Dear kid who uploaded the mogwai album:

I know we should be nice to people in this thread, but it would be lovely if you could, uh, actually put the artist and the name of the album you are posting. I am sure there is somebody here who hasn't already seen the cover art. I mean, just a thought. It's courteous.

Thanks,
Sean

Right-click, image properties. Google the file name ("The Hawk Is Howling") and oh, Mogwai appears? Guess it's the new Mogwai album.

(Not that the name shouldn't have been in the post to begin with, but it's not like it was terribly indecipherable.)

Can someone recommend me some really harrowing, dramatic choir? Preferably classical?

I s'pose you've already heard this?

Yes and although it is very harrowing, dramatic and a most excellent piece of music, that's not what I'm looking for.

without much to go on, i find kitka's music gorgeous and haunting. they do contemporary renditions of traditional bulgarian folk songs. i'm not at home and can't do a proper upload, so i took this from a blog search. if you can find the ruskalka cycle - that album gives me chills. if this in the right direction i can upload it.

Get Mozart's Requiem

I don't know if I have the full thing, but here is a very famous piece from it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jankGYXDSo

it is easily found on torrents I think.  may be on here too.

The least you could have done was post the rules.

Quote
Rules:

No hot-linking images or albums. You can re-host images at http://imageshack.us.

Ensure your tags are correct and that you have specified both Artist/Album in your post.

Upload your files in either a .zip or a .rar archive to mediaf!re.com, in multiple parts if the album is over 100mbs. The reason for this is that we know mediaf!re is safe and efficient and allows multiple downloads. The ads on other sites, such as Sendspace, are known to contain viruses on the page. Get yourself checked out.

Post your link using code tags. It's the # icon above the policeman emoticon. This prevents the links from being traced back to the forums, lowering the chance that the wrong people notice the thread, potentially threatening Jeph with legal action.

Also, please do NOT request albums.

Repost the rules at the top of each new page.

some down home lovin'

The Black Keys - Rubber Factory

Quote
Though the Black Keys resemble post-punk garage revivalists like the White Stripes, and are likely to raise an eyebrow among old-school blues purists, the duo packs a serious blues punch. The minimal sound of RUBBER FACTORY moves on the rickety ...    Full Descriptionskeleton of Dan Auerbach's fuzzed-out guitar and Patrick Carney's no-frills drumming, and stays true to the raw, electric blues for which the Fat Possum label (the Black Keys' home) is rightfully famous.

RUBBER FACTORY bears the ghosts of Fat Possum artists like Junior Kimbrough and CeDell Davis, and through them, naturally, electric pioneers like Muddy Waters. The Keys mine this tradition admirably, with a sincere approach to the blues idiom bolstered by Auerbach's soulful vocals and the duo's stripped-down, juke-joint sound. But the Keys are not merely paying homage. Instead, they layer funky grooves ("The Desperate Man"), NUGGETS-inspired grunge ("10 A.M. Automatic"), a love of 1970s hard rock ("Grown So Ugly"), and the influence of contemporary indie rock (the acoustic "The Lengths") on their blues structures. In doing so, they achieve a ragged hybrid that stays fiercely true to the roots of blues, while updating the genre for younger generations.

Black Stone Cherry - Folklore and Superstition

Quote
Kentucky rockers Black Stone Cherry are not afraid of their country roots. While Daniels-soaked rock-&-roll is nothing new, it's the rare band that finds new (back dirt) roads to take it down. FOLKLORE AND SUPERSTITION is the work of a band ...    Full Descriptionbursting with enthusiasm about having discovered the way to make the traditional music their own. A healthy helping of metal muscle and sinewy, snakebit guitar solos push songs like album-opener "Blind Man" and the Dixie-fried blues-rocker "Soulcreek" into the swamps.

Alabama Thunderpussy - Staring at the Divine

Quote
Richmond, Virginia's Alabama Thunderpussy deliver ten ass-kickin' shots of 'moonshine metal' on their Relapse debut. With the one-two punch of low-end, stoner rock rumble and twin-guitar harmonies inspired by Thin Lizzy and Judas Priest, and the do-it-yourself work ethic of their punk rock roots.

I really like this (and it is very akin to Wolf Parade). The mixing could be better (I can barely hear the vocals a lot of times when the instruments are already too loud, and it's weird that the bass tends to drown out the guitar but that's not necessarily a problem) but it is very well written and performed.

Yeah, I'm hardly a professional when it comes to mixing. I feel I did the best I knew how given the circumstances (it was all recorded in a basement onto 8 track).
Also, thanks to everyone who's enjoying it. It's really great to get feedback from people I don't know in an immediate sort of way, whether it be positive or constructive.

Oneida is a band that I have always heard a lot about, but never really bothered to check out. I downloaded their newest album Preteen Weaponry the other day, and I wish I had listened to this band a lot sooner!

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?ombkfhizytc
Quote from: Allmusic
Matched by some astonishing live shows in summer 2008 that showed the band's live power had reached a newly obsessive, maniacal height, Oneida's Preteen Weaponry, the first in a planned sequence of three albums, conveys a strong taste of that experience across its three parts, all named after the album itself. Drawing as ever on many familiar, powerful touchstones ranging from classic Krautrock trance-and-surge and acid rock obsessiveness to the kind of focused aggression familiar in band like Loop, Lightning Bolt, and any number of their compatriots and followers, the band creates a thick, rumbling series of pieces that leave much room for delicate touches amid the chaos. On the first part there's a serene, softly descending keyboard sequence that sits up front in the mix even while the drumming in particular amps up into sheer -- but never unfocused -- frenzy. This contrasts almost completely with the slower steady rumble of the second part, beginning with vast swells of feedback Michael Rother would be proud of before settling into an ominous march forward, enveloping and doomy in impact, that gets only more intense with the addition of further guitars and drones. The final part finds a midpoint of sorts between the two, with quick, skittering drumming matched by a series of drone and keyboard loops, rhythmic but not explicitly melodic, ending the album on a calmer but no less compelling note and promising quite a lot for the next two entries in the series.

I decided to work my way through their back catalog, so here is their album from 2006, it's called Happy New Year.

i guess i should have clarified; you should make sure the link doesn't require a password or if it does, you should know what the password is. so people can access the files.

Yeah I know, my bad. I posted that one in a hurry.

yeah, that's why it doesn't hurt to upload the links yourself instead of taking them from another site.

that was actually a thread rule, but it's not particularly clear from it's current phrasing. 'no hot-linking albums' also meant 'don't steal links'. really bad form.

Inspired by the posting of Chrome earlier.

Catherine Wheel - Ferment

Shoegazery-ness.
AMG:
Centered around re-recorded versions of four songs from the band's two Wilde Club singles and the seven minute lovelorn "Black Metallic" - which was referred to as the "Like a Hurricane" of the ‘90s - the deeply rich Ferment firmly established Catherine Wheel amongst the shoegaze contingent of the early ‘90s. The band would proceed to denounce the shoegaze tag, but it was a fitting one, at least with everything they released prior to 1993's harder edged Chrome.

EDIT:
Just uploaded this.

I feel that I should tell you that snowman is the greatest thing to happen to my ears in quite a while. I downloaded the horse, the rat, and the swan a few weeks back, and it was incredible, then I just now came back for the self titled album and it is currently blowing my mind. Not what I was expecting, in a great way.

i just saw mouth of the architect on tour with intronaut.

i've seen MOTA a few times and they always sound great live, but i had never seen or heard of intronaut, and maybe it was fact that i was high as a kite and a dozen beers deep, but they bored me until i thought my knees were going to break.

true story.

thanks for that storm of light!

Okkervil River - Sham Wedding   /   Shearwater - Hoax Funeral

Sorry guys, I fail at the internet and couldn't find a review. If you're familiar with either Shearwater or Okkervil river, give this a go - it's a bit lower-fi than their other stuff, but still definitely worth the listen.
