--- Quote from: Emperor Norton on 16 Sep 2013, 15:09 ---. So yeah, just be sure you never want to try to get an office job if you are going to do some of the crazier gauges or tattoos on the hands/neck/face.
--- End quote ---
False, I have plenty of ink, I hold an office job with a highly respectable international business. Our president commented on my shoulder piece last time he was in country. He thought it looked cool and wanted to know what the text meant.
--- End quote ---
1. There are always exceptions. While its getting laxer, it does have a strong possibility of affecting your chances of employment.
2. Shoulder piece doesn't sound like its on your neck/hands/face. (possibly on your neck I suppose if its rather large.)
Welu:
I think part of the reason you've been called out even though there have been some vile opinions, is you're the only one who actually told people what they should not do with their own body. It was closely phrased that way, at least.
While no one has directly said this is the case, rather than the point being, "Don't get tattoos because you'll be judged on then and possibly discriminated against in the workplace." should it not be, "Don't judge people on their appearance."? Not getting modifications will not make people more tolerant of them.

Whether you or I judge anyone based on their appearance won't change the policies of a corporation, it won't change the people interviewing you. Maybe if enough people did it throughout the world to the point that they had no choice, it could change, but I'm not putting myself on the front line of that, and people should really think about whether they want to be. Maybe I worded it badly, but what I was saying was "This is why I won't get a tattoo in certain areas, and its a good idea to be aware of this issue."
I know what its like to be unemployed and have a family. Its hard enough and scary enough as it is.
Its not hippie land. If I get a tattoo on my face and believe in not judging people based on their appearance, that doesn't stop anyone else from judging me for it.
If people really find "beware of prejudice, it exists", to be more offensive than people espousing how people are ruining their bodies I'm not even sure how to react to that.

Everyone else had already been called out. Also I wasn't really calling you out specifically, just the line of reasoning. I apologize if that came out as a direct attack.
Me telling you it's condescending is not me saying it's more offensive than anyone saying that it's incredibly stupid to do such a thing to your body. I called it out because whether you like it or not, it's a bit of 'advice' that has issues depending on the source and the person's understanding of the community. The fact that you weren't hateful does not cause all problems with it to go away.

I'm thinking this story arc would have been more interesting if Hanners had gone with Claire instead of Marten.
