Where did Emily go?

To her house.
To her parents house.
To the internet!
To a game store.
To a Game Stop.
To a new character, because there aren't enough already.
To Capcom headquarters.
To Marten
To the batmobile.
To the barricades.
To the moon.

What if you need to find the batmobile on the Internet?
Call OnStar.
I actually remember a comic tie in between OnStar and Batman from the late 90s. It's the only Batman comic I've read.

Two every four to six hours, as needed.
That doesn't sound very misandristic.

I watched a commercial where Batman runs low on fuel, calls OnStar, and they do a fly-over with a tanker plane to refuel on the go. I can't imagine his monthly membership fees for this kind of shenanigans...but then again, he is mister rich-boy.

I wonder if, and when Jeph will finish the other open storylines, like Marigold and Dale, or maybe some more Emily stuff. Also I miss Hanners. This comic has too many characters…

I like how Marten managed to work just a little gentle humor into the conversation. I think a little silliness is exactly what Claire needed to help her calm down and realize he really was okay with it..

No-one "follows" Dresden Codak; the blessed few are chosen to glimpse it's arrival through the misty veil, before it departs once more for time untold and lands unknown, and those few are tasked with spreading the word amongst the Seekers.

I like how Amir's plan was to play four measures of 7/4 instead of seven measures of 4/4.

  • What's disease? Where?

Now that it's been brought up again, I'm curious to hear it, especially Hanners' prime-number progression against a straight 7/4. Anyone with, say, GarageBand able to create it? My choir last December performed a short piece alternating 4/4 and 5/4, short enough that it was easier for most of us amateurs to memorize than to count.

When I was in high school marching band, we once had to perform a piece that was alternating 4/4 and 5/4. I ended up counting it as 18/4 so that I wouldn't fall flat on my face due to being confused what foot I was supposed to be on.

I never understood this counting stuff. If asked in music class, while some music was playing, "can you count to three or to four?", I always could count to three or four or any other number no problem.

It's mainly the rhythm, which tone is stressed. With 4/4 every first tone is stressed, every third tone is slightly stressed. It's like "DUM dum Dum dum". A 3/4 rhythm is "DUM dum dum".

Try this one:

This is probably the most clichč Waltz out there, and it's nearly impossible to not hear the "Dum ta ta" rhythm, especially after 02:11 or after 02:55.

No, I just can't hear it. You are right that with this one I can't just count to any number, but the numbers keep changing. One two three four - one two  early on, one two three four five - one two - one two some time later. These are just examples. But no simple repeat of one two three in anywhere in the first half or so. I didn't hear all of it.

The problem with the one I posted is probably that the tempo is changing. Here's another rather well known waltz:

This one is completely in 3/4, with a more or less constant tempo. You can count "One two three" all the time. Try to listen to the basses and the drums. It's "bass drum drum" or sometimes "bass drum drum bass druuuuuum" (where the drum is through two and three).

@pilchard Much of it very obviously goes one two three four five. There is e.g. a long stretch at the beginning. There
are also bits where I can hear no pattern. In the middle there is a stretch that goes one two thre four five - six seven.
Near the end there is a short stretch that indeed goes one two three, but it very soon changes to one two three - four five.

@ankhtahr there are stretches with a very obvious one two three pattern, e.g. at the beginning. There are also stretches with
a one two three pattern in the background (if that is the right term) while the foreground music has no pattern. There are
also stretches, maybe a quarter or a fifth of the work, whith no pattern that I can hear.

What I'm getting from your descriptions is that you have no clear idea what to listen for. It's not the rhythm of the notes that gives you the beat, it's the rhythm of the emphases on tho notes... and they aren't always emphasized in every measure. It sounds like you've never performed any music yourself, at least not in any setting that requires you to follow a conductor. I recommend you learn to play an instrument in an orchestra or brass band, or sing in a choir, or even just take a ballrom dancing class. Anything that requires you to DO something in rhythm with music should work.
