jmucchiello:
Amir, the real answer to Marten taking up all the low end space is to play lead on the bass. "High" notes on a bass are always awesome. Or get a 5-string bass.

Redball:
Would Hanners be comfortable with guys who could see only her bottom? And her back, blonde hair and arms, for that matter.
What's disease: My wife and I spent the summer of 2005 in NYC, near Central Park. We saw "Two Gentlemen of Verona: The Musical" at the Delacorte Theater in the park, the site of Shakespeare in the Park. Music was by Galt McDermot, composer of "Hair" and the production had a strong Puerto Rican accent. Musicians were placed on a platform over the stage, directed by a shapely young woman who faced away from the audience. The New York Times reviewer got it right:

--- Quote ---Actually, the sexiest presence in "Two Gentlemen" can be found above the fray - on the central raised platform, where the onstage band is stationed. There, one Kimberly Grigsby, the show's lithe conductor, presides in a long summery skirt and backless top, undulating like a palm in the wind. She is an irresistible human metronome, channeling the relaxed sensual rhythm that "Two Gentlemen" is really all about.

TinPenguin:
That set-up would not make sense. Plus, I'm sure Hanners would feel a lot safer hidden behind the drum kit than right at the front of the stage with the crowd all behind her...

Loki:

Why not? Please enlighten someone who has never been to a live concert in his life, if you don't count school shows and a small band of classmates that never quite took off.

Neko_Ali:
It wouldn't make sense because Hanners would have her back to the crowd to play the drums, thereby negating the point of putting the drums to the front of the band. Not to mention, with Marten and Amir behind the drum kit, they would be partly eclipsed from the crowd.. which is why the drum kit is put in the back typically, so it doesn't get in the way of the rest of the band.
