Re: POINTLESS THREAD IIb: ESCAPE FROM RAPTOR MOUNTAIN
ZJGent:
I don't understand that comics comic... at all. It seems like it is just thinly veiled sexism, the veil here being a self-observing gloss consisting of arch, snide comments over whose favourite character is best. The lady who runs Forbidden Planet in Bristol, and who is what can only be described as a giga-encyclopaedic font of comic book knowledge, is (strangely enough) a lady. I imagine she would have some very apt, curt words to insert here, but that is her remit, not mine.
Rizzo:
My normally very ineloquent friend said today "Describing them (gamers) as female is defining the term gamer as solely masculine, a pretentious and incorrect term as there are many gamers that are already a female, or both." The same thing certainly applies to "geek girls". You can be a geek and a girl without the preface, games and geek culture are not solely masculine.
jhocking:
The issue is really the other way around. That sort of terminology implies that "girl" is a monoculture, and all girls are basically interchangeable.

My impression of it in a nutshell:
"Women just don't understand the intricacies of the pre-Crisis DC Universe the way we true comics fans do, am I right guys? "

an alternate take might be: "everything i know about females comes second-hand"
