Do student loans work differently in the US? Over here you barely pay anything back.

Yeah. I have my loans deferred until the end of the year because I make so little, but the interest makes it continue to grow :psyduck:

In the US, you have to start paying back at a particular, quite immediate, point regardless of whether you can afford it. In the UK, you pay a percentage of your income over a specified point, so if you never earn anything you never pay anything back.

US students are fucked. It seems a rather unfair, stupid, system.

Probably fairer on the country, though. I really do wonder if in ten years' time there is going to be a huge black hole where all of our student loans should have come back and just haven't.
