He's got a PHP script on his site that selects a random image to return when someone accesses http://cassland.org/images/QCavi.jpg . I don't think the ability to link the avatar directly to an external URL is allowed for normal forum users, though.

My avatar is a call to a routine on my server* that delivers a random image from a list of over 20 250 - so each time you refresh it, it changes, and each person may be seeing a different one at the same time; it is meant to confuse or intrigue, depending on your nature.

* For the technically minded, this is done by the following lines in my Apache config:
RewriteMap AviFile rnd:C:/WebPages/cassland.org/html/images/Avatars/AviList.txt
RewriteRule /images/QCavi.jpg /images/Avatars/${AviFile:QClist}.jpg

Actually one line of that is slightly longer now to do a 2-stage look-up, getting round a bug that makes it sometimes return a null result if a line in the avilist.txt file is longer than 1024 characters.  The avis (and some that aren't currently used) can be seen here.

Sara was eaten by an allosaur (I suppose it's theoretically possible she somehow survived), wheelchair guy probably got blown up (though Tortura survived, so he might have as well), and Randy was killed by Yelling Bird at least 132 512 times (but Randy is eternal, so that doesn't really count).

On his tumblr Jeph answered one of my questions about whether the cast twitter accounts were canon and he replied that they were, but only to the extent that they don't conflict with the comic itself.

Basically, if tomorrow he decides to make a comic with Sara in it, eating cereal or something, the comic takes precedence and complaining that he's retconning her is bad form.

Jeph's been very good not to have had to do any retconning - of course I may have different expectations from all those years of reading Marvel comics.
