Um, I was not giving him shit for his choice of words but rather wondering what sorts of clothing items could be techy, since he didn't mean this or this or this.

I still have no clue what exactly techy means, but it seems like that would be a "techy" jacket.

(Also, pretty rad!)

Also, I recently become obsessed with Chictopia. Looking at it wastes so much time at work. My friend has a really good fashion blog and posts pictures on there was well so she got me into it. I highly recommend it for ladies that like to be inspired fashion-wise.

Dear forum of people whose opinions I trust,
I am picking out a suit for my wedding, and just a nice suit in general, and I really like this one: http://www.menswearhouse.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay_10051_10558_10601_166957_-1_10558_BROWN%20PLAID_10051_?cm_vc=40159

This is a two separate question post:
1. What color shirt should I wear with it?  I kind of think a blue shirt would look nice, but then I also need a tie.
2.  On another forum I frequent there was concern voiced that A) The suit was informal and a bad choice for the wedding, a matter than I'm not worried about since it isn't a strictly formal wedding. And B) that it may "wash me out"

I also need dress shoes for this, and was thinking brown with a square toe.  I already have a navy suit, so I want one that isn't the basic navy/black/charcoal and one that in my opinion more fits my style.  As an added bonus I'll add pictures of my suit and of just me now so you can make a judgement based on that.

Far right

Not sure you can even figure it out past the mustache.  Maybe I'll change this later.

Yeah, that's a good casual suit but even if it's an informal wedding, if you're gonna wear a suit at all you wanna be dressed to the fucking nines.

Frankly, I don't get the idea of a suit on the groom at all. Either go all out with a tux or put your own fashion spin on it but a suit is just so.. everyday for a day in your life that's only supposed to happen once.

If you get a suit, make sure to wear the pants like you are supposed to. It goes below your bellybutton, not on your hips. That's why there was that stacking at your ankles.

I can't really afford to be dressed to the nines honestly, and I know that suit was ill fitted, I kind of got it last minute.

Are there any suits that you suggest considering I like the idea of a brown suit quite a bit and it will be mostly for going to restaurants that require that/other peoples weddings?

Also part of the thing for a suit for the wedding for me is that I've been needing a suit that I'm happy to wear out and look somewhat like an adult and the wedding is a good excuse to buy one.

I think it's your wedding and you can wear whatever the hell you want.
Get your fiancée to help!

However I do agree that the suit you linked is a little too pale, with your fair hair it might, as you said, wash you out. I think you'd look really good in really dark navy but if you've already got one... tricky. Perhaps charcoal?
Also, if you add pinstripes be warned that it will automatically make your suit look less formal.

As for shirt colour, I think if you're gong for a black or blue suit a really dark coloured shirt looks excellent. If you're going brown definitely do a crisp white or really pale blue.

When you're looking at ties, make sure you get one that both goes with your shirt/suit AND with the girls' bridal colours.

Man, dressing guys formally is difficult! So glad I just have to put a dress on.

Absolutely nothing wrong with renting a suit for the wedding. You'll get something nicer and more formal for less.

Hey, I like the suit.  Men's warehouse has made more money off of me than I care to admit.    I agree though that it's not a "wedding" suit if you're going to be the guy standing up front next to the lady everyone is looking at.  Those wedding photos are going to be around for a looooooong time.

My two cents: Dark suit, not black.  Black is too stark.  I know you said no navy or charcoal, but I think it's the right suit for what you're going to do. Pin stripes are ok, but don't get the big fat chalk lines.  They make you look like a pimp.   The suit you're wearing in the photo is edging toward that.  I've recently become a big fan of the subtle plaids/window pane patterns.  There are lots of other subtle patterns out there too.  They're nice  Then, dress it up on the cheap.  Get a spread or a semi-spread collar and put on a good tie with a windsor knot instead of that four-in-hand knot in the picture.  Wear a pocket square.   Make sure your tie is about the same width as your lapels.

For shoes I'm all over some cap-toed lace-up oxfords.  It's a wedding for goodness sake.  Square toed and brown doesn't really tell me enough to say if that's a good suit idea or not.  Especially if they're light with a wide square toe, they'll look dumb if you follow my advice on the dark suit.   I know this because I recently spent all day looking at my coworkers thinking how dorky he looked for doing exactly that, while at the same time cringing because I had a pair of shoes that looked almost identical that I loved.   I haven't worn them to work since.

Shirt: go with white or blue.   Again I caution about the longevity of wedding photos.  How many dudes that are in their 50s today are cringing at having to look at the photos of the blue ruffle tux they chose to wear in '79?   All of them, that's how many.  I love wearing colored shirts with suits, but I don't do it if I have something really formal to go to.   Get something classic, get french cuffs, wear non-novelty cuff links.    If you actually walk into men's warehouse to buy your suit, they'll lay out a bunch of different shirt and tie combos under the jacket to show you how they look.   Buy the tie and the socks, don't buy the shirt. You can get that somewhere else because it will be about $80.

Final piece of advice (damn, I'm verbose for having not even had coffee yet...)  If you know your measurements, look on ebay.  I just picked up an amazing Brooks Brothers suit for $100.  That's about 10% of what it cost when it walked out of the store.

I do think that matching it to the bridal party's colors is important, at least to some degree. Also, a charcoal suit is something you can wear anywhere from a funeral to a wedding to a formal work meeting. It will match with any color (though brown does that too, I just think charcoal looks better), and go with all sorts of different shoes.

Personally, I like the look of a charcoal suit, black shirt, and bright tie, with black shoes. I realize that's kind of dark though.

If you get a brown suit, you should look for a darker brown. Maybe like these:

http://www.menswearhouse.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay_10051_10558_10601_249226_-1_10558_BROWN%20MULTISTRIPE_10051_?cm_vc=40159
http://www.menswearhouse.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay_10051_10558_10601_168081_-1_10558_BROWN_10051_?cm_vc=40159

With light hair and pale skin you definitely don't want a lighter brown suit. I agree with the pocket square, it's an easy way to add style and color.

Also, see if you can find info on What Not To Wear's tips on buying suits. They tell you how to pick out the right fit and shape for your body. It's a little old, as they haven't had men on their show in forever, but it's still very relevant.

If you like the idea of a brown suit, go for more of a chocolate brown. It won't wash you out and it'd look really nice with a light blue shirt and/or a white/cream one. Actually, really, if you get the right brown, it can go with any color and you could match your bride's colors if you want! And if you get shoes, I don't really know if brown would be too matchy or if you should go with black. I am not up on men's dress shoes other than that oxfords look nice.

But really, it's your wedding. If this is a suit you're going to want to wear elsewhere, then just make sure it's a suit you like. Go shopping with your fiance and some guy friends and they can help you out.

Also make sure to get the trousers hemmed, because the ones in your photo are too long. For timelessness, suit trousers should not have more than two breaks* below the knee. Jeans are a different story, because they are not the same thing.

How about some old docs?   Though not the first pair of docs I owned, this is the oldest I still have.   I bought these at Boy London in Köln in '87 or '88.   I saved them --and have been intending to have them bronzed for book ends actually-- because shortly after the Berlin wall came in '89, I climbed over it in this pair of boots.  Very sentimental to me.

I like the third one best, but that's because I'm a sucker for three piece suits. The style of the first suit is nice, but I don't really like the lighter grey. It looks really great in the darker colors, though.

So I bought a pair of leggings today.  I am way behind the trend I know, this is my first ever pair of leggings.  I don't even think I had any when I was little.  I need new ways to cover my lower half at work though and I own a few long sweaters so leggings seemed like a good solution.  I found a pair for 5 dollars and they are super comfey.  My question is how tight should they be?  They are not baggy by any means, but they seem a little loose, around the knees particularly.  Is that normal, or should I go down a size?

Where have you been?

Quote from: Wikipedia
In 2005, leggings made a "comeback" into high fashion, particularly in indie culture, with capri-length leggings being worn with mini skirts and dresses. Consequently, leggings are also now popular to wear with oversized, long sweaters, denim mini skirt, plaid skirts, short dresses and even with short shorts. Ballet flats and Converse Chucks are common footwear with leggings. This trend towards tight pants can alternately be seen in the resurgence of skinny jeans.

Yeah, they've been a thing for a while now. I don't understand the whole shorts + leggins fad, though, and I probably never will.

Kat, they are supposed to hug your entire leg, so if they're baggy on your knees, maybe you should get a size smaller. Unless shrinking them in the wash is possible? That could be tricky, though.

I was not a fan of leggings and then I bought a top too long for pants and too short to be a dress and leggings were the solution and I have never looked back.
