They both seem to have varying levels of attraction to each other but have no idea how to express it in any other way. In any case, Dale antagonizes her. She reacts viciously.
And now you're picturing that special episode of QC Babies where the normally laid back Dale just won't stop pulling little Marigold's hair! Can the QC Babies solve this dire mystery by nap time?!

Can she rock a bikini better than the original owner? check
Can she onehit a level 70 rogue? check

/ / /

Dale has gone out of his way to seek out and antagonize Marigold. As others have pointed out, his entire approach has been basically an immature type of flirting: the equivalent of yanking ponytails and then expecting the girl to like him. Maybe that was appropriate at twelve but not so much as adults. And, of course, Marigold has now had a fling with the Orbital Scientist, so it's not like she is desperate to jump at any random dude that shows interest.

Has Marigold ever asked Dale to stop following her in-game, or to stop teasing her, or indeed done anything at all to indicate that she doesn't want him to "stalk" her? I don't think I see it as stalking, I see it as two people making fun of each other, and isn't that how Faye and Angus got together in the first place? If Marigold says "stop it, I don't like you and please leave me alone" and Dale continues, then I'd see it as an issue. At the moment, I don't see a problem.

I've forwarded today's comic to a friend who works at Blizzard, and she was highly amused.

As to my opinion, it's a funny comic, but Dale and Marigold are both being butts and I do hope to see some progression in their interactions soon.

Err, I fail to see even the slightest, faintest hint of stalking anywhere.

Dale doesnt search for Marigold actively.

All he does is play the game the way its expected to be played.

You ARE supposed to attack the other party in WoW. If you're Alliance, you battle Horde, if you're Horde, you battle Alliance.

He might be...but he might be getting delayed between stalks, by her repeating killing his character (I dunno, I have no idea how respawn works in Warcraft). But it seems to be a friendly comraderie thing with him, at least as far as I can tell. That's how I'd act if it were me...

but Dale and Marigold are both being butts and I do hope to see some progression in their interactions soon.

I dunno...I think Dale is going about it the right way. If that were me and one of my friends, we'd be stalking each other and beating the fuck out of each other in-game, as often as we could, and probably laughing our asses off at it. Marigold's just taking the Horde/Alliance thing way too seriously. It's not friggen Hatfield/McCoy, jeez...

Of course he does, but thats still just playing the game.

If you dont like PvP in WoW, you can play on PvE servers.

Playing PvP servers means you know and want the possibility to be attacked by the other faction.

And of course its getting personal. Thats practically always the case.

I repeat: as long as Dale doesnt stalk Marigold in reallife, there is no stalking.

[Hi. New to forums, long time fan, lurked a while.  This weeks strip forced me from shadows. HUGE Marigold fan; relate maybe too well.  I have asperger syndrome; social interaction isn't natural to me and I have to work at it.  I also obsessively play World of Warcraft (WoW). I've been known to compare real life (RL) to WoW and sometimes can't turn off the geek.]

In my personal experience with WoW friendly antagonizing is a tactic to get someone to change factions.  It makes sense Marigold has more than one character because she plays so much and occasionally a single character can run out of things to do.  (BTW I saw today's comic as a Tauren Paladin - which could easily stun and violate a rogue.  Very pleased with it.   :-D )

I'd love to see Marigold's obsession spill over and cause genuine interest (Hanners or Momo).  Then see the newb experience WoW as a member of the Horde and find some level of dissatisfaction ~ leading to "experimentation" with the Alliance.  Ultimately a tolerance develops.

My first "characters" were all Tauren.  My heart is "For the Horde." However my personal interest in all things werewolf caused me to defect to the Alliance side with the release of Worgen.  Recently there have been some developments within the lore of the game (lore is a big selling-point for me) painting a picture of racial unrest within the Horde.  A new unbiased player to the game today, when presented with some lore, would only side Horde if they had an insatiable bloodlust.  I don't see Hanners enjoying the Horde races.  Even Momo would lean Alliance if not for Marigolds influence.

While I have been known to indulge in over-analysis with the best of them, I do think that was either a one-shot joke or before Marigold properly developed as a character.

EDIT: By which I mean before Jeph had worked out how he was going to write her.

What Jeph doesn't bother with or knows doesn't help tell the story he wants to tell, can't really stop us from having some fun with the topic. [and run it into the ground]

Martin - Human Paladin
Pint Size - Goblin Rogue
Faye - Dwarf Warrior - she had a tendency to hit things like Pintsize so .... [ see pintsize]
Dora - Forsaken Sorcerer
Hanners - Blood Elf Paladin [ keep an eye on MarBear] else Human Sorceress
Winslow - Gnome Cleric [engineer]
Sven -
Momo - Dranae Cleric
Angus -
Tai - Blood Elf Hunter
Raven - Troll Druid
Clinton - Gnome Wizard
Emily - Dranae Paladin ..... with a pack full of transformation items [totally random .. would definitely be carrying the party grenades ]
Yelling Bird - Goblin Merchant "I've got what you want!" **** **** **** [its the voice I hear it shouting in]

Draenei*
Clerics in WoW are called Priests.
WoW combines the Sorcerer and Wizard classes into one class called the Mage. So under your list, Clinton would be a Gnome Mage. Dora, on the other hand, I feel would be more likely to be a Warlock, which is more like a Summoner class.
I feel Faye would lean more towards the Monk class. Pandaren Monk maybe?
I would see Hanners more as a Priest than a Mage or Warlock.

And anyway, there's a case to be made that he's stalking her in QCRealLife. It's just that his attempts end with him falling into or over a trashcan. Probably "innocent" enough that it's up to Marigold to say, though.

Perhaps his stalking is similar to Hanners stalking Marten...a curiosity...

My thoughts are that Dale has a crush...but since he's a gamer, and is crushing on a gamer, those "normal" courting methods won't cut it. He's got to defeat her in battle if he'll ever have her love (that's probably what he's thinking, at least).

Thus, with the Angus-stare, the Faye-kini overload, and Dale's utter defeat, Marigold is hereby crowned: "Queen of the Danged."

To everyone saying Dale is stalking her, I don't see it that way. it's more of a "your arch-enemy who keeps popping up out of nowhere to harass you" type thing. She doesn't seem him as a legitimate threat, just an "enemy" from WoW. I hope this is getting towards those two possibly going out because Lord knows Marigold needs a man. (Space Guy be darned!)

I do remember the one time that he popped up, following her when she was walking home from 7-11 where he seemed to be either trying to intimidate her or creep her out. This could be something kind of cute, but unlike the thing with Angus there isn't exactly an admitted attraction, it seems more like Calvin and Susie much older.

Regards to the dale Marigold thing, I've always thought of their relationship as more of a friendly rivalry. Frienimies if you will. It might not seem that way due to Marigold's natural shyness at times, but I think if it was ever really making her uncomfortable, she'd say so or show some sign. Dale seems like a chill guy, and everyone else at the coffee shop (he's a fav customer after all) seems to have no issues with him, so I doubt were meant to think anything he is doing is not above board.

In regards to Marigolds hostility to him...I know from experience, it can be oddly gratifying to just wallow in how you're supposed to despise the opposing faction in wow.

Also, Alliance are scum, this is known.

I don't know whom this is more hairible for, but both are pretty freaked out.

Fluffiness is not a term I'd associate with red hair, though. Redheads have the fewest hair follicles of any hair color, by about 40,000 (blonds have the most), and it's the quantity and fineness of hair that makes it fluffy.
