Independence weekend triple feature!

First off, Justice League: War. Not as good as the old DC animations, they kept trying to make it really edgy and gritty. I did enjoy Wonder Woman, really I enjoyed everyone but Cyborg and Green Lantern in it.

Second, Guardians of Gahool. Not much to the story, mainly high fantasy but they're owls, but the animation was really good.

And finally, Inside Out. It didn't make me cry, but it was still really good. Though the short before it was pretty week (my fiance cried during it)

I just watched Dope and it was amazing. A plus acting all around, and the credit roll was amazing. My only frame of reference for Shameik Moore was that awful Incredible Crew show that was on Cartoon network, but he was really good in this movie.

Rewatched Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Not only is it a better movie than I remember it being, it actually has a fucking amazing opening scene.

Watched Boyz N The Hood. What a fucking movie that is. We were both transfixed for its entire runtime. Great characters, amazing performances, gritty, real, moving. What a film.

It really is, and I did enjoy it, although I can't see myself watching any more of his stuff, but I watched that one for its sheer brutality.

Last night my girlfriend and I watched Teen Wolf.

It's terrible. And not in a fun way. It's just a profoundly strange movie, with a couple of good bits, but its pacing is mental. Also it has that alarming thing that so many 80s movies do in which there's no actual homophobia, just some casual homophobia, in that they just use the word 'fag' without a second thought.

Because as far as I can tell, in the 80s it was just an accepted word for referring to homosexuals, and they don't actually say anything bad about homosexuality.

So I know this isnt a movie but I just went to the Kennedy Center and saw "The Book of Mormon."  It is fucking amazing!  Written by the creators of South Park and the guy who composed "Let it go" from frozen.  It has won many awards!  Nothing is safe nor sacred.  :-P
Here's them at the tony awards doing the first song.

If you get a chance go see it but its best to go in knowing nothing (my video is not a spoiler at all).

so I went to see PIXELS.

it's good. it is entertaining.

check your logical thought at the door, and revert to being an 8th grader in the 80s...
and it'll be the best movie ever.

I enjoyed it, and consider it worth the admission price.

Yeah, those movies can surprise you on repeat viewings, maybe because by then you've gotten the irritation and frustration out of your system and can therefore better enjoy the fun stuff :o

We really wanted to see Book of Mormon in NYC but couldn't, so we saw Kinky Boots instead. That was fun as hell, but, still... next time :)

After watching Fury Road I decided to sit down and actually watch all the other movies. I watched the first one awhile ago and I just got the copy of the 2nd and 3rd movies on the same disc.

Mad Max 2/The Roadwarrior is definitely the second best movie in the series. Everything just works and it still holds up real good.
Beyond Thunderdome is a little weirder. The plot just sort of meanders for awhile until Max meets up with the crazy kids. Overall I'll list it as the 3rd best of the 4.

I feel like the three movies have nothing to do with each other. The first is a revenge movie in a sort of post-apocalyptic world, then the second one is full on post-apocalyptic and crazy, being pretty much all driving around. Then there's the third one where I don't know what the fuck is going on.

Yeah, they're very loosely connected. Like I said before, the first movie didn't even feel like it was a post apocalyptic world. But by the second movie everything had gone to shit. The third one felt like, "Everything is awful, but eh, whatcha gonna do?" and the fourth made it seem like it has been going on for awhile.

Just saw The DUFF! Likeable highschool romantic comedy with good script and a good cast. It kinda feels incomplete, but the humour's good and both Amell and Whitman are really just so damned... likeable... and the flaws are more than overshadowed by their chemistry.

I plan on seeing it, but it's still way too fucking expensive, even though it's been out for years.

My ex gave me the soundtrack years ago and I still haven't listened to it because I don't want to spoil it for myself.

Saw Rogue Nation tonight. I gotta say, though I hate the title and am also sick of hearing Swedish in every goddamn' action movie, it was my favourite movie so far in the series and a hundred times better than Ghost Protocol. Perfectly paced, well-directed, good cinematography, fairly solid performance from the cast, good villains, decent twists, the right amount of humor and it nailed the best aspects of the MI movies. I was a little worried it would mostly be a vehicle for showcasing Cruise's abs and Rebecca Ferguson's legs but the script mostly did the actors justice and they returned the favor. Ferguson is one of my longest-lasting celebrity crushes and this was the first role and movie of hers that I've really liked. There were some moments when I was like WHY but that just comes with package I reckon :o

Anyway, solid action flick, if you like those I can recommend it. As always, don't pay full price if you can avoid it.

Finally saw Birdman. I had no idea what it was about, and now that I do I know why all my actor friends freaked the fuck out when they saw it in theatres.

It's a good movie, the acting was amazing. But the ending was fairly predictable.

Birdman is a masterpiece.

Sometimes a predictable ending is better than a shitty one, and I'm glad that people other than me disagree with the accepted notion of what happens. And what's more, I feel like that film has a clutch of performances that are so powerful (basically everyone except Emma Stone doing what she does in every fucking movie) that the story is bordering on irrelevant to enjoying the movie.

Just saw Straight Outta Compton. I'd heard good things, but holy shit, I can't recommend this movie enough. Great acting overall, and I was surprised that Ice Cube's son is a really good actor. I figured it was almost stunt casting (to have Ice Cube's son play Ice Cube) and maybe it was, but god damn, he nailed both the acting and rapping aspects of the role. It's two and a half hours but the timeline is so smooth (it takes place over a little less than a decade, always moving forward with no major jumps) that it doesn't feel like it.

I just watched the first Mad Max, and I find it weird how far it's come. I don't remember them telling us the world ever really ended, it mostly looks like they live out in the middle of nowhere instead of a post apocalyptic landscape.
The original Mad Max isn't post-apocalyptic at all, merely a ten-minutes-into-the-future exaggerated crapsack version of late '70s Australia. It isn't until Road Warrior (AKA Mad Max 2) that a global war over oil resources is introduced as background. I have not yet seen Mad Max: Fury Road, but of the other three films, the first is my favourite because it is lower-key and more grounded in reality.

Pitch Perfect 2: fun, simple, decent music, def. feelgood. Brittany Snow, Anna Kendricks and Elizabeth Banks in the same movie and obv I haven't grown out of my celeb crushes because I was like *SQUEE*. Well, a little. Unfortunately, this one is musically disappointing and actually racist. Not like with a wink and a nudge, just dumb--like it was written by lazy racist dudes pandering to a dumb audience. I enjoy comedy that riffs off of racial and ethnic issues when it's done well, but this was offensive on another level because it was lazy and dumb. It's more annoying now than it was in the first movie. I loved the scenes with Keegan-Michael Key though. Very disappointed by how very little screen-time Pentatonix got. Barely a little more than the birthday boy in the first scene :o

I just watched the new version/prequel of The Thing and Kingsman: The Secret service

The Thing is a nice homage to the original movie, though it pretty much follows it note for note. It's nice to see all the little details the set up for the original movie, like the two headed body, the dogs, and the guy that took his own life.

Kingsman was a nice subversion of the spy thriller, with Mark Millar's usual crass humor. Sofia Boutella definitely steals the show as Samuel L. Jackson's right hand henchmen Gazelle

Just saw Mortdecai.

What a turd.
And I couldn't help get the feeling that it would've been a decent movie if it was in some other filmmaker's hands, and that actually made it worse to watch.

Just got back from Crimson Peak. I liked it, haven't seen a good gothic ghost tale in a long time.
