WCDT: 2161-2165 (9-13 April 2012) QC: Back To Earth
DSL:
Hanners, darlin', you're getting old. You used to be able to handle these things.
I mean, you're what, now? 23?
Damn kids.

--- Quote from: sine-out on 10 Apr 2012, 06:09 ---It probably has something to do with the fact that while Stations computing power is substantial (in fact, I'd go as far as to assume that any computer in the QC verse that runs an AI is probably fairly powerful compared to what we have irl), it's still a conventional computer.
If AI's required a quantum computer to work, it's much more likely that the task could be computed.

Possibly. I'm not up to speed with what quantum computers can do. The tasks that they can do (integer factorization being the best known example) they do unbelievably fast (in comparison to a conventional computer). But how many tasks have been successfully ported to a quantum computer? A former student of mine has written a textbook on quantum computing. Last time I asked him, he told me that the experts couldn't agree on whether the number of (essentially different) existing quantum computer programs was two or three...
Mr_Rose:
Theoretically, a quantum computer can do anything a regular one can; the problem is coming up with stuff that only quantum computers can do. And one of those things is compute large factorials in less time than the estimated remaining lifespan of the universe.
But then, since the only thing regular computers can do is add numbers very fast, that's already more than twice as awesome.
LordVaughn:
I dunno why, but I mostly laughed uncontrollably at Station's face upon scrolling down to the third panel. Partly because I expected the question to reveal Marigold and Francis sitting beside each other with frazzled hair and blushing faces, still staring at each other. Then again, it was odd of me to assume they have stopped making out.

I have laughed at Jeph's strips before. I will likely laugh at Jeph's strips in the future.
But this one...
