Unless you're the Dougler, who puts socks on the doorknob because it's a great place to dry them.  Or Cal, who doesn't wear any socks.

This.  I never thought it odd, it was the norm at my college and most any other college I've heard of; it's an article of clothing that has no reason whatsoever to be on a doorknob, so it can't be mistaken for anything else.

Of course, a pair of panties hanging on a doorknob is self-explanatory...

By the time the panties come off, I don't think most people would be thinking "hey, now's a good time to interrupt this to put at article of clothing on the doorknob."

Also, comic 2056 - this isn't the first we've seen of Hannelore's voyeuristic streak.
