huge, goggle-like bright blue glasses.

(within reason)

See I put that there because I knew some silly cunt was gonna put some ridiculous example. If you wear clown glasses you are a clown but Wayfarers are not too big, Andy's frames are not too big, they are just bigger than some glasses that are smaller than them

I'd like to make a distinction between thick frames and big goofy ass oversized frames. I have thick plastic black frames. But the glasses as a whole are scaled down a notch so they don't fit my face much different than normal frames would. Likewise Andy's frames are oversized but at least they're not those crime against nature glasses where the frames are so huge that the bottoms are nearly in line with their nostrils.

One of the key things to choosing glasses is after all that they're not supposed to touch your cheek. Its supposed to be the way that if you smile, your cheeks will still not touch your glasses.
Mine looks a bit big on me, because I have a small, round head, but uh... too new here so I won't post pic :)

Anyway, yes, about the purse. I usually just go with a simple black purse, about clutch size but its round. I really don't like the look of strapped clutches, specially not for us girls with a little meat on the bone. Why do you need such thick straps though? Thin straps works well as long as its the correct type of material and the purse falls down to your side on a flattering height. Consider buying one that doesn't necessarily go right under your arm, but perhaps one that you can have hanging over your shoulder from one side to another.
Also its easier to take care of that way when you've had one too many glasses of champagne  :-D

I didn't know that was a rule! It's a good rule.

I like thick straps because I think bigger girls (in general here) look silly with super thin straps on anything. I was considering the cross-body length, but it breaks up my body line all weird. I do think one that sits a little lower is better.. I can't stand the feeling of a purse in my armpit.

Also: Those peacock heels are awesome. I'd like them more if they were a darker color, but I'd wear them as is too.

Yeah the peacock heels are rad.

I have a problem: I'm unemployed (and therefore totally broke) and have no clothes that I could wear to a job interview (and therefore unable to get a job). It vicious cycle but there is a way out and that way out is my mother's credit card. So I need to find nice clothes for not too much money on the internet so I can get her to pay for them. She is fine with this because she's pretty great. So I need to find online stores with clothes and reliable sizing and prices that are pretty alright, preferably in Australia but that's not the most important thing in the world. Specifically I need shoes, I think. I don't 'get' men's shoes.

Hey is it okay to just wear t-shirts and shorts and cheap tennis shoes all the time?  I've been wearing the same stuff since middle school (hit the peak of my growth spurt early and hey i'm not gonna buy new clothes if i already have some), but I'm about to graduate from college so most of the stuff is pretty old and worn out (not completely stained and ripped.. just a little stained and ripped) so I might need to buy some new stuff soon... Anyways I might as well get something a little snaz.  Dunno what though!

ps: not literally everything i have is from middle school, my mom does send me random articles she finds on sale now and then

Fashion thread, I need your help.

It's getting cold out and I've just realized that I'm extraordinarily under-prepared for the winter. I own no sweaters and just two hoodies, both of which shrunk in the wash at some point and are too small to zip up comfortably.

My problem is, everything is printed on American Apparel hoodies. And I fucking hate them. I have no political or family-value related reasons for this; Dov Charney can jerk it wherever he wants. They're just too thin, shrink in the wash (so that medium, which fits perfectly when it arrives, becomes too small, and large, which is too big, remains just a little too big still), come apart at the seams, and the drawstring hoods are undersized for my head and just end up making me look weird and fucking up my hair. I want a slightly thicker (but not bulletproof; I like keeping a slim profile and hate the bulky cabbage feeling of multiple layers), warmer, comfortable live-in hoodie or two for this winter. Preferably with some cool designs (a la Threadless, who regrettably print on AA). I know they exist somewhere out there. Ideas?

Wal-Mart and Target have a surprising number of decent hoodies, with sort of cool designs. You won't get anything that fantastic, but some aren't bad. Last year I got a gray pullover hoodie with black cassettes all over it, and I love it. I just never put it in the dryer - that ruins the comfortable fuzz on the inside.

Also Hot Topic sometimes has decent ones, but wait for one of their sales because they're overly expensive. Same with Spencer's, I'd think.

Lastly, try H&M. You can definitely find a slim-fit style there.

I don't like the AA fit either, but the problem I find is that "similar to threadless but not AA" usually translates out to "Japanese and crazy expensive," so I just kinda gave up on buying fancy hoodies. At least from online vendors, anyway. There's other stuff out there but there's not much you can do to find it other than just get into some stores.

It's annoying, but AA fits me the best. I've always gotten their hoodies second hand so they were probably all shrunk already?

Thrifting is probably your best bet for thicker hoodies because thinner hoodies are kinda what's popular in buy-new shops right now. There's a place here called dtox that has nice thick, plain coloured hoodies but I don't think america has em

You think that hating on Dov Charney is a political or family-value based decision?  I hope I'm mis-interpreting that, from what I've read he'd prob have been banned from trading already over here what with all the sexual harrassment suits brought against him.

Also, I am currently in the same boat re: being stuck in a no-man's land between M and L.  These days I tend toward L because I'm gettin' older and putting on some weight, but Ms have always fit me really well and depending on the make I swim in Ls.  The problem is even worse in pants.  Depending on the make/cut I am too big for a 34 but 36s are way too large and I don't feel like I want to pay for tailoring on pants that are $50 or something.

To clear up:

Firstly, I don't think it's my place to judge the legitimacy of allegations brought upon anyone based on "news" articles. Dov Charney is a sleazy looking dude who lives in a sleazy city and undoubtedly deals with thousands of sleazy women. He is wealthy and his company has been hot shit for the past few years. Online media outlets have plenty of motive to play up sexual harassment stories. Since everything is alleged, after all, and it's unlikely that the accuser will come to the defense of the accused regarding the extent of the allegations, they can be as sensational and alarmist as they want without risking a libel suit. The possibility that he is a disgusting creep is no more or less likely than the possibility that he's an awkward douche who's getting fucked by scores of bitter models for his money.

Secondly, I couldn't care less who runs the company. Although their hoodies suck, they make great T-shirts and underwear. If Dov Charney is a molester, he would likely be a molester whether or not he was profiting from the comfort of my junk.

I would regard not buying things (extremely) indirectly from an alleged sex criminal as a question of personal politics.

Just the thing with the lady from Jane magazine that I read a while back would be enough over here.  Over here if you tried running a company calling your female employees sluts & cunts and masturbating in front of them you'd probably actually go to jail.  Unless the lady from that mag is straight lying through her teeth then it's pretty clear-cut.

To be clear, if he was doing this shit among friends or equals then I wouldn't care less.  But doing it from a position of power over the people that he does it to is breaking a handful of laws (at least here) and I'm amazed that he isn't in jail.

Andy, not only is that blatantly not what I said but I went to great pains to make sure that it couldn't be inferred. Lame move to pull.

tl;dr I don't have an opinion and I don't care to, I just want some hoodies. This horse has been beaten stupid dead and no-one has any more to say on the issue than they did last time. I don't distrust women who accuse rich guys of sexual abuse, but I distrust the media when they report on it because both rich, powerful men and sexual abuse are inherently slippery topics which attract readers.

My solution to the AA is skeevy and doesn't fit me anyway problem was to buy a green zip up hanes hoodie that at least fits me across the shoulders nice even if the rest of it seems designed for fat people. Of course, now that I think about it, it was probably made by some dude in El Salvador getting paid in centavos. The moral as always is that the universe sucks and pretty much all of us need to try harder.

H&M hoodies shrink like no other, especially the zip-up's. I tend to go a size up in buying for that fact alone.

Edits:  This is actually probably fodder for about three different threads.  Two of which are the blog and the not sober thread.

Anyway, my wife had an art show today, made a killing, and went out to dinner with her family.  Meanwhile, I stayed home with some Citadel gin and ebay.  I am now the proud owner of a Tag Heuer watch, a Brooks Brothers suit, and a Brooks Brothers sport coat.  There are still two more suits I could get out bid on, but I'm tall and barrel chested, so a less-than-common size.   Maybe, maybe not.

Ebaying for used high end fashion when drunk.  Good idea?  Y/N?

Great.  As long as someone has validated my decision making as 'good', I feel neither guilt nor remorse.

Looking forward to the trip to the tailor for the fitting!

I am still sad, but at least I will be pretty and sad!

Don't worry, Katie. I only understand about 58% of what Sam says.

I always bust on Sam about that, Anna. It's in good spirits.

To be fair I could make a reasonable assumption about what "techy" means, but on the other hand I could be about as wrong as wrong can be about that. It's not the most common parlance.

Yeah all I'm coming up with for "techy" is something along the lines of snowboard gear, but since it's Sam I'm probably dead wrong.

Actually if it's the same jacket Sam showed me a couple of days ago in Gabbly, it's not something I'd personally describe as techy at all. But as previously stated, what the fuck do I know?
