See, I've never understood how that's called hazel. Hazel is a color. It's like golden brown. Yet people with actually hazel-colored eyes are just filled under “brown“

My eyes are hazel; but as a child I was small with rather pointed ears, and was told that I was actually a leprechaun, with eyes "the colour of an Irish bog"!

I've never understood why that's called hazel either, but for the opposite reason -- I've never even heard of hazel as a color except with reference to eyes, and even then it seems to mean different things depending on who's talking. So I'm kind of glad I was able to change the eye color on my driver's license to say "green" instead. Everybody knows what green is.
Method of Madness:
To me it always seemed that when people said they had hazel eyes, they made the distinction because they didn't want to have "brown" ones. I guess "hazel" sounds nicer?
