I grew up in a town where our town walls date back to the 12th century (second oldest example in the country), even the town itself dates back to around the 9th century when the Vikings wanted a base they could launch raids up the river. So hearing Americans and Australians sounding so amazed that their homes date back to the 18th century always makes me chuckle a little.

I think it has more to do with the fact that 100 year old wood, unless you live in a very humid area, is going to be very very dry. I didn't take it as a statement of it being historical as much as "This entire building would turn into a blaze in seconds".
