Yes.

They have common interests and seem to OK with each other as people, but Momo's observations are funny.

I would think Marten would have the experience to say that mutual attraction doesn't necessarily mean they're going to bang...

Well, knowing Dale's past record of banging and assuming Marigold's... It will probably be awkward if they do.

I'm going to assume Dale watches regular porn. So it would be Marigold asking about the tentacles.

I have to say, I've been enjoying the comic more in the past couple of weeks than I have in a while.  Top notch QC humor and the plot certainly got quite interesting all of the sudden.

I really don't see what Momo and Marten are doing as shipping though. Shipping is talking about romantically connecting two characters that aren't connected in the story. Or people and real life, though I don't see that as often. Momo is an active participant trying to get Marigold and Dale to hook up. Marten is just commenting on the obvious attraction between the two of them. Now someone coming along and saying that Marten and Swen would be perfect for each other and should totally hook up... That would be shipping. Even Marten/Claire is borderline, because of the somewhat mixed signals from the wedding party.

Marten certainly seems pleased about the prospect of Dale and Marigold hooking up. "Hooray! Everyone's banging someone except me!"

By the way, did you see Jeph's rather hilarious sequence of tweets about some angry shipper e-mailing him complaining that he went with Marigold+Dale instead of Marigold/Hannelore? Classic.

I was trying to refer to a comic I couldn't find before where Faye ogles Marten's behind (and they of course later don't hook up). Finally found it.

Ship is short for relationship, so I think the definition is considerably broader- pretty much any speculation about character (or real people) interactions is shipping. Which is why I personally am pretty tolerant about it, and kind of shake my head once people freak out if shippers even hint at sexuality, or authors act shocked- shocked! - that fans may be enthusiastic about relationships they didn't intend or are unlikely. Like the aforementioned Hannergold thing.

As to Dale and Marigold and their pornographic predilections,  I expect that both will be aware, but not experienced, with any such material based on their treatment to date. Read; both will have inexplicably completely avoided explicit porn of any type for the sake of Comedy.

We should see the standard QC 'Bedroom Comic' from Dale and Marigold by Christmas day.  ;D

Going back to what was being talked about earlier, I turn my Computer off every night or, as the case may be, for any extended period I have to leave the house for any reason (and by that, I mean more than the 10-20 minutes it may take me to go to the shop/local Supermarket/takeaway for anything I might need).  Otherwise, I leave it running when I turn it on.  I've also got it set to go to Standby Mode after that period of time anyway.

New comic!

I have to say I certainly would have figured that Dale's a virgin. When you see a guy get that nervous and flustered about even talking to a girl he likes, it's a fairly safe bet he has no experience.

Once upon a time, someone said that their headvoice for Dale was Wilt (tall red dude) from Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends and now it's my headvoice for him too. It seems to suit him somehow.

As for tonight's comic... hmm. I can't say I didn't expect that. Seems like Faye and Dora are going to roll up their sleeves and give him some advice next week. I'm kind of hoping they suggest a group date to diffuse the awkwardness; not only does that tend to help in a real life situation, I usually enjoy it when Jeph has the cast do a get-together and we see all the different personalities interacting.

Eh, friends are sometimes shitty to each other in a minor way, wittingly or no. You send the signal and they stop.
The line into jerkass territory is crossed when the signal is sent (or the awkwardness becomes obvious) and they DON'T stop.
The line is closer and easier to cross when the potential jerkasses are supervisory.
So I will withhold my judgment until at least Monday.

I think she screwed up unintentionally though. She mistook what Marigold was dancing about in the apartment, and she knows he is modest and shy so she wouldn't believe him the first time.

So Dale is strong enough (and trusting enough) to be honest about his inexperience. Now let's see if Faye and Dora deserve that trust.

Me too; then again, I'm pretty much open about everything about me, which I've been told makes some people uncomfortable, but other people have personally notified me that they think my behavior is awesome, so I'm not sure what to think.

Regardless, to stay on topic, I didn't read anything into Dale's admission beyond mild annoyance that he is in the condition in question.

So was I (note: when someone asked, which really wasn't that often), although I was also a little insulted whenever someone outright assumed it. It was never something I was ashamed of, but I knew it was something people thought I would be, so it was hard not to think of it as them thinking less of me if they could tell without asking.

God damn red text, I just noticed this didn't post an hour and a half ago :psyduck:

And then there's the whole question of why male virginity is something anybody should be embarrassed about, or even be of note. Except of course for, y'know, sexism.

Heh - beat me to it...  But is male pride (or embarrassment) acceptable if female pride is given equal status?  (On reflection the answer might belong in the Sexism thread in Discuss!, please.)

It is discrimination, but I don't think it counts as sexism specifically.  As far as I know (which is admittedly not a lot here), there are no appreciable differences between the various cases if you "pattern match" on sex alone.  To take the analogy further, in our current society, sex seems to be an irrelevant field of the input record describing a person for the function producing the result under consideration; in other words, if everyone lost all sex differences, the result of the function would not change.

You must live in another "current society", and indeed another universe, from the one I inhabit. Frankly such a statement strikes me as grotesquely false.

That is entirely possible; after all, culture and society vary wildly, even over relatively short distances.   :)
