I will be grateful for the hopefully inevitable thunderstorm to break the fug and the pressure, and I love rain anyway.

And here I always thought that UK folks used Farenheit when it was hot, and Celcius when it was cold.  Then again, it was 20 years ago when I lived there, so things probably have changed.

I have never heard of this before, and it sounds weird to me, even in the context of 2020 when either nothing is weird anymore or absolutely everything is.

When I was young, from time to time the media would deem it to be notable when the temperature topped 38, which is around 100 F. And below freezing is also a thing, I guess, because 0 celsius. So... people like nice round numbers, I guess? Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

You mean that Stephen Fry has mislead me?

Tova:
Wait, Stephen Fry said so? Why didn't you tell me?!  :-D

Still odd, though.

I still slip into Fahrenheit occasionally, but I think in Centigrade Celsius really.

I studied Engineering at uni in the 1960s, and in that field at that time there were huge shifts in the way units were used, and in some cases (electromagnetism in particular) there was a complete change of paradigm in the middle of the course.  So I learnt to use multiple sets of units equally, and sometimes simultaneously (e.g. thermometers with different units in the setup of a single experiment), which means that I became completely flexible.

This may be more common than you realise. Especially when it comes to women. Or, weirdly, depression, sometimes.
