You still haven't said whether any of that $100 goes towards being able to put something bigger than a quarter in your pocket.

and such as a western style shirt with pearl snaps (black)

Fashion thread, I am now Johnny Cash. This is Good Thing.

Also I came really close to buying a pair of brown Levis cords, but they didn't have them in my size. Fashion thread how do we feel about brown cords?

It usually doesn't. It's easy to put big pockets on pants that are two big rectangles stitched together. When I was a kid I wore baggy pants with pockets big enough to fit my CD player in. Now I wear skinny pants and all I want to carry in my pockets are a pen, my phone and my keys. Which, Wait! is all I really need to carry in my pockets anyway.

i ain't putting anything in my jeans, that is what bags are for! jeans are for making my hiney look spectacular. the pockets are so that i can put my thumbs in them and pose while loitering.

There's still a pretty huge difference between even, say, levi 510 pockets and girl jean pockets, even if you get wider girl jeans. If you were to stick your hands into girl jean pockets, your fingers would touch bottom before your palm got into the pocket, even if you have small hands. It's not a matter of not being able to make bigger pockets, it's a question of the entire woman's clothing industry being allergic to making functional pockets because they make you look "bulky".

edit: Tania, I know several women that would disagree with you. Bags you have to carry around all the time, pockets are inherently superior.

also you're missing the fact that women wear a bunch of other clothes that men don't which don't have pockets because it would pretty much be the dumbest and tackiest thing (skirts, dresses, leggings, etc), which leads to most women becoming pretty accustomed to keeping their things in bags and therefore there isn't really a need for women's jeans to have functional pockets anyway since no one would remember to use them. it's really not as weird as you think

Fuck you guys I hate toes on shoes that aren't kind of flat. I have really narrow feet and thin legs and wearing skinnier pants (I don't mean jeans, but also slacks) with clunky round toed shoes makes me look like I am an 18 year old who had to buy dress shoes for his dad's wedding and so he bought a pair of $60 sketchers dress shoes in Omaha because they were the cheapest nice looking shoe at the store and I've had them for like 3 years because fuck if I ever wore dress shoes.

Also, mostly they would be worn while wandering around inside a bank, looking like I'm being useful.

Basically, I'm back to needing some black leather boots. Hopefully some that I can get some arch support into since I have a fucked up tendon in my right ankle.

That goes without saying of course. I don't know what you do to your jeans to wear them down so fast, I still have hand me downs from my brother in law that are at least 3 years old.

i don't "do" anything to my jeans, they just stretch and wear out faster because i have curvier proportions than most women and that will happen when clothes don't conform properly to your body. men's jeans aren't as tight as women's and men don't have the same curves so obviously they wouldn't stretch and wear out the same way. quality jeans which are actually fitted for curvier bodies might seem like a silly investment to some but in my experience the right jeans will lead to an IMMENSE improvement in comfort and durability because they are actually built to stretch and hold in all the right places. the extra $50 or $60 or whatever is totally worth it to me. sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

yeah i do not think 6 = 28in, that seems very off. usually, 0s start at around 24 to 25...

It does, actually! In nicer jeans that have the size in inches, I wear a 27, and when it is in stupid american sizing I wear a 2 or a 4. Lunchy is actually about the same size as I am, I think.

I bought two pairs of jeans for $8 probably about 9 months ago. One of those pairs is currently my best pair of jeans, until I outgrow them again.

There are some kinds of clothes worth $200. Suits (those tend to be more like $400+ for tailored suits), leather jackets (maybe, I'd rather get a used one, since a good leather jacket will last for decades), really nice boots. Not jeans. No matter how good they make your ass look. Maybe that's just my grandfather's fiscal responsibility rubbing off on me.

Contents of my handbag on a normal day:
Wallet (large, to fit lots of discount and loyalty cards as well as several credit/debit cards and health care cards)
At least 4 types of lip gloss, lip stain or lipstick
Huge keychain
Glasses case
Sunglasses case
Contact lens solution and spare contact lens case
Several hair elastics, hair clips and hair bands
Box of Advil
Hand mirror
Pen
Notepad
Herbal tonic for stomach upsets
Small umbrella
Cardigan
Any shopping I've done that day
Face powder, blush and eyeliner on days when I'm going out after work

And there's still room for my boyfriend's crap.

Dudes. I have the hardest time buying shoes and it really fucking sucks. See, I have huge feet, size 13.5 US and wide too. I find almost every brand too narrow and I don't have the patience to properly break shoes in.
And my right foot is slightly smaller than my left so all my left shoes fit perfectly and all the right one rub badly and suck shit in hell...

HOW CAN I SOLVE MY SHOE WOES?

I have dresses with pockets! They are superuseful! But granted they are only just big enough to put a single tissue in, which is all I need my pockets to do. I always have to carry tissues because I am allergic to something that might be cats or might be woodsmoke or might be some kind of pollen but whatever it is, it is everywhere at home.

Personally I wouldn't want anything bulky in my jeans pockets, like a phone or anything, because it digs into my hips uncomfortably. Nodaisho, you have to remember that men and women have different shaped hips, so different hip-covering requirements, and that's generally where the pockets go.

I generally want to keep my phone in my pocket, because if I put it in my bag I never hear it and if it is in my pocket I will at least hopefully feel it vibrate when someone is calling me. This does not always work. I have now taken to putting it in my back pocket because if I put it in my front pockets it digs into my hips and looks funny. I used to get annoyed at girl pants having tiny pockets, but i guess at some point I got over it and just dealt with having to take a bag everywhere? I generally take a book to read or something to draw on in case I get bored, so it works out well in that respect. Once I find my new (tiny) diary for 2011 to replace the big (albeit awesome) one for 2010 I will have even more room in my bag for stuff!

On a fashion subject, I need new jeans. I also want to start wearing more skirts and dresses. And there is a ring that I am pretty sure I am going to buy on Monday after I get paid (it is a pigeon ring). And I need a new wallet but the one I like is more expensive than I was planning but it is so pretty! All in all I have some fashion-related decisions to make that can partially wait until after Christmas. Hurray.

I have the bigger foot problem, retailers don't sell different sized shoes. If it's that much of a bother wear an extra pair of socks on one foot? If you're feeling risque try putting two different sized shoes in a box in the shop?

Yeah, I am in much the same boat as lunchy when it comes to my handbag. I carry around a surprising amount of stuff on a daily basis and no matter how hard I try to simplify it, it just returns to it's previous levels.

Generally my handbag will contain my keys, wallet (fairly large because I carry a shitload of cards and still manage to have a rather large stack on my desk at home), phone, sunglasses case, bottle of water, hair pins, lip balms, hairbrush, laptop power cable, random other stuff I pick up during the day, a myriad of different kinds of hand creams and antihistamines. If it is winter I will generally have an umbrella or an extra cardigan or something.

On top of all of that there is still room for my boyfriend's things as well if we are out somewhere and he doesn't want to have them in his pockets

I pretty much hate handbag shopping because everything is either too small or too big or doesn't have any organisational pockets or it's the wrong colour or an ugly material. I did buy a rather nice handbag in Japan though, which I am pretty happy with.

Man the only time I ever gave my girlfriend stuff to carry is when I wanted my stuff in a zipped up bag instead of in my pockets, which wasn't very often. Of course my standard loadout is keys wallet and phone, sometimes a knife. All of which I keep minimal(3 keys on my keyring, for example) so I don't mind carrying them.

When I didn't carry a purse, I hated pants with no pockets. But that was when I was in high school, and mostly wore man-pants anyway. Now, I want girl pants to at least have pockets, but I don't care if they're big. I have big hips and I do not need to add any bulk to that area. One thing I really hate, though, is girl pants with no back pockets. Even fake back pockets are okay, but no back pockets make my butt look weird. I have a super curvy ass and need my pants to cater to that before anything else.

So anyway, I like this thing where we list what's in our purses. I have a huge wallet (over 15 cards, cash and change, receipts and coupons), sunglasses in a case, 9x12 medical records binder, keychain full of keys and also a monkey, tin full of various pills, lotion, hand sanitizer, lip balms, some makeup, brush, nail file, mirror, nail clippers, headphones, note pad and pens, and eye drops. For winter I've added a scarf, hat, and gloves. And, yes, there's still room for my boyfriend's crap.

He is the coach for a culinary knowledge bowl team and I went to the competition last year. Everyone had to give up their cell phones when they went to compete, and I don't know what he was going to do, had I not been here. I had 7 cell phones total, along with any other junk they had but didn't want to carry.

I carry a small purse if I have to. I would rather just carry things in my pockets.

I am not a real girl.

Then again, I'm in school, so most of my crap stays in my messenger bag. And when I go out, having a purse is annoying. So yeah. I like purses, I just don't like using them half the time.

Same here. I feel "weird" carrying a purse, but I guess it's just because I never do, so I'm not used to it.

Stuff either goes into the pockets on my pants or my jacket, and if I have to/feel like carrying more than my keys, wallet and cellphone, I just bring my messenger bag, which I am way more comfortable carrying. My wallet mostly stays in my jacket pocket, while my keys go into the pockets of my pants, and my cellphone is in whichever was convenient at the time. It gets annoying with pants that have "fake" pockets, though, because I like to at least be able to fit my keys into them.
