Algernon:
Ducktails - The Flower Lane (2013)

Samples: The Flower Lane, Letter of Intent

The latest offering from Ducktails, the side project of Real Estate guitarist and generally chill dude Matt Mondanile.  Until now, Ducktails has been a lo-fi solo project, but The Flower Lane features some very slick production and a full backing band courtesy of Big Troubles along with lots of exciting guests, including Cults indie girl Madeline Follin, synth wizard Daniel Lopatin (of Oneohtrix Point Never and Ford & Lopatin) and his frequent collaborator Joel Ford, and Real Estate bud Martin Courtney.

The newfound pop songwriting chops that Mondanile displayed on his last album, 2011’s Ducktails III: Arcade Dynamics, are back in full force here.  Matty-boy seems more confident than ever, adding punchy piano and futuristic synths to the mix in addition to his usual effortlessly lovely guitar work and the ever-competent musicianship of his new backing band.  The Real Estate connection is still readily apparent, but these new flourishes and an occasional 80’s soft-rock vibe help distinguish the tunes of his newest effort from those of his day job with the Real Estate boys.

Some good shit.

Follow link below to purchase album. Highly enjoyable, as sad as it is to seem Matt leave the Woodsist label. Looks like they might even have some of the 1st pressing left. First 300 copies made in 180 gram (one time only at this quality) vinyl hand made, letter pressed cover and insert. Following copies will be pressed at 150.

so many cats:
Has any one else had M/F tell them to go buy the album instead lately? Many of the things on this page give this message to me. Is that a U.S. thing, an M/F crackdown thing, or a me thing?

Algernon:
I think it's that M/F is cracking down pretty hard, unfortunately.
