Guitars, guitars, guitars
Jotunheim:
Thanks. It's mad overkill in terms of the music that I play with the band I play in right now, but it does leave me more possibilities with how I want to play things. Also, I've found that the deepest string on any extended range sounds a little weakish compared to the others. On my five strings, that string is the B string, which we obviously use quite a lot. On this axe it's the F# string, so it has a sexy sexy sound on the B string, even when tuned lower.
As for the Floyd bridges, both of our guitar players dislike them. We do a fair bit of retuning between songs (We've got tunes in standard, drop D, Drop C and drop A#) and as someone else said, they're a pain for that.

On that note, I honestly hate retuning in the middle of a set. I've only done it once and I'd rather just have a backup in a specific tuning.
Patrick:
yeah, but if their situation's anything like mine, they'd need a bigger vehicle. we have only ever played 1 show where we provided our own bass rig.
Jotunheim:
Nah. I think the guys do have some backup axes, but personally, I prefer just sticking with the bass and retuning if it comes to that.
TheCollyWolly:
What kind of doom-sludge-brown noise would you have to be playing that would require you to get lower than F#? :psyduck: Unless you're playing a bass lick that really needs an open string for diatonics or something. The only time I ever detune my bass in my band is one song that pounds on the low D and then runs up the scale while the note rings out on the low string.
