Vaccines are great but even they aren't 100% protection and you still have a very small chance of catching the strains you're vaccinated for. Plus she works at a coffee shop and probably has tons of sick customers.
I used to work at a grocery store that targeted young hipsters and older hippies, and most of them bought the "doctors are working with big pharma to give you cancer and vaccines give kids autism" conspiracy crap, so I was getting sick every couple of weeks no matter what I did.
