This One

I remember back when I first discovered QC (after this comic had been made and posted) and I saw this one it confused the living hell out of me as to why they all had mustaches. Well I've been doing an archive binge while I've been underway and I just came across it again and still can't make heads or tails of it. Did Jeph ever mention why they had mustaches or what was going on that inspired it?

The mustaches were just a gag that Jeph threw in because the comic posted on Cinco de Mayo.

There's no deeper meaning or significance than that.

Akronnick, I can think of no more appropriate steed for a Knight Of The Dickbroom than a foul-mouthed, perpetually shouting, lust-crazed bird with a scrotum hanging from its chin and a distinctive cry of "Gobble gobble gobble".   --Tergon

My first thought was an April Fools post date, but Cinco de Mayo makes sense too.

You know, I've read that comic numerous times, and didn't really notice the mustaches til you brought it up.  That probably means that I need to update my glasses prescription.

To add confusion, Jeph said
