Er, no one's complaining about Marten's shirt, so why that reaction?

It's not that people are complaining about it, I just think we're obsessing over the wrong details. Then again, that's kind of what the internet's for so I guess I should just deal with it. Sorry.

I guess it's just that when nothing much happens in the comic (just a bit more of "am I happy? am I sad?" today) any detail whatever will serve as the catalyst for discussion.

Considering we've been analysing Marten's angst for... well, since I joined, at least, I'm happy to latch onto damn near anything else.

And thanks to everyone's archive-fu (though I'd found a few of them myself), I'm now convinced more than ever that Marten borrowed that shirt.

Just curious: has anyone actually been in Marten's situation, between Padma and Eliot?  That is to say, person B has a mad crush on person A, and then you went ahead and hooked up with person A?

...and, for that matter, person B could pound you into jelly?

Huh, now that I think about past experience, I think Person B is the one who has to watch their step. I mean, when two people wanna be with each other, how easy is it to just turn that off? For me it would be very difficult to just be like, "Welp, I'ma turn round and walk away now." But if Person B continues to make their feelings known, they can introduce guilt and tension into a new relationship that's still building trust. And that's a really shitty thing to do.

I have the perfect explanation to all of this! Marten is schizophrenic.
Schizophrenia does not work like that.

I guess it's just that when nothing much happens in the comic (just a bit more of "am I happy? am I sad?" today) any detail whatever will serve as the catalyst for discussion.
The latest strip is nicely drawn, but it essentially repeats the joke from 2060.

I'm pretty sure Jeph doesn't need to follow the forum to make sarky remarks about lots of words being expended on explaining how Marten feels. Jeph knows us all too well. You don't need to keep tasting the sea to know that it is wet and salty.

So, wait, in the course of ~700 strips, they've gone from having phones like that to this:

Does that mean a lot more time's passed than first appears, or is Jeph just not bothering? :)

That image made me realize Marten doesn't have Raven's number on his phone. I don't know why he'd need to call her but I also don't know why he'd call Penelope.

The answer to "how'd he get a new phone?" is so obvious that I'm surprised none of you got it.

Mom probably bought it for him when she came to visit. I bet she told him something about "I'm on Verizon now, and you've GOT to see my Veronica App!"

Veronica Vance? There's an app for that!

Tragic, since Raven could probably actually give him some good advice on having casual sex without DRAMA spawning. Girl seems to repel the stuff.

I guess Marten could be a jerk like Faye and have a nickname for Raven like "Boobs" or "Tits" or "(. Y .)" or something?

Hey there.  Long time lurker here.

I just had to get in on this and say I was a little worried there that Marten would panic and not call at all.  I was so impressed when not only did he bite the bullet and make that call...but he actually jumped right in there and said he had a great time!  How many guys would've just started off tentatively with a, "Hi there.  How are you?"  And kinda try and figure out what her vibe was.

I can honestly say as a female that NOTHING is worse than hearing from the guy you like after an awesome night and he just makes idle chit chat.  For Marten to just say right off the bat that he enjoyed being with her, is pretty freakin' awsome?!!!  Of course, he immediately fell apart afterwards, but maaaaan, that is some serious progress!  I'm so proud! *wipes happy tear*

Also, in panel five was he saying it was wonderful, or was he agreeing with Padma that it was wonderful?  He does say, "Yeah, it was <pause> it was wonderful."  Oh well, any way you slice it though 'wonderful' is a great word!  It falls into the romantic category of words (like lovely and beautiful).

I have no idea where this'll end up, but man am I ever rooting for these two! Even for a while.  I like Padma.  She funny, relaxed, and really straight forward...even if she's a bit ditzy sometimes...I'm cool with ditzy.

Actually, yes. My most recent relationship was pretty close to that. My new GF was still being pursued by her ex (stalked, more accurately: unwanted phone calls; slobbering comments in her FB gallery; general crap). Mind you, I didn't know about the jerk until after she and I hooked up, so there's that difference.

As for the pounding, why, he was but a wee thing. No worries.  8-)

COMIC

Now we can stop talking about Marten's shirt and instead talk about Faye's hair!

....

Anyway, it seems like it's been awhile since we've seen Dora.
And how the heck do you get apple pie in your hair while making it? I'm pretty messy in the kitchen, and I'm impressed with that one.

All I can think when I read this is "as good as the air freshener smells from a distance, Jeph, it's best not to sniff it directly."

Seriously... what?!  This one just came out of effing nowhere.

Also, she should probably just buzz the whole thing at this point - better than that... kind of... faux-fauxhawk-ey... thing.  Ew.  Maybe dye it, too...?

What with the hair and the frigged-up glasses he'll need a sec to recognize her.

How do you get pie onto the back of your head? Did she set it down on the floor to cool and then somehow fall precisely backwards onto it?  :psyduck:

Also, Jeph's not gonna be happy when he finds out he inadvertently referenced TVTropes :|

Slips on something (potholder?) on floor while carrying pie.

"ACK!" reaction, throwing hands into the air, pie flies into air.

I'm reminded of why Faye is living with Marten in the first place...

Betcha Tai will approve of Faye's new hairdo.  in fact, come to think of it, Tai might have a bit of a secret thing for Faye given how she's hit on Faye when she's been drunk.

Tai already had a thing for Faye...now she's going to be foaming at the mouth.

Dora is an indication of what Tai may do...haha. Om nom.

Oddly, I like Faye a little bit more now. She's not so full of herself that she would try to wear a hat or something.

I predict Faye will be fending off very interested women for some time. Haha.

Dora is Tai's ideal. Faye's just really warm.
Lord, I hope the apartment's still there.

Oh, I'm sure Angus likes it. It's Faye's hair after all. Also a trip to that store offering fashionably corrected vision may be coming?

He may cancel their dinner reservations (if any) for the next two weeks though.

it looks like an anti-mullet, buzzed short everywhere but the top.

I think it's called an undercut.

Also, that's my hair!  Boy, do I feel special.

I'm shocked there aren't any jokes about Dora hankering for some warm apple pie...

I guess it's a good thing you're around to raise the tone of the thread.
