I think I'd like to play the next one. It looks like fun.

And henri: I don't even exist in that world! I can hug you!

Assuming the dark cloud of depression lifts off from me, I'm also in a GM'ing mood. I'd like the villagers to redeem themselves from Game 3.

Seriously, it was a massacre.

I actually hated Game 3, because to this day I've no fucking clue what happened. If that's the game I'm thinking of.

You might be thinking of game 4.

One day I'll find a way to make it forum friendlier. I'd do a more traditional game prior to that though, since those are fun and less of a headache.

Except like half of the people in the game voted to lynch me. There was absolute, overwhelming support to string me up. Ughhhh.

I don't think I'm playing these games anymore. People make the shittiest arguments, and out of seven games I've been a villager with no role for SIX of then. Fuck that.

Transgender Unicorn, not Transformer Unicron. Gosh.

also I think I know how I want to set up the game I'd DM if I get the chance - it'd be based on Geneforge.

I'm actually with Unicorn on this one. The reasoning is getting ridiculous at times, and people don't seem to be playing characters, or getting when other people are playing characters. I'm not mad at anyone I just don't think the games are working how they should be.

I've gotten put up for a lynching simply because of my name, so yeah, I do think that sometimes, the reasoning can get extremely thin.

Though as for being in character, I would just say that I always assume people are in character when playing (hence my suggestion to use OOC). And hopefully, people can assume I'm always in character, unless I outright state that I'm not.

Actually, one thing I will add to this is "the objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. Never get the two confused." As long as people are having fun, that's what should count.

I hope everyone doesn't leave, this was my first game and I plan to stay for more, but it'll be hard to have a game if everyone's gone :psyduck:

And Unicorn, you might as well just plan a game now and make the sign-up thread as soon as this one's done. Looking forward to it  :emotrex:

I've gotten put up for a lynching simply because of my name, so yeah, I do think that sometimes, the reasoning can get extremely thin.
well see, that's the inherent paradox of the game; early lynchings are always going to be a bit arbitrary & built on thin reasoning, but if you don't do it then the killers get to run free without danger. we gotta lynch someone, and at this point one person's just as good as any other.

my reasoning for picking on unicorn this time was extremely thin, but it was the only reason available at that point (the name thing was just for fun, as it fit in with the ferry tail setting).

last game i arbitrarily picked linds, just because it amused me to dredge up a grudge from way back in game 2 by way of the whole vampires vs werewolves thing. that backfired on me & i had to sit the game out, but it's the first time the villagers ever won.

the fact is that the only time the villagers have won is when we got aggressively paranoid right from the start. and i'm saying that as the guy who spent almost the entire thing on the sidelines.

bringing out the worst in people is half the fun of a game like this; you don't want to get lynched, then go on the offensive.

Warning - while you were typing 3 new replies have been posted. You may wish to review your post.

yeah, sitting out a game or two does help recharge the batteries a bit.

and if there's no hard feelings unicorn, i'd be more than happy to play your game next.

I've been sitting out due to lack of free time and since I've been feeling less interested in the game lately. Sounds like a number of you have hit that point as well for one reason or another. I think I'll probably join game 8 with those that don't need a break yet. Looking forward to it Unicorn!

I also would like to run another game so I could make it more like a D&D encounter and a little less mafia like, if people are interested.

Also, Unicorn, I can understand your frustration. I'm kind of wishing I gave everyone character names/code names, because I think it's a pretty stupid idea for people to attack others based on their names. (Which happens to TheEvilDog pretty much every game and has now happened to you.) People also hold grudges from previous games, which shouldn't even be a thing.

Also also, I'm sorry you haven't gotten more roles, but I used a random number generator to assign roles and I think that's what others have been doing as well.

The only way I can see really getting around the name is creating dummy accounts for the game, using the name you're assigned by the GM (who will be the only person who knows who each person is). I'm not saying I endorse this, and in fact me be out of line by even suggesting it, but it would definitely solve one problem (if not creating another).

Actually I was planning on instigating a rule that if someone is nominated for a lynching based on what happened in previous games or their name, then I'd revoke the accuser's ability for the Night phase.
Though that might be a little too harsh.

I like the dummy account idea, although  I think there would have to be some sort of safeguard in place to prevent people from commenting in other threads from their dummy account, and to prevent people from commenting in thread from their real account.

Would it be possible to make all threads in one account subject to a neutral mod's approval? it might make the flow of the game a little weird though.

Actually something that could be done could be assign character roles to everyone at the start of the game, as well as their game roles.
For example, Unicorn could be "Blacksmith" and still be a villager, while TRVA123 could be "Woodsman" but also serve as a killer. So for that particular game, they would refer to themselves as the blacksmith and the woodsman.
Certainly a lot less trouble than setting up dummy accounts.

Not really, why would people post using their real accounts? The point of using dummies would be to put aside all prejudices anyone has against you, so they would gain nothing and lose untold amounts by doing so (not to mention they'd be caught instantly).

That's what I was thinking of doing if I do a QC variant of the game... i.e. assign one player to be "Marten", another to be "Faye", etc. Every player would get a character role, and some of them would additionally have game roles.

I would probably forget to switch between dummy and real account, and accidentally post with one or the other in a way that gives my identity away.

EvilDog, that is a fair idea, it would definitely help with roleplaying.

Yeah, but its not exactly fair if people are basing on what happened in a Candy game to use against someone in a Slasher game, now is it?

Callbacks are fine, a little in-joke, but they should never dictate how a game should flow. Each game should be a clean slate.
