Well, one of it's current day usages is to refer to stuff you get at conventions and such that's being handed out by the palletful (allegedly Something We All Get).

Method of Madness:
I'd say that's the old fashioned usage rather than a current day usage (free stuff). And "Something We All Get" is just a backronym, it's just swag, it stands for nothing.

I thought pirates had "booty", and burglars had "swag"? The connection with scooping up free stuff at conventions, conferences etc. is obvious...

Probably connected to the stereotypical burglar's sack, in Australian English a "swag" is a bundle of personal property, as traditionally carried by itinerant workers, and a "swagman" or "swaggie" was a such a person. They are part of our national mythology:

Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled:
"Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me?"

Method of Madness:

Bender with his swag that he acquired from a space pirate. (You know, a pirate...but in SPACE!)

--- Quote from: Westrim on 09 Apr 2013, 19:43 ---Swaggie is from Justin Beiber, which means it's only relevant to teenage girls and their mothers, not muscled up mice. He doesn't even have a sideways cap or pants halfway to his ankles.

--- End quote ---

I mentioned that the current usage of swag is effectively the way you present yourself. I added to that a style of presentation beyond just the clothing or accessories you present yourself with. How you walk and talk and act can be your "swag". You could be wearing nothing and still say "Why'm I wearin' nothin'? S'cuz my swag." Older usages exist in excessive forms. Urban Dictionary has most of them. Google has the rest.

Heh. So we even analyze the guest comics this much. Must've been once hell of a guest strip =P
