Life goals!
« on: 16 May 2013, 09:55 »

List some of your general goals for life, bucket list stuff, where you want to be in five years, etc

1. In no particular time line, I'd like to own a couple mares, preferably mustangs adopted from the BLM.
2. On that same "whenever I can make it happen" I'd like a home with enough space and land to graze said horses
3. On a "Bucket List" time frame I'd like to run the Iditarod Sled Dog Race at least once
4. Visit at least one nation on every continent. (Counting say McMurdo in the American Zone in Antarctica for continent seven)
5. Achieve LEO
6. Successfully hunt a Mountain Lion/Puma.

1. Teach kids art
2. Have a kidlet of my own
3. Own a car and drive it without having a panic attack
4. Own a (fun) house. (Not a funhouse....a fun house.)
5. Go back to Lollapalooza at least once
6. Make some moolah selling my creations
7. Leave the country at least once (should be happening some time this summer!!)
8. Go to and make art at Burning Man
9. Try out for Jeopardy
10. Learn to operate a tattoo machine
11. Pay off my student loans

Ok, I promise to try not to make any more edits.

I want to travel.  With the exception of trips into Canada, I've never left the US.

Europe, Asia, Africa, South America - I don't care.

I know some Russian - that would be interesting.

I want to buy a parrot and teach it enough words so that I can converse with it on a basic level.

I also want to learn how to hypnotise people and myself.

Short-term goals, but those will do for now. ^_^

Remarry another huckleberry friend.
Travel to easy places (not India), meeting Questionables where possible and convenient: Scandinavia, the UK (Barmymoo as the driver?), Ireland, France/Germany/Italy, Japan, and finally, Australia, maybe Colombia and Ecuador, where I have friends and acquaintances. (BTW: Akima, would you have coffee with a Questionable?) I have a lot of AA frequent flyer miles to use up while I still can.
Learn, at last, how to duplicate a childhood Chinese restaurant's combination of shrimp and plum sauce.
Return to woodworking. I have tools unused for 4 years.
Pass calculus. I'll skip the BA in physics I was aiming at when I flunked in 1956.

I may amend this.

That's true for going ANY WHERE. I mean going to big cities in any given nation, London, Paris, Berlin, Moscow, (not New York City, it's dildos and you'll be eaten by rats the size of standard poodles) is something you should totally do too, but getting out into the ACTUAL country is vital to getting more of a feel to any given nation then just what's in the tourist brochures.

Return to woodworking. I have tools unused for 4 years.

What kind of woodworking did you do? If you do start this back up again, I'd love to see photos of some of your work! Makin' stuff is awesome  :-D

NYC is dildos? What?

Lol, this confused me as well. But...I'm also a die hard New Yorker. I want to live in other parts of the country but I'd be sad if NYC was more than 2 hours away from me. So, if by "dildo" GM meant "something that provides never-ending amount of pleasure" then yes, I agree. :-P

Visit lots of other countries, but mainly Germany, Japan, and New Zealand.
Build a hobbit house in New Zealand and live there happily forever.
Get a house with some land so I can have an alpaca, an angora rabbit or two, some pygmy goats, maybe a sheep, so I can basically have my own fiber farm. (Preferably this would take place in New Zealand with my hobbit house.)
Have some childrens, turn them into nerds, and dress them in cosplay. Because cosplay kids are CUTE.
Live a long and wonderful life.

I would have thought that too, but the class is called "amateur extra class," so adding "ham" isn't entirely redundant. The word "amateur" doesn't seem to be in the name of the other categories.

I took flying lessons when I was young, like 12, and I loved it.  I loooove flying; I think I have blabbered about it here before. My career goals at the time included being a pilot.  My flying instructor was a lovely woman, but my ground school instructor was a tool.  One day while looking for a map he thought she had misplaced he said "If God had meant for women to fly, the sky would be pink."  I was the only female in the class (as well as the only person under 25) and the other men all looked at me nervously and the instructor muttered an apology.  But I was embarrassed and hurt.  6 months later my flight instructor moved and I was scheduled to continue my lessons with that man.   I quit instead.  I never told my parents why, but I was not comfortable taking lessons from him.

Quitting is one of the few regrets I have, and so going back and doing it would be more symbolic than anything else.  It is a long term goal though, because who can afford flying lessons :/.

We apparently share the same life goals! Living the UK means that a temporary pilgrimage to NZ is easier than any other country except Australia.
I'm very close to being an editor - I work in the Production department of an academic publishing house - but need to make a career change IN 2013 at some point, probably.
What art-lover doesn't want to write a novel?  :-)

  • Get better at guitar, play with other people again
  • Move out of my goddam parent's house before I'm in my mid 20s
  • Make a sensible career change that pays more than the minimum amount for a recent graduate and actually has a clear career path
  • Most importantly, move in with my girlfriend so that we can actually have a relationship!

I will probably come up with some mad ones sooner or later.

also i don't have goals per se i just have certain paths i am attempting to follow

largely, as of now, paths of creativity and, more importantly, of mindfulness. i don't know what the end goal is to either of these, nor do i think there is one - i'm merely defining the path i'm taking.

but in terms of trying to work on those, my life goals at present are:

  • learn drums (creative)
  • learn piano (creative)
  • get better posture (mindfulness)
  • stop chewing fingernails (mindfulness)

As someone who has done that (well, ocean to ocean anyway) I will tell you it will be a great trip. Heading north out of Vancouver and driving the AL-CAN all the way to Anchorage  is a great one as well.

1. Do something with my hobbies? (Maybe?)
2. Come up with real goals. I've been content with taking things as they coming along, but it does make questions like this (Which are sometimes disturbingly ubiquitous) kinda awkward.

5: Create my own advanced weapons research facility.
6: Finish the mathematical proof for my hypothesis on why time travel paradoxes can't exist.
