is his fourth, and his second with Bad Seed and Grinderman bandmate Warren Ellis. Their last effort was the soundtrack to an actual Australian western, the brutal yet wonderful Proposition; the screenplay was actually written by Cave. It was a wide-ranging soundtrack, going from strange, eerie, spacious moments to those of great drama and tension. It featured some fearsome musical excess as well as skeletal contemplative ones. The music here is drenched in as much dread, shadow, and darkness as its predecessor, but it's a much more narrative and sophisticated undertaking. The theme, "Rather Lovely Thing," circles its way through the film and enters and exits with regularity, anchoring the viewer, and here, of course, the listener, though it's less apparent. Other cues are beautifully and simply named: "Movin' On," "What Must Be Done," "Last Ride Back to KC," "Destined for Great Things," and the rest.

The use of violin, electric guitars, piano, a second violin, viola, bass, some drums and percussion, celeste, cello, and other sundry items are employed very specifically — check the use of all the strings (though not a string orchestra or string section; this isn't a Danny Elfman score) in "The Money Train," where foreboding, loss, drama, and tension all vie for attention, and the notion of a climactic consequence is firmly in the mind of the listener. It is answered by a lone piano, miked very closely, almost from the inside, as strings answer underscoring the conclusion of what must be done to get rid of James. The determinate nature of the music is not in any way steely; it's almost sad, as if these men know that a genuine archetype, a folk hero, needs to go die in order for America itself to become a tamer, more ordered place, a place where emotions have no place in structure, and something like steely determination is a more calculated and cold undertaking. The way Ellis and Gerard McCain order their stringed instruments is almost painterly. The sense of history is at play in the emotional content of the music rather than around it. Just before the score ends, there is one of the most evocative tracks, simple and effective, called "Counting the Stars." Miked so closely the listener can hear the pianist's feet on the pedals, it lasts only a minute-and-twenty seconds, but in it one can feel what has transpired, what cannot be undone, and how it was done. The music doesn't serve to do anything but look out at a new sonic terrain that reflects the character of the land itself; it is at once more alien and more ghostly and more suspect in spite of its tenderness, because it makes room for and tolerates just such a melody. This is Cave's most extraordinary achievement as a composer of film music thus far. It's all come together here between him and Ellis, two very natural collaborators. This music is certainly cinematic, but despite its vast reach, it is constructed with relative simplicity and an almost taut sparseness that makes it stand as a work on its own.

It's a travesty that this wasn't nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Score last year. It's one of my favorite albums of the year, of any genre.

have expired.  Someone re-up them please?

In exchange, I present...

A Hawk And A Hacksaw And The Hun Hangár - s/t

From AMG:
Quote
A Hawk and a Hacksaw and the Hun Hangar Ensemble is the album on which Jeremy Barnes finally and emphatically distances himself from the remnants of the Elephant 6 scene he had been part of as drummer for Neutral Milk Hotel: this brief, entirely instrumental album has nothing to do with indie rock in any way, shape or form. Barnes and his fellow multi-instrumentalist Heather Trost moved to Budapest, Hungary in 2006 to more fully immerse themselves in their beloved Eastern European folk music; recorded in Hungary with local musicians the Hun Hangar Ensemble (reedsman Bela Agoston, bassist and accordionist Zsolt Kurtosi, trumpeter and violinist Ferenc Kovacs, and cimbalom player Balazs Unger), this eight-track album combines traditional Balkan tunes (given generic descriptive titles like "Serbian Cocek," "Romanian Hora and Bulgar" and "Oriental Hora") with a handful of Barnes/Trost originals like the sweeping, majestic "Zozobra." Unlike Beirut's Gulag Orkestar (to which Barnes and Trost contributed enormously), this is not indie pop music taking the trappings of Eastern European folk music, but the thing itself, presented in a fashion that makes it potentially accessible to an audience that might otherwise not find room in its listening day for a track like "Vajdaszentivány," a dazzling medley of Hungarian folk tunes played on the hammered dulcimer-like cimbalom. Those expecting the training wheels that Gulag Orkestar (or even A Hawk and a Hacksaw's three earlier, somewhat more pop-oriented, albums) provided may find A Hawk and a Hacksaw and the Hun Hangar Ensemble a challenging listen at first, but the sheer joy of these performances should make them accessible to all but the most musically isolationist and/or accordion-phobic. The first pressing of the CD includes a bonus DVD, An Introduction to A Hawk and a Hacksaw, that combines material from the recording sessions for this album with older live material shot in Barnes' hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Bowery Electric - S/T

AMG
Quote
Bowery Electric's debut full-length album is a droning, atmospheric affair. Guitars, drums, and hushed vocals suggest a definite Slowdive influence, but Bowery Electric approaches the shoegazer sound with more moodiness, tension, and space rock ethics. "Next to Nothing" and "Long Way Down" almost sound like Just for a Day-era Slowdive letting off steam; the distorted guitars and gentle drums of both tracks never sound lush, as there's an undercurrent of confusion and discomfort in the way the instruments mix. The music brings to mind imagery of rainy days or starless nights. There's not really a stab at traditional song structure with any of the tracks. "Another Road" sees vocalist Martha Schwendener nearly speaking her vocals, and she sounds quite caught up in the dreamy music that surrounds her. Neither Schwendener nor Lawrence Chandler seem to care if their vocals are audible or understood; their voices simply become additional instruments, as is common with shoegazer music. There are ample pace changes to be found throughout the album's nine tracks. "Over and Over" is a slow-burning, quiet number, which is immediately followed by the tense, dark "Deep Sky Objects." "Deep Sky Objects" sounds more than a bit like a Joy Division song, if not for the dreamy, processed vocals. Bowery Electric works equally well with short, moody song fragments (on "Sounds in Motion" and "Over and Over") as with grand, drawn-out movements (on "Next to Nothing" and "Slow Thrills"). "Drift Away" is an ambient joy. It's quite an achievement that the album, at over 50 minutes, never gets boring or even less than compelling, even though there's not much variation in mood from track to track and within individual songs. Despite the fact that the band is the sum of its influences, the album is quite fresh and interesting throughout. Bowery Electric is an extremely accomplished, beautifully moody debut.

I think what Anyways did is okay as long as they PM the request. The whole point of the no requests rule is just to keep the thread from being cluttered.

No, dudes, I have this plan of making the rules more and more ridiculous and oversized at the beginning of each page. It'll be great 'laugh out loud' material, I wasn't shouting at Anyways. What he did was cool.

I'm looking forward to rules like, say, for example...
