I think my main issue with them is not the fact that the tongue is split. It's that when she moves them like that, this is imagery I get in my head:

There are now three people with dynamic GIFs as avatars which have not been sized down to fit the space, and hence are 2MB each in size. I often find myself waiting for a page to appear because one of these large avatars is on a somewhat slow server which specifies a short caching period (and hence frequent re-downloads).

Teach me how to resize gifs while retaining the animation and I'll fix it.
