d) Clinton thought Marten is okay.

Not necessarily - Claire told Clinton that she didn't think that Marten even knew it happened, and that he didn't do anything weird. And, he's certainly got a glare going on, although I'm not sure if that's at Claire or Marten, or if he was trying to mess with Claire's head, or both Claire and Marten's heads.

Arancaytar:

--- Quote from: Loki on 23 Apr 2013, 04:26 ---Goddammit Clinton. I have been known to be tactless at times, but this...

c) Clinton knows that Marten remembers them

--- End quote ---

How would he know? Marten has only told his friends at CoD, who have no contact with Clinton. Even Claire isn't sure Marten remembers, so Clinton would have to be guessing...

However, Marten's reaction will immediately confirm it for him. Maybe that's the plan.

Loki:

But that's exactly what this sentence tells us. Clinton obviously thinks that Marten remembers the cuddles, despite Claire's assumption he doesn't; otherwise there would be nothing to thank Marten for, because then the reason for not mentioning them would not be chivalry, but simply lack of knowledge.

To reword this: By thanking Marten, Clinton implies that Marten committed an act that is worthy of thanks, which wouldn't be the case in a universe where Marten doesn't remember the night.

Either that or Clinton didn't think that far.

Where I am from, I think the word "bro" was popularized by Barney Stinson.

Fine, maybe "know" was the wrong word to use. He strongly assumes.

--- Quote ---However, Marten's reaction will immediately confirm it for him. Maybe that's the plan.

I don't think he would carry out such a plan if that includes embarrassing his sister like this.

*re-reads*

As I was saying, he would totally carry out such a plan if that includes embarrassing his sister like this.

ankhtahr:
damnit Clinton, first you start building up brother credit, now you go and throw it all away…

Moanerette:
It's been previously established that Clinton is perhaps a little lacking in social skills (disclaimer - so am I, the comment is meant as an observation, not a putdown). So this blurt is very much in-character, I think.
