Honestly, I was kind of tempted to say something along the lines of "Suck it, Jens" since I know how he feels about hipster jokes. But it was just too perfect of a setup for me to pass it up.

This is important, because he survived due to the fact that the bullet passed through the folded, lengthy speech in his breast pocket. Yeah. And he decided to make the speech because he knew from his experience hunting just about every animal on the face of the earth that if he wasn't coughing blood, it hadn't gotten to his lung, so why worry?

He's also the guy that created the national parks, and pushed for ethical hunting laws after having seen the bison hunted nearly to extinction. And then in his late 50s he goes and explores a previously uncharted (by white people) river in South America.

Basically, Roosevelt would kick just about any president's ass at anything. Including ass-kicking, seeing as he was an avid boxer and a brown belt in Judo.
