(click to show/hide)The whole Starkiller-base-can-destroy-planets-from-very-far-away thing.  I already knew about it from some spoilers and rumors, but I assumed it would be some kind of hyperspace weapon.  Instead, it fires a laser, which travels through ordinary space, somehow crosses through the system where Maz Kanata's planet is (are they in the same system?  Probably not, but it sure felt like it), and destroys another planet--wait, was that Coruscant?  A planet with a population of ONE TRILLION?  And now it's just gone?  Or was it a different planet?  Not only was that unclear, but it didn't have much weight to it.  Less than the destruction of Alderaan, even.  At least that got a reaction from Leia when it happened.  This felt flat, and with the sense of scale and distance handwaved away--almost the same problem happening with NuTrek's warp-speed transporter technology.  I just hope they don't build a second base for Episode IX...

Big ol' spoiler

(click to show/hide)That was NOT Coruscant. It was Hosnian Prime, the capital of the New Republic. You only very briefly hear it but basically they say 'target the Hosnian system'. Like Coruscant, however, Hosnian Prime is a planet-wide city. Hence the (probably intentional?) confusion.

(click to show/hide)Gotcha.  Must've missed that line, but Wookieepedia cleared things up for me later.  I guess the New Republic hasn't won back Coruscant from the remains of the Empire, or they just use a different capital.  Still bothered by the lack of scale, but I should have learned from Star Trek that J. J. Abrams just doesn't understand how big space is.
Also, I know it's way early, but I had some questions about Episode VIII: (click to show/hide)Since TFA bore some similarities to the first Star Wars, I'm guessing VIII will mirror ESB a little (while hopefully branching off on its own).  So with Rey taking the role of Luke, off training to be a Jedi with the actual Luke, does that leave Poe and Finn as our Han and Leia equivalents?  Perhaps separated from the rest of the Resistance for some reason, hotshot pilot with his co-pilot/gunner on a secret mission, could there be a budding romance there?  There did seem to be a lingering look or two between them after they reunited in TFA, mostly from Poe ("Keep the jacket," he said, thinking of ways to remove it later...), and even if VIII picks up some weeks/months after VII, surely Finn needs someone to help nurse him back to health.  I know, Disney would never allow it, and they'll never be more than Space Bros, but I can't be the only one who sees Something More happening between them.  Right?  I hereby dub this the Good Ship Puffin.

Edguy:
(click to show/hide)Soo.. was it cleared out that Finn isn't force sensitive? I thought they said he was during promotion, and thought the first half of the film that both he and Rey would be Jedi. Didn't seem that way towards the end tho..

Method of Madness:
(click to show/hide)What they say during promotion doesn't really matter, does it? We haven't had any indication that he is yet (other than activating a light saber?), but that doesn't mean we won't find out in VIII and IX that he is.

jwhouk:
17 out of the last 20 posts - all have spoilers.
