Just point to where its explained elsewhere - don't want to blargle up the thread more than normal.

--- Quote from: pwhodges on 08 Nov 2010, 14:50 ---My avatar is a call to a routine on my server* that delivers a random image from a list of over 20 250 - so each time you refresh it, it changes, and each person may be seeing a different one at the same time; it is meant to confuse or intrigue, depending on your nature.

* For the technically minded, this is done by the following lines in my Apache config:
RewriteMap AviFile rnd:C:/WebPages/cassland.org/html/images/Avatars/AviList.txt
RewriteRule /images/QCavi.jpg /images/Avatars/${AviFile:QClist}.jpg

--- End quote ---

Actually one line of that is slightly longer now to do a 2-stage look-up, getting round a bug that makes it sometimes return a null result if a line in the avilist.txt file is longer than 1024 characters.  The avis (and some that aren't currently used) can be seen here.

Okay, that's simpler than what I had in mind for it... but I just got a version working using PHP (hopefully it doesn't use too much bandwidth on my site...)  :-D

edit -- if anyone wants all the faces from the current comic, you can find them here.

Redball:
So I need a backside server.

If I had the slightest idea what I was doing (or step-by-step directions), I'd dedicate a little Linksys NSLU2 NAS or a Raspberry Pi  to the task.

Kugai:
I'm happy with Miss Powers.

Redball:
And does Miss Powers serve backsides?
