Some long-lost pictures from last summer just got posted online. In late August about a dozen of us took a road trip to Bayville, Long Island, built a fire on the beach, got stoned, cracked some 4Lokos, decided to go skinny dipping. We didn't want to leave behind our 4Lokos so we took them into the ocean and got wasted as we frolicked in the nude. It was an awesome end to an awesome summer.

They are (afaik) screwed into the bones of my spine. The operation consisted of taking bone chips from my ribs and using them to fuse my spine (well, most of it) in place so that the curves didn't go back to how they were after the doctors straightened it as much as they could. The metal rods were then screwed in place to hold everything there until the bones fused. Apparently after the first year after the operation the rods aren't needed any more; their purpose has been fulfilled and the spine isn't going anywhere anyway. The operation was about 8 hours, I think, and pretty damn invasive, so they don't take the rods out unless there are issues with them, like them breaking. Hopefully that never happens to me. I haven't set off any metal detectors yet (unfortunately), and I don't feel the screws when I go about my business but down the bottom of the fused part there isn't much padding over the whole deal so I can feel either the bottom screws or the bottom of the rods themselves.

This is why getting a tattoo is going to hurt like a motherfucker.

@Harry - The photo quality is quite crap. I look like I have a spray-on fake orange tan. I've no idea why the colours are so bad (other than I guess that's how license photos are supposed to be...)

Hey, at least you still get to smile in your license photos. I got mine renewed and I had to take my glasses off and not smile; I look pretty different without glasses (and I very rarely have contact lenses in), so it doesn't really look like me. Pretty silly!

I actually had the choice to leave my glasses on last time, whereas the time before that I was told I had to take them off. Last time, however, I did have to brush my fringe off my forehead and yeah, not smile. So silly.
I think it's funny that you guys have to have your height and weight and eye colour on there, although I suppose it does help with people borrowing their sister's ID etc.

I had to get a Working With Children card (basically a police check) when I started volunteering with the Sudanese kids and like every other ID card these days it's biometric so I wasn't allowed to smile in the photo. Which naturally makes me look like the dodgiest guy in the world and pretty much the last person on earth anyone would actually trust to work with children.

EU driving licences are pink. The photo used to be coloured, but is now b/w as it is etched into the card as an anti-forgery thing:
