Detachable Felix:
Maybe I've just got different tastes, but there's a fairly long drum solo from Deep Purple's Live In Europe album that's amazing.

Thrillho:
I don't (necessarily) have an issue with a drum solo in the middle of a song, provided it's not stupidly long (Led Zeppelin I'm looking at you). Drum solos as a song in their own right? No way.

Literally all bands that have 'x solo' on their setlists need to fucking stop it. Metallica used to give Jason Newsted a bass solo. BASS SOLO PEOPLE. A BASS BY ITSELF. Who the fuck goes to see Metallica and thinks 'you know what this gig needs? A bass solo.'

BeoPuppy:
True, but then, those gigs are usually hours and hours and hours long. Why not give everyone a little space. And why not give the rest of the band a ... rest. Besides, visually, Newsted was pretty awesome when soloing.

(Finally, a bit of music I know something about!)

Thrillho:
Then play two hours with an interval in the middle, or 90 minutes each side. And you must've seen a different gig to me cause the one I saw (on DVD admittedly) he was sat down on the stage playing his solo and the rest of the band offstage.
