Nope, you can't ruin your MP3s by playing them with a sewing needle attached to a piece of cardboard. :-P
It's better to use a paper cone with the tip reinforced with a couple layers of tape; it won't damage the record.

By the way, if you have any suggestions or comments, let me know because it is still a work in progress. Do you know the craziest thing is that I googled it and it didn't exist yet? I decided something must be done. Sort of a Rule 35, etc.
